Hey guys,
So this is the story,
I had an airtel sim in which I had a yearly recharge plan active (1799rs),
I started having connectivity issues like bad call quality, or no voice during calls.
Recently a family member got hospitalised, I am the one running for reports, bills everything.
During this I used to get calls from my insurance company regarding claims, but thanks to airtel, All calls were either not audible or voice broke between conversations, (Tier 1 city btw).
I got extremely frustrated with this, the person in front was too.
I decided to port to jio, I still had (150 days remaining) but what's the use of validity if the most basic thing (calling) didn't work?
Jio guy warned me about the scammer (redacted for safety) guys scam calling at last moment, I thought they were just badmouthing the opposition.
I recharged for annual jio plan 3000rs and left for hospital.
Cut short the next day I get a call from a personal number, Truecaller said JIO mnp team.
I thought maybe it's for verification, I picked up the phone, The lady in front goes :
Lady : I am from the jio mnp team, is this mr xxx speaking?
Me : Yes
Lady : I am from the jio mnp team, I can see you have raised a porting request from airtel to jio
Me : yes I have
Lady : For porting from airtel you have to cancel the existing airtel connection.
Me : (knowing this isn't the process) okay, what do I have to do
Lady : You have to send CANCEL <SPACE> your number to 1900, This will cancel your airtel connection and jio plan will start.
Me : (At this point I knew it's scam) You are from <scam> aren't you?
Lady : No sir, this is a new government rule
Me : Shut up scammer (hangs up)
The thing is I had already made 3000rs recharge on jio by this point, So cancellation of porting means total waste of money, no refund will be given.
Stay alert guys, Confirm the process thoroughly before listening to any company, they are there to just earn money from you and even if it costs you a lot of money THEY DO NOT CARE
Edit #1 : After reading comment of gaurav mittal, Changed the topic to not bash any one party.
Possibility of it being any of the two parties is existent, But the porting guy warning me beforehand has me still tilted towards one side, But whatever the reality be,
This post is not made to bash any company, only to spread awareness about ongoing scams and how to stay safe.

What is the procedure for Mobile Number Portability?
1. Generate UPC at the point of sale of recipient operator. SMS the word ‘PORT’ (which shall be case-insensitive, i.e., it can be ‘port’ or ‘Port’ etc.) followed by a space and the ten-digit mobile number which is to be ported, to 1900. The UPC will be received through SMS on the mobile of the Subscriber.
2. Fill the Customer Acquisition Form (CAF) and Porting Form of the operator of your choice and mention the valid UPC. After submission of necessary payment and requisite KYC documents, collect new SIM from the operator at customer service centre/Point of Sale. You will receive a message from MNP service provider confirming the submission of your porting request along with the available withdrawal window of 24 Hours.
3. Porting within a Licensed Service Area (LSA) (e.g. porting within Gujarat LSA) takes 3 working days. The porting from one LSA to another LSA (e.g. Delhi to Mumbai) takes 5 working days. Also, in case of porting of Corporate number, Porting time is 5 working days. [there are 22 geographical regions in the country designated as LSA] Porting time in Jammu & Kashmir, Assam, and North East licensed service areas, shall be up to 15 working days.
You will receive an SMS indicating the date and time for porting which is during night hours and there is no service for a maximum period of 4 hours.
4. Insert the new SIM in your phone. Post verification, your mobile number is active on the network of your new service provider.
How can a customer withdraw his porting request?
A. A subscriber may withdraw the porting request within 24 hours of submitting porting request by sending SMS to 1900. To cancel the port request, SMS ‘CANCEL’ (which shall be case-insensitive, i.e. it can be ‘cancel’ or ‘Cancel’ etc.), followed by a space and the ten-digit mobile number, whose porting request is sought to be cancelled.
Also, after withdrawal, customer shall not be entitled to any refund of the porting charges paid, if any.
These companies will go to any degree to get those profits, even if it costs anyone their hard earned money.
The thing is it was a personal number as well, So they can just wash their hands if anyone complains anywhere, they will say, It was not us it was someone else pranking you so that you can be on our network, which will benefit us btw.
Both have good or bad network depends on location
Recharge can be done only after porting? how cancel works?
BTW Airtel is a nasty company, RIP to poor victims!
BTW Airtel is a nasty company
totally agree
One question
How you can recharge before porting?
This shouldn't be done as well.
Wow and Truecaller is shit can be programmed with a group of people, never installed...
The thing is, I can myself set my name as Barack Obama, and Truecaller will actually show that!!
Airtel openly scamming. Insane
They used to do it
Infact they were pro in it
This actually happens always here. I remember when I was getting my airtel number ported into Jio. The Umbrella man had already warned that after this PORT you will receive many calls form airtel and they will pretend I am (Umbrella Guy) is calling you, and you need to send a MSG ( cancel port) to 1900 to make this port request successful.
- Call 1: I am that umbrella guy who helped you in porting, By mistake I have choose postpaid connection for your number. You need to cancel the current port request then I can change postpaid in prepaid from my end.
call 2: I forgot to do 239 rs recharge, send cancel message post which I will get the option to do recharge on your number.
call 3: postpaid again.
