The telecom regulator has ordered telcos to allow subscribers to be able to port out to another telecom operator irrespective of their prepaid or postpaid tariff plans. The decision comes within days of Reliance Jio Infocomm alleging that Vodafone Idea’s new tariff plans disallow consumers below a certain threshold of tariff plans from porting out.
Super. Recharged for VI number with 99 as was not sure to which service provider, I should move to. With this new rule, I think I can send sms this month without having to recharge 200+ plan for sending SMS
So if I recharge my Vi number with ₹10 and able to port out without any plan?
May not be that simple, with all these crooks.
May be still need a plan, whatever minimum, but service validity will be required to port out. Just my guess.
Sachi me?
Can anyone confirm this
If it weren’t for the complaint filed by Jio, TRAI would have continued to turn a blind eye to the consumer complaints. Such a pathetic organization.
But what if VI discontinues all the plans below ₹100/- ?
Great news. Will port all numbers to Jio
Shit, recharged with 179 in morning
Goodbye to the need of an unlimited pack for a porting message. Now any pack of validity will allow porting SMS as directed by Trai.
What if vi complain against jio for same
(I mean port sms ) btw what is the min recharge to port from jio!?❓
Interestengly same as vi/airtel.
It’s laughable as how could they even complaint against others when they are doing the same and actually they were the first to introduce this service validity concept
Edit- Minimum recharge amount required to port-out is 128 for Vi/Airtel and 149 for Jio
Porting & UPI related messages should be free of any type of restriction whatsoever.
The authority has then said that it has received several complaints from subscribers that despite sufficient balance on their phones they have been unable to send messages to port out to the short code 1900.
I think customers are complaining from last 6 months about this , then why no action was taken?
Secondly , it was JIO who discontinued SMS msgs on 98rs Plan [not 119rs] ..before any other telecom operator stopped it …On airtel it was possible to port out even on 48rs plan .
If this thing was done on customer complaints , then it should have been done 4 months before itself ……..“don’t settle scores in the name of consumers”
ambani showing everyone who is the boss 😂
Kuch accha bhi ho toh usme bhi issue.
Jio Hai To Possible Hai

Sector regulator TRAI on Tuesday directed telecom operators to “immediately” enable port out SMS facility for all mobile users requiring it, irrespective of value of their tariff offer, vouchers, or plans they have opted for.
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has taken a strong note of telecom service companies not providing outgoing SMS facility in certain prepaid vouchers.
Immediately..? But still No operator allowing to send messages..
Tried with Airtel and jio.. having main balance of 50 and 100
Very good decision but still not able to send sms for porting
They are looting customers for just getting one otp many services required otp from bank, aadhar, port, gas, this very serious matter they must allow this transaction which is necessary
Jio ne kaun sa allow kr rakha hai, portout sms without monthly plan
Hope that “immediately” doesn’t took ages
Tell Jio to allow sms in every plan and take away min. 129/149 condition.
Any update?
Anyone able to send PORT sms yet?
Recharged with Rs.19 just now on one Airtel (Punjab) number and sent. Not going, Maybe they will take sometime like 24 hrs. Or they may chellenge TRAI ruling in TDSAT.
If this order was about to raise tariff within an hour new updated plans got listed
It’s high time they should force the cellular companies to give free SMSs. Morons are doing stupid things

You all are savvy investors, pro shoppers.
Think ‘beyond’ these restrictions.
Keep mass mailing or form some informal/ formal consumer rights group and write to the morons ⚌ babus ⚌ bureaucrats ⚌ TRAI officials and government officials and write to the morons ⚌ TelCos themselves.
That just like multi-channel facility for services like DND, value added services, tele-verificatiin, pack activation and so on…
… even for porting, these morons can empower the consumer by letting them “choose”.
Choose between using the port out feature via
1}}
a logged in website (where incoming OTP or a special link to visit is sent to confirm porting request)
2}}
or by a USSD request (again reconfirmed by toll free SMS)
3}}
OR even by calling a dedicated number (and verifying/ cross checking can again be implemented). Like how we currently call 59059 for tele-verification and enter OTP or year of birth and last four digits of the UID of the photo ID document.
Or how one can currently change DND preferences even by ☎️📱CALLING📲📞 1909
Generation of port out code needs to be made possible via such phone calls, registration via website or by USSD, besides ofcourse it being a toll-free SMS sending feature.

It’s time Npci and banks also complain to trai regarding Upi messages.
If it weren’t for the complaint filed by Jio, TRAI would have continued to turn a blind eye to the consumer complaints. Such a pathetic organization.
