“He is the Mahatma, a man the world venerates as a prophet of peace. But for Kastur, the child bride who married the boy next door, Mohandas was a sexually-driven, self-righteous, and overbearing husband.”
No I haven’t but didn’t M.K. Gandhi confessed to all these allegations in his autobiography? What’s new to ‘sell’?
cc: @Magus
Yes, he did. He was inspired by the legend of Harishchandra, we all know that.
He had his own shortcomings (human after all) but the masses chose to overlook them amd deify him. Moreover, the figure of Gandhi today is a great deal politicized by both the ruling and the opponent parties to propagate their own ulterior motives. I’m sure he himself would not like to be worshipped like a god or followed like a prophet.
He was overbearing, especially on his wife. That is always the case with self-righteous men. They become intolerant to mediocrity. He miserably failed as a father of four children though he could lead the masses towards the goal of independence. He could not come to terms with his sexuality even in his 60s. But he never played the hypocrite. That’s what makes him a mahatma in my opinion. Tagore was right!

Bought the Kindle version. Just gone through a bit. 400+ pages and author's liberty to "imagine" there was a diary. hmm.. don't know whether I could complete the reading..

thank you friend for taking the time out to clear off some of the smog! indeed it would tend to be coloured by the author’s own ‘vision’ besides the real picture.
hope you get some value (worth) out of your purchase. i was in two minds afters trying to figure out how objective she (the author) had been in her other works.
edit: tsch :-/ i could only pull the rep. up to 990
but really thankful for you taking time off to..

besides the fact that old ‘hooch’ sells in new bottles
when sleaze-balls whose writings aren’t even worth the walls of a public urinal can become regular on the editorial page of TOI
then the daughter of erstwhile owner of TOI definitely can sell whatever yarn she spins.
i stopped short of tagging this gentleman @Magus (mostly out of self inhibition)
my intrigue was mainly escalated because of the timing (2 Oct) and the author being the daughter of the very busy RKD
quite a character he was
yes, busy as hell. did ghapla to acquire TOI
had married six times, had eighteen children.
speaking of ‘being married’

would you too be as demanding or imposing a hubby :-¿
she also wrote one on her father
so i was wondering what perspective Neelimaji might bring here.
brave and/or nice of @altecher to have taken the leap and giving us a heads-up.

Buhahahaha..... I got into trouble with a fan. What do you know? Yes, the author's biography of her father did interest me but haven't put the courage together to start the book. Yes Dalmia was involved in a fraud case involving his insurance company via through which he bought Bennett and Coleman but this was 1940s Congressis and businessmen were neck deep in corruption and everything was so well covered that it need not get out in the open or 'buried' forever if they wish to so why and what led arrest of Dalmia? Because he was one of the leading men writing truth about Nehru in his newspaper?
Wow. Thanks @Spock for getting some action in this near-dead-and-buried thread.
Currently reading The hundred year old man who climbed out of the window and disappeared . I haven’t laughed so much in a long time. It’s one of those books where I get greedy and force myself to not read too much cuz I know if I did, it would be over soon.

I could be. You see, from my perspective, it would all be cool. But from the other’s, it could be demanding or overbearing or even cruel at times. But thank goodness, I’m not a self-righteous man myself. I never try to be the perfect man. I acknowledge the weaknesses in myself and others. I just ask for a little aesthetics or order.

Bachaa hey abhi bhi when it comes to serious reading Bought the eBook because there was some kindle voucher's getting expired. So I choose The Secret Diary of Kasturba above Chetan Bhagath's "One Indian Girl " (Hope some one will upload that ). Never heard about this writer, Neelima Dalmia Adhar. But "about author" section is interesting_ "A passionate “people-watcher”_ . And always heard news about this other side of Ghandi, So just wanna know . And to get a diversion from love stories If you want I can share the eBook version .

How do people even read Chetan Bhagat? Just his articles in TOI piss me off.
He he.. There is a reason why I still read Chetan Bhagath's books. I used to read a lot since childhood. Usually Malayalam Books. And Malayalam translations of old classics (Victor hugo's , Hemingway, Pauleo cauleho, marques etc ) . Then comes teenage & a P-II computer & games. Stopped reading just like that. Then after a while I started reading again with his books. I've read that my kind of personal experience happened to lots of people. There was a * good read* thread regarding Chetan's impact on Indian literacy world. And I remember some one wrote similar like this "Chetan Bhagath brings lots of younger Indian's to world of reading. Good thing is those same people stayed on the course and moved to better books" I'm still learning. So I still like to give it a try with his books.

I remember reading a couple of his books ‘The three mistakes’ and some other. I felt like…GOD! Give me cancer, Please.

Yeah, my reading journey had been not consistent either. I got habit of reading novels in standard 8(thanks to our school’s massive library). Though, it used to be some Stephen King or Sydney Sheldon/Micheal Crichton. Later developed into reading works of some great authors like LOTR and GWTW etc. Then after a gap I left fiction altogether and shifted to non-fiction/Biography genres. Then some Indian historic/political writings. Nowadays, I am just a lazy bum.

Na, my friend is a subscriber. Go through it whenever I find time. That’s all.
We buy The Hindu Tamil at home. It was interesting in the beginning. The past few months, I don’t even find that interesting. Have almost stopped reading anything.
A little OT.
Do some one follows https://the-ke...m/ ? . I used to regularly follows Ashish K Mishra’s articles in Mint. Now he along with some renowned journalists starts this web mag. Actually we have to pay nearly 3k for an year to get access to read the articles. I was tempted to subscribe. But not done yet.

Just to follow up, it is easily one of the best books I have read so far. As Allan says, " Things are what they are and whatever will be will be".
Alchemist, the monk who sold his Ferrari are must reads
@Socrates On a different note have you read beelzebub’s tales to his grandson ?? Been trying for four years now but could never go past 1/10th. Looking for a man who did that (then maybe I can too)
PS- I asked for a book once (original Identity got snatched)
Never try something you will never be able to accomplish.
I couldn’t even complete his Meetings with Remarkable Men , and here you are talking about Beelzebub’s …
What did you do to get your previous identity taken away?
Did you just write the word “REMOVED” or you wrote something else?
