Officially, only 17607 trees have been cut down.

Actually?

Permission was/is there to chop down 112,722 fully grown trees.
But the benevolent authorities, for now, want to cut down only 33,776 trees.

https://ptinews.com/story/national/Over-17-600-trees-felled-for-UPs--kanwar--route-construction--Panel-to-NGT/1971842

The tribunal was hearing a case related to the alleged felling of more than 1 lakh trees and shrubs in the protected forest area across the three forest divisions of Ghaziabad, Meerut and Muzaffarnagar for the proposed route between Muradnagar in Ghaziabad and Purkaji in Muzaffarnagar.

The best option is to plant a tree for every tree you cut down and protect it for the next 10 years.

someone mentioned maintain gardens, from what i have read online the gardens with grass that we see in societies is useless if your aim is to increase green cover

As for oxygen, I do not know if it is an hoax or for real.

But many believe that alga (plural algae/ एक प्रकार की काई) might be shouldering a large majority of the burden of producing oxygen.
(Some algae can survive in sea water too. Most of the surface on earth has water bodies.)

Don't know why we need so many highways .

It takes 30-40 years to grow trees while new treas die because of not getting proper care.

We are making our own land a gas chamber.

on a side note there isnt much a common man can do to save the environment
100 percent efforts should be dedicated to earning as much as you can and provide a good life for your society

with enough money you wont have to face water shortage , can have air filters through out your home , travel in a car at all times, live in a good gated society with lots of green cover, get the best food and medical help and what not

Just because we happen to be at the top of the food chain and (as far as we understand)
one of the longest surviving species (or sub species)
we are pompous enough to give ourselves too much importance.

Maybe not in the same way as most of the dinosaur species got extinct,
but we too are just one "factory reset" away .. for us too.. to bid adieu to the planet.

We (Homo sapiens) feel we are saving the planet, the cosmos, the environment.

Jis din kshan क्षण.. cosmos/planet/environment.. apni waali par aa gaya.. (uss क्षण) humko nipta dega.

Obviously.. (after that) in the future.. some other species might come.. assuming that they are the ones saving the planet or are the ones responsible for it.

Chhattisgarh raises the ante to benevolent UP

"These coal blocks, awarded by the Chhattisgarh government, are managed by the Adani Group under a Mining Development Operation (MDO) agreement. The extracted coal fuels Adani’s power plants, making it a critical resource for energy production.

While mining operations at Parsa East and Kete Basan have proceeded in phases, the felling of trees at the Parsa coal block has sparked fresh tensions. An estimated 96,000 trees are set to be felled in Parsa alone, contributing to a broader deforestation initiative that could see over 2.47 lakh trees removed in the region."

Greater Nicobar says hold my beer and goes All-In

"The Union government’s ambitious ₹72,000-crore Great Nicobar Project may see 9.64 lakh, and not 8.5 lakh, trees felled to enable the construction of a trans-shipment port, an international airport, township development, and a 450 MVA gas and solar-based power plant in the Great Nicobar island"

https://www.thehindu.com/sci-tech/energy-and-en...

Is this the kind of development we need....

There is no hope for this world as long as humans are roaming this planet and continuously talking about "growth metrics"😌

I sometimes think, the need for highways is due to high demand for goods transport or passanger travel?

.

.

If both, then what is the estimated commuters percent every day?

.

.

Why cannot they build mass transport systems that serve the purposes?

.

.

Is it because they want toll and maintain roads with our money and and taxmoney to welfare schemes?

.

.

In india like country mass transport is the key. It saves trees, pollution and noise otherwise.

Dump fossil fuels to great extent.

Rest of discussion is just time pass ir prove their point.

This newbie dragged me here, otherwise i would be myself.

Itna ped! Aur itna harami log bhi hain. Number of hamari log > number of ped. That's the reason of pollution. Bhai ped hote itna , ped naa hote toh bawal ho jata. Fir bhi kuch hain bolengey pollution hi nai hai. Global warming is fake news. Etc
