I have a smartphone having max rated charging current of 2 Amps but when I observed the charging current through Ampere app,I found my phone is drawing around 2.6 A current for a short period of time (5-6 seconds) then back to around 1.8 A.Observing this from last few months. Now my phone also started malfunctioning.I am using original 18 W charger (Output : 5V-2A or 9V-2A)

Can anybody tell me,what is the exact issue??

P=vi so, 10w to 18w and 18w is maximum power if voltage increases current decreases

malfunction of what nature? (could it be age related, existing defect from manufacturing, something due to falls/Jerusalem or usual electronics snag.. apart from your fears of it being due to power/charging).

These applications, I really do not know if one can rely on them and how much

But yes, I too feel that differences between 'rated' and 'actual' or 'average' is always there.
Like how in days of optical disks(CD, DVD) or magnetic tape drive spindles/ harddisks it was mentioned as 'so many thousand' rounds per minute or it reads, writes at so and so speed. But for inner circles the speed can be fast, for outer rings it is slow. Also depending on need/ heat and stage/cycle of use the average speeds were always less than rated speeds.

Same way, standby power and machine temperatures are low and might be possible that initially it draws whatever amperage is sent to it, then gradually keeps it at a steady point.. somewhat less than the rated maximum allowed.
