I was trying to open an NPS account today through the NSDL website. During the signature file upload section, My picture was fetched from Aadhaar and the signature has to be scanned and uploaded. The picture I took was jpg file and only under 300KB but I get this format error. Then saw somewhere that file size should be between 4 to 12 KB and uploaded an 11 KB file and still the same issue. But at the bottom, it says file format is jpg and file size should between 4 KB and 5 MB. Is there any condition for photo size like 120×120 etc.,?
Error “Document Uploaded () are not in Proper File Format please reupload the same”
Can anyone help?

Sorry don’t remember since it has been long time when I opened account. Can you check what is the file extension – jpg or jpeg ? Just a thought not sure if it is a reason
I tried jpg, jpeg, png & pdf. compressed jpg and jpeg as well. Don’t know why I get this weird error saying file format.
Thanks for letting me know. So looks like govt doesn’t want me to avail pension after 60
Noob question coming up ..
Benefits of opening an account in NPS?
Pension after 60. Almost equal to market returns as it invests primarily in equity.
Maybe your documents dimension is not as per requirement
Do you have the required dimension size? @Random123
Or the dimension size of the image you uploaded?
Keep a simple file name e.g. photo.jpg, sign.jpg and upload.
It was Sign only bro ☹️
If person wants to take retirement early, is there any option to declare retirement Nd take annuity plan early than 60?
I joined NPS instead of APY because:
APY is fixed monthly contribution, whereas NPS is flexible, pay whatever amount you want (albeit max 50k investment yearly in Tier1 will be eligible for TaxSavings).
I like this feature as currently 50k savings a year is nothing, but who knows about the future. Min contribution in NPS tier 1 is 500 rs a year.
Also APY needs to visit a branch for opening, not sure about closure or further actions. NPS is totally online and very much transparent.
However guys do note that APY is fixed pension, whereas NPS is market linked, however even if you opt to stay very conservative NPS will still provide better returns. Just my though process.. pls do your own research before opting in.
Thanks for pointing out the differences.
Not sure though but I think a person can opt for both i.e. APY & NPS? [I may be wrong also]
P.S. - I have searched on web where a person has shown a RTI reply where it was mentioned that a person opting for other pension funds can still apply in APY.
Just to add my 2 cents, have opened both accounts online (NPS-NSDL and APY-SBI) and both of them can be claimed under Section 80CCD (1B). APY is fixed and stable returns but currently NPS is very flexible to our risk appetite. Also, if salaried and employer supports NPS contribution, can get additional tax exemption under 80CCD(2). Sharing some references below (Though some statements are incorrect like APY also gives PRAN number, the second one seemed like a good article).
Not incorrect.
APY does give PRAN number.
I have 2 different PRAN numbers for NPS as well as APY along with their cards.
Ok so I found out the issue. As pointed out by "@Random123":https://www.desidime.com/users/1274565 the issue is not with the signature. It’s the previous tab where I uploaded my bank cheque as pdf not as jpg.
The website instructions had pdf as acceptable format and file was uploaded successfully so I moved on to next tab for signature. Later I found a old instructions pdf where it mentioned that all files should be uploaded in jpg only so I changed by cheque copy format and re-uploaded it again and voila! It worked. I apologise for wasting your time guys "@Random123":https://www.desidime.com/users/1274565 "@Seinfeld":https://www.desidime.com/users/48183 "@Mufasa":https://www.desidime.com/users/1131787 "@Ramta_Jogi":https://www.desidime.com/users/983565 "@LordGane":https://www.desidime.com/users/1278801
Since It accepted my pdf file in previous tab I never thought that document would be the issue all this time. Thank you all again
That’s a nice find. Hope they update the new instructions too accordingly. Glad it got sorted out . No apologies please😃
I also face the same problem in NSDL site while Registration. I could upload earlier page. Photo and signature page says that uploaded successfully but when confirm for the next page the message comes as it is not in proper format and re upload the files whereas everything is in order, file format and size. tried many times. Any help is welcome.
Upload all your files in JPG only. You might have uploaded your statement in PDF.
ISSUE RESOLVED: I also got the same error in signature page and wasted my 2hrs time changing the pixels, dimension. But the issue is in previous DOCUMENTS UPLOAD tab, please correct the size, format for PAN Card and Cancelled signature. Even though the format, size doesn’t match, it will not show any error on this page but it is showing on the last page confirm button signature page. Hope this will help.

Do not use any of the links on his comment. Opening NPS account through banks have additional charges. Open your NPS account through eNPS portal
Hi Prem,
Did you get any update? I’m also facing the same issue
@prem4998 When uploading scanned documents (scanned pan, cheque), try to upload them as jpg files. The browser is accepting the pdf, but subsequently when adding the photo or signature, an error is generated. This tip worked for me; I hope it does the same for you.
@prem4998 did you found any solution, same issue i am facing now. Please help

did u find a solution for the issue, i am facing same issue
Hi every one,
Got some solution for the Error “Document Uploaded () are not in Proper File Format please reupload the same" after many workarounds.
Simply Upload your canceled cheque and PAN in .jpg format. Evnthough it is taking when you upload in a canceled cheque in .pdf format, it is not supporting the coding and throwing an error in the next page which is signature uploading page.
Please check the filename, it should not contain any space or special characters
Hi There,
I tried like this,
Go back to the previous page "Documents Upload", where you have uploaded your scanned copy of PAN Card & Cancelled Cheque,
There remove and replace them (PAN Card & Cancelled Cheque scans) from PDF format to JPG format within 4KB to 12Kb size, upload them, save and click to next page,
Here upload the your same Photo & Signature in JPG format within 4KB to 12Kb size,
Now click on SAVE and Confirm, your files will get uploaded.
This worked for Me,
Hope this helps
Check the video above whoever is facing the signature upload problem. He is a life saver
Make sure you have not uploaded PDF file as PAN card or Cancelled cheque. if yes upload only jpg file for both and then try to upload jpg file as signature.
Thanks
I followed this advice but I am getting the error like "Document Uploaded ( PAN CARD COPY CANCELLED CHEQUE COPY ) are not in Proper File Format please reupload the same" 😪
Anyone facing still the same issue? I am totally stuck now.
All documents uploaded are in jpg format?
&t=169
Plz go through this video. Got 100 % effective solution for this issue (Error “Document Uploaded () are not in Proper File Format please reupload the same”)
It may be due to the previous documents being in different format. Try uploading jpg files for ID card and PAN card. This worked for me.
Document Uploaded () are not in Proper File Format please reupload the same”
I am also faced ssme error how can rectified plz help me
Upload all documents in jpg. No PDFs
Facing the same issue while uploading signature. As suggested in this thread, I ensured that all the files ( PAN, cheque, signature ) are all in jpg format within 4kb to 2mb. Still facing the error and have already spent 2-3 hours since yesterday trying out various techniques.
Totally stuck now. Anything else I should try to get this resolved ?
Reduce the file size below 300KB
