I came here to read your views on it but since a thread does not exist yet, I am creating one. Let this be the single place to read info about how to prevent this devil from entering your body. Those of you who are in Noida / Bangalore, what are your views? Assuming the Noida man had this thing since 20th Feb, he would have gone to a lot of crowded places in last 10 days and since incubation period is 15 days, we may not know who all locally caught this in last 10 days !

Guys,

One humble request pray

Whatever your political ideology maybe, whatever your social status maybe, please let’s all co-operate this 21 days. Many lives will be lost if we ignore. Even now due to this many livelihood is in danger due to the extended period of lockdown on this scale. Whether this is a good idea or bad idea we will know only in future. Let’s keep our criticisms after this is over. This is not the time to fearmonger or create panic. I know some of you have distrust on the man, but for the time being we are all in this together whether we like it or not. It is upto us whether we use this to strengthen ourselves or keep bickering and make matter worse. Government will not take such a extraordinary move if things are not that serious. Let’s work together and defeat the virus and emerge a stronger civilization.

Thank you pray pray pray pray

More than 100,000 people have been caught defying Italy’s lockdown

Italy’s 60 million citizens can only leave their houses for a handful of reasons—to go to the supermarket or the pharmacy, for instance—and need to carry a document stating why they are outside, where they are coming from, and where they are going. If caught breaking the rules, they can be fined about €200 ($215).

21 days lock down is the best decision ever.

But we shouldn’t be complacent. India should ramp up its production of necessary supplies – testing kits, ventilators, masks , medicines etc. Next 15-18 days will reveal if the infection has spread already and whether we are in phase 3.

We haven’t won the war yet, It is probably delayed and we have got some time to prepare for it. This is going to be a long year.

I just went out and came back picking up milk packets at end of our lane. I still see groups of 2 casually going for a morning walk (wearing shorts, shoes and a stick in hand to safeguard from stray dogs). Absolute facepalm! Is there any official way to raise complaints with the concerned officials?

Some important points from New Scientist Weekly..
Many people are doing everything they can to limit the spread of this virus and support.
Making sure people are effectively isolated is the really hard part.
Countries like South Korea and Singapore have done very good testing on all the suspect cases, finding all the contacts and isolating them well.
What’s happening in Italy, and in many other countries in Europe is that they are treating the mild cases at home.
In some asian countries (probably us) they are not even testing them.
They are saying if you have a cough and high fever, stay at home.
But the problem then is that people don’t know that they have the disease, they haven’t had it confirmed.
Generally in a population, around 60 to 80 per cent of those affected are going to have mild or moderate disease.
If those people are out of hospital, most of your cases will be at home, but not effectively isolated.
In China, they found that it didn’t work; nor in Italy.
They had to get them isolated in hospitals or dormitories or stadiums.
The fastest we have cranked out a vaccine (for ebola) in response to an outbreak is 5 years.
We hope to create new coronavirus vaccine in an unprecedented 12 to 18 months.

What should we realize from above ?
We have not tested enough people; we have failed to trace the contacts.
Home quarantine for suspected cases did not work in china and italy, still we did the same mistake.
Some mofos tried to escape hospitals which is shame.
Some of us may be already infected by this virus but we dont know yet.
Vaccine is at least 6 months away, hence it is out of equation right now.
Only thing we can do is to isolate ourselves, that’s it; its not going to be easy.
China survived 10 weeks in lockdown, now its our time.
Corona has done the damage, our choices and actions will define our future.

Make no mistake. When loved ones are removed from your home by ambulance because the virus has hit them hard, you are not going to be able to follow them there, sit by their hospital bed and hold their hand. You are not going to be able to pop in at 7.00 pm for visiting hours. They are going to have no one other than exhausted and brave hospital staff to see them through days or weeks of barely breathing through a ventilator until they either die or recover. They are not going to be well enough to text you.

You are not going to be able to phone the ward to check in on them regularly (staff will be too busy for that). During that time, they will be completely alone, while you sit at home waiting to hear whether they have made it through.

Imagine that person is someone you love dearly. Because it’s going to be a reality for many in the coming weeks.

And if that person in hospital happens to be you, going through that ordeal completely alone, it would be nothing less than terrifying.

All GoAir employees will have pay cut in March

As the coronavirus pandemic has drastically impacted revenues of the aviation sector, GoAir CEO Vinay Dube stated on Wednesday that all employees will be taking a pay cut in March. During the last few weeks, GoAir has already taken some cost cutting measures — it has laid off its expat pilots, asked its employees to go on leave without pay on a rotational basis, and announced that its top leadership would be taking a pay cut of up to 50 per cent.

Dube told employees in an official communication, “Under the current conditions we find ourselves in we are left with no choice but to extend salary cuts for all of us for the month of March. We will ensure that the lowest pay grades suffer the least.”

India has banned international commercial passenger flights for a period of one week from Sunday. Moreover, domestic flights have also been suspended from Tuesday midnight.

Last week, IndiGo CEO Ronojoy Dutta stated that the senior employees of the low-cost carrier will have a pay cut of up to 25 per cent. Air India also announced that the pandemic has caused “insurmountable dip” in revenues and therefore, it is reducing the allowances of all employees – except cabin crew – by 10 per cent for the next three months. — PTI

Have seen reports of Police singing and dancing to uplift people in Spain. Slither of hope is all that matters.
Pandemics like these remain mostly concentrated in big urban places outside it’s country of origin. If this lockdown was imposed a week back then chances of masses carrying it to their rural homes would have substantially reduced but then new governmen.t formation in M.P. wouldn’t have happened……….. …

Interesting lead if not already posted on how testing kits are developed – https://edition.cnn.com/2020/03/24/asia/testing...

Research by Wuhan University
People having blood group A are at higher risk of getting COVID-19.
People with type O blood group are less likely to get infected.

“If you are type A, there is no need to panic. It does not mean you will be infected 100 percent,” researcher Gao Yingdai told the South China Morning Post.
“If you are type O, it does not mean you are absolutely safe, either. You still need to wash your hands and follow the guidelines issued by authorities.”

Five new coronavirus cases were reported in Delhi in past 24 hours, pushing the number of total cases to 35, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Wednesday, as his government decided to issue e-passes for people associated with essential services to commute during the lockdown.

People ensuring essential services such as milk sellers, vegetable vendors and grocers can call helpline 1031 to get the passes on their mobile phones, Kejriwal said during a digital press conference.

The chief minister said people can walk down to shops nearby to buy items of daily use.

Amid reports of medical staffers being harassed by landlords to vacate the premises, Kejriwal requested the house owners to not misbehave with the professionals out to fight and contain the virus.

The harassment of medical staff cannot be tolerated, he said, warning that strict action will be taken against the landlords

A personal anecdote : In my local civil hospital : Only 2 junior doctors are made to work (My sister is one of them). Senior doctors are sitting inside and are not handling the patients out of fear/selfishness. They have necessary kits (ppe, masks) , but are not taking them out yet (they might be saving the kits for themselves). They said they are waiting for situation to worsen before handing out PPE.