See, almost everyone's experiencing the same, let's alert the people going to port beforehand so they don't get scammed!
recently, thought of porting to airtel, im glad i didnt port to airtel
I had jio, ported to airtel for the 1799 plan but I ported out with 150 days left, Too frustrated already to deal with this "AAWAZ NAHI AARAHI HAI" madness
chortel is one of the most madarc companies
Airtel was big enough to fight with jio other small companies are already gulped digested and pooed by Jio
Bro same issues, i have yearly plan, but now facing connectivity issues
It's really bad, Every other call there's problems, Jio is better, At least it works!
Jio gives 299 recharge free for new porting cucumbers then why you did 3000 recharge yourself?
depends on the locality you live in. for me it's around ₹50 that too in retailer shop
sorry am lost but if u did not send the text then how u lost money ?
or u just sharing the convo to warn us ?
btw 3k even before jio activation - why ?
Moral of story is dont do annual plan as I already know jio network in coming months will be in shambles just like airtel. ek hi thali ke chate bate.
jio, airtel & public = distrous 3some waiting to happen when customers have no option to go elsewhere & telcos have no intention to improve sheety sevices knowing consumers are helpless all while govt enjoying on the side watching & doing nothing
I didn't lose the money, I just said If I would have sent the message, it would've been lost
When I port my number, I always ignore unknown calls till port cancellation time is over.
I'm 100% sure It was not airtel guys
That was the same person or friend of person who done your porting process
If you have sent that msg then that 3000 rs. Would have been directly refunded to salesman but you was thinking that will be forfeited
So basically if somehow he managed to cancel porting request from your end then he had kept that 3000 in his pocket
You can cross verify by calling from another number
The thing is, the same porting guy warned me against those guys, He told me not to pick up those calls.
If he wanted the money, why would he alert me beforehand?
HDFC complaining about Airtel. Let's short both of em. 🐒
Every company is scamming
Even when you generate port out request from jio, they will also call and beg to stay on network and else you're paise banane ki machine for them or might a died man
Arey dost. At least they don't impersonate.
hope whoever are/were in the hospital and those around them are emotionally and physiologically better/ stronger now.
2]
you are a naqli/ counterfeit Dimer. naam kharaab kar diya Dimers ka🙁 by loosing money like this.
That too.. to whom!
3]
wouldn't taking the new number of the other operator and call forwarding from Dubbatel have solved at-least the incoming calls issue?
Even though the money could not properly be recouped on the Airtel plan, at-least it would not be a TOTAL loss like so.
4]
Infact in Jio button phone plans, ₹1234 used to be for 28×12 days.. so if call recording of outgoing calls was required then that Jio phone with the Airtel/main device too could have worked out.
5]
Yes the retention teams employ fraudulent methods/ fraudulent agents BUT YOUR STORY DOES NOT ADD UP here.
The cancellation of the port request only works for N hours (I think 20-22 hours) after the next operator has filled the Customer Acquisition Form and submitted the NOC request to the previous operator.
But the number migration does not happen in 24 hours, so it is Unclear how Jio can accept even one rupee (forget 2000 rupees) for a connection when the number is not even registered on their network.
Unless if-course you are continuing in the super daanveer/ charity mode and unofficially/in cash paid the amount to the retailer or the agent.
Thank you for adding the transcript.
Since prior to Covid-19, a retailer/shopkeeper who does MNP and new SIMs religiously cautions, warns his MNP customers to not send ANY cancel message after receiving such (fake) calls claiming to be from the other operator.
I mean I observed that tetsiler since 5½ years only, and maybe he always did so. Because it is the easiest trick in the book (for the telecom company vendors, teams trying to stop the migration).
do not rush for yearly recharge ... first test the network and everything latter decide .
for me , sometime jio is better , sometime airtel , sometime voda
its all about bad days / good days and luck .
I hate that when I call someone urgently, an ad saying "Do not share OTP" comes up, Which is time consuming.
F you, Airtel.
This is correct airtel is giving issues too much these days
Basic calling is not working
No voice is coming from other side
Jio me bhi aksar hota hai. Cal hi nahi lagta.. sametime.. Amazon flikkart call gets in spam.. sometime one side voice.. same with jio fiber.. speed test show perfect but browsing or any gaming.. keep disconnect due to network issue.. myjio app diag show everything perfect.
Kabhi kabhi to musibat ban jata hai urgent me issue aa jqye to. Anyway Airtel was more worst..thats why came to jio
If port is done to jio then whats this cancel sms?
never use chortel and "VI"khari, they only loot money, VIkhari used to be unreachable always, ported to jio
>I had an airtel....
I stopped reading after that , as i know whoesever take chortel and trust their hard earned money into chortel will be in trouble sooner or later
-Chortel chor , and chortel customer chu..
Do you know why BSNL has no 4G and no 5G? it's power of Mukesh and his puppet,
WTF, TRAI should take some action against this, atleast reconfirm with the user if they want to cancel, maybe by messaging user that this will cancel the porting and they will stay on airtel and send YES for cancellation.
I think you receive a call from Airtel.
