Hey guys,
So this is the story,
I had an airtel sim in which I had a yearly recharge plan active (1799rs),
I started having connectivity issues like bad call quality, or no voice during calls.
Recently a family member got hospitalised, I am the one running for reports, bills everything.
During this I used to get calls from my insurance company regarding claims, but thanks to airtel, All calls were either not audible or voice broke between conversations, (Tier 1 city btw).
I got extremely frustrated with this, the person in front was too.
I decided to port to jio, I still had (150 days remaining) but what's the use of validity if the most basic thing (calling) didn't work?
Jio guy warned me about the scammer (redacted for safety) guys scam calling at last moment, I thought they were just badmouthing the opposition.
I recharged for annual jio plan 3000rs and left for hospital.
Cut short the next day I get a call from a personal number, Truecaller said JIO mnp team.
I thought maybe it's for verification, I picked up the phone, The lady in front goes :
Lady : I am from the jio mnp team, is this mr xxx speaking?
Me : Yes
Lady : I am from the jio mnp team, I can see you have raised a porting request from airtel to jio
Me : yes I have
Lady : For porting from airtel you have to cancel the existing airtel connection.
Me : (knowing this isn't the process) okay, what do I have to do
Lady : You have to send CANCEL <SPACE> your number to 1900, This will cancel your airtel connection and jio plan will start.
Me : (At this point I knew it's scam) You are from <scam> aren't you?
Lady : No sir, this is a new government rule
Me : Shut up scammer (hangs up)
The thing is I had already made 3000rs recharge on jio by this point, So cancellation of porting means total waste of money, no refund will be given.
Stay alert guys, Confirm the process thoroughly before listening to any company, they are there to just earn money from you and even if it costs you a lot of money THEY DO NOT CARE
Edit #1 : After reading comment of gaurav mittal, Changed the topic to not bash any one party.
Possibility of it being any of the two parties is existent, But the porting guy warning me beforehand has me still tilted towards one side, But whatever the reality be,
This post is not made to bash any company, only to spread awareness about ongoing scams and how to stay safe.

What is the procedure for Mobile Number Portability?
1. Generate UPC at the point of sale of recipient operator. SMS the word ‘PORT’ (which shall be case-insensitive, i.e., it can be ‘port’ or ‘Port’ etc.) followed by a space and the ten-digit mobile number which is to be ported, to 1900. The UPC will be received through SMS on the mobile of the Subscriber.
2. Fill the Customer Acquisition Form (CAF) and Porting Form of the operator of your choice and mention the valid UPC. After submission of necessary payment and requisite KYC documents, collect new SIM from the operator at customer service centre/Point of Sale. You will receive a message from MNP service provider confirming the submission of your porting request along with the available withdrawal window of 24 Hours.
3. Porting within a Licensed Service Area (LSA) (e.g. porting within Gujarat LSA) takes 3 working days. The porting from one LSA to another LSA (e.g. Delhi to Mumbai) takes 5 working days. Also, in case of porting of Corporate number, Porting time is 5 working days. [there are 22 geographical regions in the country designated as LSA] Porting time in Jammu & Kashmir, Assam, and North East licensed service areas, shall be up to 15 working days.
You will receive an SMS indicating the date and time for porting which is during night hours and there is no service for a maximum period of 4 hours.
4. Insert the new SIM in your phone. Post verification, your mobile number is active on the network of your new service provider.
How can a customer withdraw his porting request?
A. A subscriber may withdraw the porting request within 24 hours of submitting porting request by sending SMS to 1900. To cancel the port request, SMS ‘CANCEL’ (which shall be case-insensitive, i.e. it can be ‘cancel’ or ‘Cancel’ etc.), followed by a space and the ten-digit mobile number, whose porting request is sought to be cancelled.
Also, after withdrawal, customer shall not be entitled to any refund of the porting charges paid, if any.
Does it matter if I have a Punjab Airtel Sim and staying in Delhi ?
Will it afffect any connectivity issues ?
I got scammed by Airtel last week. After paying ₹299 to Jio for prepaid recharge. The guy called and lied he was calling from Jio MNP team (mobile number portability). He gave details like exact time I had sent porting SMS, wasn't really aware Airtel could sink so low to prevent porting out, so I believed them to be genuine Jio people. He said there was some technical issue so by mistake my prepaid was recharged as postpaid and told me to send CANCEL SMS and then re-send PORT SMS. Then once I had sent CANCEL SMS, the guy hung up and became unreachable.
What can I do? Please help. I do have the entire phone conversation recorded and that Airtel fraudster's phone number
Truecaller Showing JIO MNP Team , Shocked , New Technique Implemented
These companies will go to any degree to get those profits, even if it costs anyone their hard earned money.
The thing is it was a personal number as well, So they can just wash their hands if anyone complains anywhere, they will say, It was not us it was someone else pranking you so that you can be on our network, which will benefit us btw.
One question
How you can recharge before porting?
This shouldn't be done as well.
Airtel was big enough to fight with jio other small companies are already gulped digested and pooed by Jio
FYI
Airtel gulped BPL mobile , unior, Aircel wheareas Jio none
