The Indian smartphone market seems to have grown only 1% in the Q2 of the year 2024. As a result of the recent Budget 2024 of India announcement, duties on mobile phones, chargers, and printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) were reduced from 20% to 15%. This means consumers can expect a fall in the prices of imported mobile phones & chargers. Nevertheless, here are the new & upcoming smartphone launches in August 2024 that you may want to have a look at:

Its about time! Get ready to welcome the Google Pixel 9 series in India soon. The Google Pixel 9 series will include three devices Google Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel Fold (first-ever foldable Google Pixel phone launch in India). The Pixel 9 Series will be revealed in the Pixel 9 Event on August 13th and the phones will be up for grabs starting August 14th in India. Overall, the Pixel 9 Series is expected to get an upgrade in its performance (Tensor G4 chipset), an improvement in its camera (with high hopes especially from the Pixel 9 Pro) and of course in addition to Google’s Gemini AI assistant & Circle to Search expect to get a bunch of new AI features like Pixel Screenshots and Emergency SOS. Leaks and rumours have it that users can get free access to Google's AI model Gemini Advanced for one year.

The launch date of the Google Pixel 9 series in India is August 14th, a day after the Google Pixel Event which will take place at its headquarters in Mountain View, California and will be available to live stream on YouTube and Google Store website.

Pixel 9 Series is probably one of the most buzzing new smartphones in August 2024 and they kind of deserve that too. While the Pixel 8 series in the past mostly disappointed a lot of users on the battery front & the tensor’s heating issues, we cannot deny that the camera spec that Google Pixel offers is one of the best you could get in a smartphone. Poco, the Chinese smartphone brand is all set to return with yet another new budget smartphone launch in the coming days. Get ready to see POCO M6 Plus 5G, a new addition to POCO’s M6 series. The upcoming smartphone in India from POCO will feature a Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 Advanced Edition chip which at first may feel similar to POCO M6 Pro’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 2. Amongst other specifications, POCO is mainly highlighting the “large f/1.75 aperture” in its 108MP rear camera which also comes with a 3X-in sensor zoom and a (forgettable) 2MP macro lens. The upcoming smartphone release from POCO will be on sale starting August 1st, 4:00 PM on Flipkart and Amazon. Interestingly, the new POCO M6 Plus 5G is already listed on Amazon and a microsite on Flipkart too is live.

Talking about the POCO M6 Plus price, as per the Amazon listing, the phone is revealed to be priced under ₹14,999 for its 8GB + 128GB variant. However, there’s no official announcement yet.

POCO M6 Plus on paper looks decently promising to us. Definitely, nothing extraordinary. We have also heard that it is going to be a rebranded version of Redmi 13 5G. If the phone gets released under 15K price, it would have to fight against the likes of Realme Narzo 70X, CMF Phone 1, Samsung F15 & M15 5G, and the recent hot-selling phone iQOO Z9X 5G. Currently, the lowest price smartphone with Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 is POCO M6 Pro (₹9,999) so the upcoming POCO M6 Plus smartphone has to have some solid USP to stand out.

Another upcoming smartphone launch in August 2024 in the budget segment is the Infinix Note 40X 5G. The phone is confirmed to have an FHD+ 6.78-inch display and a 108MP rear camera unit just like the Infinix Note 40 & Infinix Note 40 Pro 5G. The new smartphone release is also expected to boast a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor which also powers the iQOO Z9 Lite 5G and Lava Blaze X 5G. Colour variants such as Lime Green, Palm Blue and Starlit Black Colour are also confirmed to be available to buy. If the Infinix Note 40X 5G is launched under a 10K price point, it can certainly be a tough competitor with a 108MP rear camera, dual speakers, 120HZ refresh rate and an FHD+ display.

Talking about the Infinix Note 40X 5G launch date in India, it is confirmed to be 5th August 2024 as per the launch banner teased on the official Infinix India website. If we buy into leaks and rumours, the upcoming smartphone release is set to be priced under ₹15000 for 12GB + 256GB variant and under ₹10,000 for its base variant.

