HDFC denying cashback on Flipkart order due to MCC issue

This is completely absurd to advertise this card for 5% cashback on shopping on Flipkart/Amazon and then denying cashback due to Wrong Merchant Category and name. I didn't load Paytm wallet, i simply purchase a product from Flipkart through credit card. Does HDFC expect me to force Flipkart to use a specific payment gateway for me ? Why these banks aren't transparent about merchant name and categories issues?
I mailed to HDFC grievance redressal team but they are not helpful and repeating the same thing. What options do i have?

Thanks for the suggestion buddy. I will ask Flipkart to provide details explicitly for said transaction so i can escalate this matter with HDFC. Order details clearly mention credit card as payment method, will mail hdfc once again with all the screenshots and invoices.
check again which payment method it shows in your particular flipkart order, is it credit card or paytm wallet? if it shows credit card, you are right and it is a very strange case?
No need to do kyc again. If approved, the limit will be shared with your existing card.
Flipkart uses Paytm payment gateway? I pay with axis Flipkart card and merchant always shows Flipkart internet pvt and always gives 5% cb ... Never went to Paytm gateway ..🤔
Yes, Flipkart uses multiple payment gateways Paytm, PayU, CCavenue, Razorpay etc. They don't handle payments themselves and yet it shows merchant name as Flipkart regardless of Payment gateway being used generally but these wrong merchant category mapping things happened in past and will continue to happen as long as they don't fix this issue.
Same bro, i bought something 4 days ago through my SBI cashback card but instead of Flipkart, Paytm is reflecting as a merchant under Clothing and Apparel category. I got the 5% cashback but still it is bothering as credit card companies will look it as a wallet reloading or rent payment. Negative points will be created against your credit card profile for future limit enhancement or card upgrade offers.
Do you remember what was the merchant name on the page where we enter the OTP to authorize transaction.
Flipkart uses paytm gateway but when you are on OTP authorization page it shows Flipkart payment services and thus transaction gets counted against flipkart.
Also, in the OTP sms they mention the merchant name explicitly along with amount.
Not sure, how HDFC OTP authorization page and OTP sms looks like, but in case of other banks like ICICI and SBI, they clearly mention merchant name.
However, I totally trust you because flipkart sucks.
Bro i went through OTP sms and merchant name says "Paytm" in OTP Sms similar to @Rohitagent007 case and it was showing Paytm in unsettled txns as well but after transaction settled it changed to "Paytm Wallet Noida IN". Checking merchant name on Payment page is still not a fullproof method because we aren't aware of merchant code assigned to it but yes it should have shown Flipkart. I was ordering at night in some sale and product was actually expensive item so i didn't try to cancel it after it settled. Even if it shows paytm then too it is eligible for cashback but "Paytm Wallet Noida IN"? Thats totally absurd. Cashback is a different thing, it could be different scenario for someone else..Imagine spending more than 50K on shopping txn and it doesn't even count towards retail spends and you get charged annual fee due to falling short of waiver conditions because most of banks don't consider wallet spends for waiver conditions and that annual fee can be any amount depending upon card.
They aren't helpful and repeating the same thing. My RM isn't helpful either, only trying to sell me banking products. I had some heath issues and following up with hdfc support is the most exhausting and worst experience so i gave up. I am thinking to close accounts with them.
Did you get the cashback? I had the same MCC issue with BOB and Flipkart. They never gave reward points on genuine Flipkart purchase of phone because Flipkart set the MCC to "Books and clothing store" or something. Despite complaining to RBI ombudsman, it made no difference. RBI ombudsman closed the case as "customer not agreeing with Terms and Conditions". W T F!
These MCC issues are so frequent and repetitive that i am amazed why they aren't bothered to fix the issue...may be this is intentional...never saw anyone getting shopping MCCs while loading wallets. it is always opposite and customer losing cashback.
This Paytm is actually a cheat payment gateway. Even when using my bob hpcl credit card at hpcl bunk, reward points don't get credited if the salesman swipes in Paytm pos machine. But if he swipes in other bank pos machine, the reward points get credited
Loop flipkart and HDFC in a written email and provide every detail of that transaction there.AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, ASK flipkart to explicitly state the payment method used for that order and transaction id.Also attach ss of your order details stating payment method used for the order. Request them to resolve this issue for you stating that if they fail to resolve the issue, consumer court and RBI ombudsman will be contacted and a case will be filed. If they still fail to resolve the issue, file the same complaint on Twitter. If it's still not resolved, contact consumer forum.and RBI ombudsman. This is a perfect recipe which might force consumer court to slap the sh!t out of flopkart and the bank itself.I still think that if you provide every detail of transaction with bank, they should listen and investigate. But banks and companies don't listen easily to consumers(that's because there is a little population which tries to exploit the system). They only listen to the slaps provided by RBI ombudsman and consumer courts.
