Due to the second and most dangerous wave of Covid-19, India has left behind Brazil to become 2nd in the total number of Coronavirus cases. Also, it stands on 3rd position in the number of deaths due to this deadly virus. Amidst this, vaccination is in full swing in India with many private hospitals, NGOs, social organizations, and other volunteers standing up to provide a helping hand. In this short read we will discuss Which Vaccine is Best for Covid in India as many are confused to make an effective choice.

Covaxin vs Covishield vs Sputnik-V : Which is the Best Covid-19 Vaccine in India?

Which is the Best Covid-19 Vaccine in India? Well, this question is daunting as there are mixed reviews on all the available vaccines. Let’s have a look at the current Coronavirus vaccines, Covaxin, Covishield, and Sputnik-V to make some comparisons.

Covaxin

The Covaxin vaccine is developed in India itself by Bharat Biotech. It is an inactivated vaccine. It operates by triggering the immune system of the body. This triggering is done by the dead virus contents present in the vaccine. It is found that Covaxin makes the person less sick (short sickness after vaccination) as compared to Covishield.

According to the preliminary data of phase 3 trial, Covaxin has an efficacy rate of 81%. It has to be taken in 2 doses with the 2nd dose to be taken after 28 days from the 1st dose. Clinical trials of Covaxin for kids aged 2+ years have been started in India as per a Pharmeasy report.

This vaccine is made by using a similar method which was used for making vaccines for seasonal influenza, rabies, polio, pertussis, and Japanese encephalitis.

Covishield

The Covishield vaccine is developed jointly by Oxford University and AstraZeneca. It is based on the viral vector platform. It is made from a common cold virus (weakened form) found in chimpanzees. People have complained about headache, joint pain, and fever after getting this vaccine, but it lasts for 1-2 days only.

As per the trial data, Covishield has an efficacy rate of 70%. Again, this vaccine has to be taken in 2 doses with the 2nd dose to be taken 84 days after the 1st dose. Covishield is made by using methods which were used to make vaccines for ebola.

Sputnik-V

Russia’s Sputnik-V vaccine is developed by Moscow’s Gamaleya Institute. It is a vector vaccine based on an adenovirus. It uses a cold-type virus as a carrier to deliver a small fragment of the Covid-19 to the body.

Sputnik-V is the latest vaccine (arrived in May 2021) to be used in India. According to a report by The Lancet, it gives around 92% efficacy from Covid-19 virus. It has 2 slightly different versions which are given as dose 1 and dose 2. The gap between both doses should be 21 days.

All vaccines meet approval and safety standards. Moreover, these 3 vaccines are effective in protection from Coronavirus. Therefore, whenever you get a chance to get vaccinated you can go ahead with any of these available vaccines.

Upcoming Coronavirus Vaccines in India 2021

India is planning to bring in global Coronavirus vaccines amidst short supply, rising cases, and many other concerns. This will boost vaccination, but also make way for paid vaccinations and may increase vaccination costs by private entities.

Pfizer

Pfizer-BionTech is all set to provide its mRNA-based vaccine to India. According to a TOI report, it will arrive in July 2021 in India. Moreover, it said that India will provide around 5 crore Pfizer vaccine doses to the public between July-October 2021.

The Pfizer vaccine has worked well in the UK, USA, Canada, Brazil, Israel, Australia, Japan and Singapore. It is also working well for kids aged between 12-18 yrs in some countries so India might also expect some good news for kids vaccination.

Moderna

The Moderna vaccine is also based on mRNA just like Pfizer. It is expected to arrive by the end of 2021 in India. Cipla may become the Indian supplier of this vaccine. The Moderna vaccine gives 94% efficacy against symptomatic Covid.

Novavax

Novavax is a US-based vaccine. In India, it is managed by The Serum Institute of India which also manufactures Covishield. Its trials were started in November 2020 in India and is expected to be implemented for use in July 2021.

Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen

The Janssen vaccine is developed by the American medical giant Johnson & Johnson. It is a single shot vaccine. It is implemented in the US and UK, and has shown great efficacy rates. The possibility of this vaccine arriving in India is very less as it is currently used as an emergency Covid vaccine.

If your parents are 55+ and having diabetes or BP. I would not recommend to get vaccine. It’s better stay at home, and build immunity naturally.

Every vaccine is almost working fine. It’s my personal experience . I think my experience would help atleast some to avoid doubts vaccine efficiency !
My wife being a nurse, vaccinated with Covishield in very first spell of vaccination, two doses completed. On 10 April, a small disturbance in throat, she had been tested positive and recovered easily in home isolation.
Myself being a sugar patient, vaccinated with Covaxin on 1st April and 30th April. I was tested 3 times from April 27th to 21st May, everytime the results were negative.