Infinix Note 40X 5G looks like a pretty average new smartphone launch under 10K price with MTK Dimensity 6300 chip. By average we mean it's kind of okayish, kind of standard, nothing unusually great. The Dimensity 6300 is basically just a rebranded version of Mediatek Dimensity 6080. Comparing it to Moto G34 which packs in Snapdragon 695 under the same price segment, the Infinix Note 40X 5G’s charm might start to fade away with Moto’s better fps gaming, Dolby Atmos dual speakers and better performance.

Moto Edge 50 is an upcoming smartphone launch in August 2024 that is said to be the world’s slimmest MIL-810H-certified handset. It would be an addition to the Moto Edge 50 lineup which so far comprises of Moto Edge 50 Pro, Moto Edge 50 Ultra and Fusion. The brand is promising 3 OS updates + 4 Security Updates for the upcoming smartphone release. Notably, the Moto Edge 50 features a 50MP camera with a Sony-LYTIA 700C sensor backed by Moto AI features. Do note that the same sensor can be seen in the Moto Edge 50 Fusion as well. Moto AI camera features include AI Action Shot, AI Adaptive Stabilization, Intelligent Auto Focus Tracking, etc. The new smartphone release from Moto will have both wired (68W) and wireless (15W) charging for its 5000mAh battery

Moto Edge 50 is an upcoming smartphone launch on August 1st, 2024 at 12:00 PM IST on Flipkart. The phone is expected to be priced under ₹30,000 and the sale price might be around ₹25000 or under that. The newly launched smartphone will be available to buy on Flipkart, Reliance Digital, Motorola stores and Amazon later on.

We have some high hopes for the Moto Edge 50 especially given Motorola’s history of aggressive pricing. If the Moto Edge 50 is launched at a sale price of around ₹25000 similar to one of its competitors Honor 90 5G (which also comes with the same chip under 25K), we can expect the Moto Edge 50 to go further down in price during some special sales on Flipkart (just like how the Moto Edge 40 Neo was dropped to ₹19,999 during its launch in Flipkart sale). If that happens, the Moto Edge 50 will surely be a good value-for-money mobile deal under 25K.

Moving on to our list of upcoming smartphones in August 2024, we have one of the names that you already may be familiar with. Thanks to its highly appreciated series. Yep, we are talking about the iQOO Z9 series. Get ready to see another lineup of the iQOO Z9S series which will include two devices iQOO Z9S and iQOO Z9S Pro 5G. The current iQOO Z9 Series currently consists of five devices with the Z9 Lite launching last week. While there are barely any details about the iQOO Z9S and iQOO Z9S Pro, one thing we know for sure is that the upcoming smartphone launch is occurring on August 4th. Thanks to the official tweet from Vivo-owned sub-brand iQOO.

iQOO Z9S launch along with iQOO Z9S Pro is said to be on 4th August when the company is going to host a “Sneak peak” session in Coimbatore, Bangalore. As for the iQOO Z9S price in India, there are no official announcements yet.

As much as we would like to anticipate on what the iQOO Z9S can be and our thoughts on it, we sadly do not have any concrete leaks or official announcements on the specifications. We will be updating our thoughts here shortly once we come across any.

iQOO Z9S Pro is yet another anticipated upcoming smartphone launch in the iQOO Z9 S series. The smartphone is likely to be an upgrade over the iQOO Z9S standard version, similar to the iQOO Z7 Pro. The device is spotted on the Geekbench website which further adds to the possibility of the iQOO Z9S Pro launching alongside the iQOO Z9S. As per the listing, the phone would likely feature a 50MP main camera with a Sony LYT-600 sensor. If we buy into the leaks and rumours, the iQOO Z9 S series could also be a rebranded version of the iQOO Z9 Turbo which was launched in China in April this year. The phone has a Snapdragon 8S Gen 3 and comes with some pretty solid features like a 6000mAh battery, 1.5K flat OLED display and 144Hz refresh rate.

There’s no confirmation yet on the iQOO Z9S Pro launch & price in India. But we are expecting the upcoming smartphone release in India to take place on August 4th in the “Sneak Peak event” of the iQOO Z9S series. As per the registration form shared by iQOO, the event reporting time is 10:30 AM. So we can expect the event to likely take place by noon.

