Reliance Jio and Warner Bros have secured a deal that aims to bring Warner Bros and its owned-media company, HBO’s movies, TV series, and shows on the JioCinema platform.
"HBO Original, Max Original, and Warner Bros. Television series are set to premiere on JioCinema on the same day as the U.S.," Reliance Jio and Warner Bros said in a statement as reported first by Reuters earlier on Thursday.
Soon JioCinema users can expect to see popular movies and shows such as Succession, Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, and the Harry Potter series, on the Indian streaming platform, according to a joint statement by the companies.
The finances of the deal are not revealed yet. However, in a report, the JioCinema Warner Bros’ content deal is said to be a “multi-year agreement.”
After Reuter’s report, Network 18’s shares also saw a rise in their share price in the Indian stock market.
JioCinema’s Paid Subscription Plans recently got leaked ahead of the alleged news of a merger between JioCinema and Voot to form a single OTT platform called JioVoot. Viacom 18, the parent company of both, Voot and JioCinema have also brought the IPL rights from the year 2023 to the year 2027 for $2.7 Billion (23,757 crores).
Reliance Media also announced 100 upcoming movies and shows on its streaming platform, JioCinema earlier this month
The president of Reliance Media had previously hinted towards JioCinema to lay its foot in the OTT and movies streaming space. Now, after the multiple new and upcoming services and updates on JioCinema, it is clear that Reliance plans to disrupt the OTT space and compete head-to-head against other OTT platforms such as Netflix and Disney+ Hotstar.
However, currently, the platform is still much behind the OTT giants like Netflix and Disney+ Hotstar, Amazon Prime, and others.