But my brother, ex.army (has no health complications)staying with us, has not been vaccinated affected severely with Vivid. Tested positive on April 10th with body pains, throat infection head ache.., by God’s grace, after a long hospitalisation, he also recovered completely. My son aged 4 years tested negative. I think children have resistance to be safeguard from Covid. Hence, i request you all pls be vaccinated first

First of all it is necessary to take the Vaccine.
First preference should be availability.
If you get the chance to choose then I can explain about the Efficacy and time gap.
If you are planning to travel abroad then you should go for Covishield as it has been approved form WHO, so you can get the waiver from 14 days quarantine period.
But if you have to be in India then if you get Sputnik V, go for it as it has 91% efficacy.
2nd Covaxin, but one thing to keep in mind that Covaxin 1st dose build lesser antibody response than Covishield, so you will get the full protection from Covaxin only after 14 days of 2nd dose. But I preferred Covaxin because Covaxin has used the whole Virus and it will protect from many mutant strains as you never know which strain will come in next wave. And also you get efficacy around 80%.

Now About Covishield. Latest study has revealed that Covishield produces higher antibody post 1st dose, so even if you did not get 2nd dose it will give you some amount of protection after 1st dose when compared to Covaxin. And in case of Covishield time Gap of 2nd dose plays a major role. Higher the gap, Higher will be efficacy. So if gap is 28 days efficacy is 50-60%, if it increase to around 56 days then efficacy is 60-70% and a gap of 3 months will give a efficacy of around 80%.

So for efficacy of 80% you have to wait for 3 months but in case of Covaxin you have to wait for 30 days & moreover Covishield has used only some protein part of COVID-19 virus so you never know how many mutant strains it will cover. Where as as per latest studies Covaxin gives protection from many of the mutant strains of COVID-19 Virus.

So now the Choice is yours.

Mainly these r not vaccines vaccine mean perfectly cure those r antidotes I think increase self immune is the best

Deal Cadet Deal Cadet
Link Copied

You can not depend on self immunity. And building Self Immunity is a long term process, it not like that you make immunity within days. This time even young generation also succumbed to COVID-19 whom people think they have good immunity.

Now old age people, people with undying health condition cannot have a good immune system. Even young generation now a days so stressed out & because of our life style many are getting obesity, even young generation is having diabetes, hypertension, heart disease so many people can not have that sort of life style changes even if they want to have good immunity.

Vaccines are also like injecting you the Covid-19 virus or a part of that virus but dead virus so your immune system will also make same type of antibodies that is will be making against natural COVID-19 infection. But you will not get the disease because disease causing property of that virus will not be there as neither it could multiply nor it can cause the infection. Only some side effect can be there as it will act as foreign particle for body and your body will build immune response against it. And that antibodies will remain in your body so that when actual COVID-19 virus comes your body already has antibodies to fight against that natural Virus. Even if you get some symptoms that will be mild.

So you can not depend only on your good immune system and moreover you will also act as carrier and will be a barrier in achieving the herd immunity because it may be there that your yourself gets mild infection but you will circulate the infection to others (may be to your relatives and friends or to the society).

If Vaccines do not had a role then POLIO, SMALL POX would not have been eliminated.

Vaccines can never give 100% protection to everyone because antibody response still be made by your body so every person will make different quality and quantity of antibodies. So that quality and quantity of antibody will decide whether you get 100% effectiveness against virus or you will get mild to moderate infection. In 10-20% cases it can be possible that immune response is not built at all. So it’s better to have at least 60-80% of protection rather than having 0% and relying only on Self immune system.

It’s like you have Seat belt in your car but you have additional protection with Air Bags as well. So Self Immune system is your seat belt and Air Bags is Vaccines. So your chances of fatality would be mild to moderate if you have both seat belt and Airbags. But only having seat belt and in case of accident chances can be there with mild to severe injury.

And moreover everybody thinks that he has a good immunity, but you can not take risk with that. It will be like HIT &TRIAL. If you pass you will be among 97-98% who survived if not than you can be in the list of remaining 2-3%.

But Still no one can force anyone to take the Vaccine, But the Fact is that study the facts rather than following the rumours and half truth.

Getting vaccinated is more important rather than thinking of which one is the best. Vaccination is the need of hour. So, it’s better we all get vaccinated as soon as possible rather than waiting for preferred vaccine slots.

I don’t think that we should be worried about this. All we should be worried about is getting vaccinated as soon as possible.

Good morning, vaccine koi bhi lo, but doble mask and frequent washing of hand(shop or sanitizer) will save u from covid’19.This is my personal experience bhai log. Vaccine lene ke pahle mai jayada
Stick tha rule pe, to mujhe covid touch nahi kar paya. Mere sath kam karne wale bahut log ko hua but mujhe nahi hua.
Vaccine ka 1st dose lene ke bad mai careless ho gaya and now within the month I suffer from covid.
This is my personal opinion that vaccine ke sath covid rule follow kijiye.
