I had salary account with BOB, advantage variant. Opened in 2016 stopped using after 2017. But the bank levied debit card and SMS charges I paid 500 later lien went on to increase now the lien amount 1162. I was unavailable when debit card was renewed in 2021 so it went back to the source. Account is now dormant. Can I ask the bank to remove lien amount or paying it is the only option? if I close should I pay the lien amount. As per RBI no negative amount needs to be paid.

If you don't need this account then just forgot this account. They will close themselves after some year.

I though the same. But I applied for their credit card so just checking if I can make this account working without paying lien amount.

Credit card has No relation with your dormant bank account.
I applied for BOB CC and card approved after physical verification, during that time my account was in dormant for more than 6 years

If you want to utilize this account,

1. Go to your base branch.

2. Meet BM, explain the situation, and possibly tell them you want to transfer some large funds to this account if they waive the charges OR close the account.

Most branches do waive the charges for customer satisfaction for once. But, it's purely on luck.
