On Monday, WhatsApp began rolling out joinable group calls, which allow users to join a group video or audio call after it has started and has been missed earlier. Users will be able to join a group call even if they miss a call when their phone rings at first. The update now includes an easy option to leave and rejoin a group WhatsApp call while it is already in progress.

WhatsApp users haven't had a default option to join a group call until today. During a phone or video conference on the platform, however, participants in an active call can add members. The new features are especially beneficial for college or school classes and professional meetings.

WhatsApp rolls out a new feature for 'group calling' and additional features.

The 'Joinable calls,' according to the Facebook-owned company, eliminates the strain of answering a group call as it begins and brings the immediacy and ease of in-person talks to WhatsApp group calling.

How to join a missed group call on WhatsApp (New Feature)?

Users will see a new "tap to join" option in their WhatsApp call log, allowing them to join an ongoing group call even if they have previously missed it. Those who want to use the new functionality can do so by going to their WhatsApp Call log and tapping the call they want to join. This will take you to the call information screen.

Users must first access the WhatsApp group conversation they want to video call in order to begin a video conference. Tap the Group Call button if there are nine or more people in the group. You can use Video Call if there are eight or fewer people in the group.

For making group video calls from the Calls tab, users need to tap New Call > New Group Call > Find the contacts you want to add > Video Call.

The CALLS tab will display the history of group video calls. According to WhatsApp, you may view the individual participants from a call by tapping the call history. At present, the group calling on WhatsApp allows up to eight participants to video call with each other.

Furthermore, the app has stated that the new feature would have no impact on end-to-end encryption's security and privacy.

How to start a voice or video call on WhatsApp desktop?

WhatsApp's iPhone and Android apps have long supported audio and video calls, but the feature is now available on desktop applications as well. The feature is now only accessible for one-to-one talks, but WhatsApp has stated that group voice and video calls would be added in the future. On WhatsApp, all voice and video calls are encrypted from beginning to end.

Here's how to use WhatsApp desktop to make a voice or video call and what you'll need.

  1. Open the WhatsApp desktop app on your computer
  2. Scan the QR code using your phone (open WhatsApp on your phone > Tap Settings > WhatsApp Web/Desktop)
  3. Open the individual chat with the person you want to make a call to
  4. Click on the voice call icon or voice call
  5. Tap on End Call when you're done

During the call, you can mute or unmute your mic by clicking the microphone button. It's also possible to go from a voice call to a video call while on the phone.