Again, the iQOO Z9S Pro barely has any official announcements on its specs or any reliable leaks and rumours for us to judge the upcoming smartphone release. But do not worry, we will shortly update more details here as the event date comes closer and more specs and features gets revealed about the upcoming phones.

In the coming days get ready for a new smartphone launch of the Vivo V40 5G, a mid-ranger from the BBK Electronics-owned phone maker, Vivo. The Vivo V series generally includes 3 devices so for the coming Vivo V40 series, we can expect to see Vivo V40, Vivo V40 Pro and Vivo 40e. The first two have already been teased and confirmed to launch soon. If getting a good camera phone is important to you, you may keep a watch on the upcoming smartphone release of the Vivo V series. The standard version will likely offer 4K video recording on both rear and front cameras, along with an IP68 rating, and 256 GB of internal storage (expandable storage not supported). Connectivity options include 5G, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth v5.4, and NFC. The upcoming phone packs in a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 and a Sony IMX921 sensor. This has a slightly bigger aperture (f/1.56) than the Sony IMX920 sensor (f/1.49) in the iQOO Neo 9 Pro.

The Vivo V40 launch date in India is confirmed on August 7th, 12:00 PM IST on Flipkart. Earlier the upcoming phone was officially teased on Flipkart with a tagline of “coming soon.” Thus the exact launch date of the Vivo V40 is finally out. Talking about the expected price of Vivo V40 5G, it is rumoured to be ₹39,999.

We are looking forward to the upcoming mobile phone launch of Vivo V40 mainly for its camera. Performance in Vivo V standard models has never been quite the highlight. Something which we think Vivo balances much better in its Vivo V Pro models (in this case, the Vivo V40 Pro bringing Mediatek Dimensity 9200+). Overall, the Vivo V series generally feels a bit overpriced usually when they are first launched so it's worth waiting for the phones to age up a bit and get some price cut.

With the launch of Vivo V40 5G, there’s of course an inevitable welcome to the Vivo V40 Pro model. Interestingly, the Pro model is already spotted on the Geekbench platform with a V2347 model number. The device will run on Android 14 OS and leaked to be powered by the Mediatek Dimensity 9200+ chipset. It's a flagship-grade chip by Mediatek that supports Wi-fi 7, UFS 4.0 storage speed, 8K at 30fps recording and is an LPDDR5X memory type.

The Vivo V40 Pro 5G smartphone launch is confirmed on 7th August on Flipkart. While there’s no confirmation on the price, leaks and rumours say that the Vivo V40 Pro can have a price tag of ₹49,999.

Vivo has not officially confirmed if the Vivo V40 Pro is going to bring an MTK Dimensity 9200+. But as per the Geekbench listing, the processor in Vivo V40 Pro has a max clock speed of 3.35GHz which matches to the MTK Dimensity 9200 Plus. The chipset is almost similar to MTK Dimensity 9200 which also powers smartphones like Vivo X90 & X90 Pro and Oppo Find N3 Flip. Undoubtedly, its a flagship chipset but it kind of gets beaten by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. So if we consider MTK Dimensity 9200 chip equivalent to Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 then it makes more sense for Vivo to launch the phone under 40K (base variant) so that it can fight against the likes of Realme GT 2 Pro 5G, Samsung S22 & even iQOO Neo 9 Pro, OnePlus 12R which come with SD 8 Gen 2.

Probably, one of the most buzzing upcoming smartphone launches in August 2024 in India has to be the Xiaomi Mix Flip phone which is already launched in China earlier this month. It is as you may have already guessed, Xiaomi’s first-ever flip foldable phone launch in India and the upcoming phone is set to enter the European markets by mid-August. In India, we can expect the Xiaomi Mix Flip to launch soon possibly by August-end. The new and upcoming mobile phone launch in 2024 is also special as fans have some high expectations from it with its rumoured specs of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, a 50MP camera with 800 primary sensors and a 50MP OmniVision OV60A40 sensor paired with a telephoto lens with up to 2x optical zoom capacity.

The Xiaomi Mix Flip launch in India is likely to occur soon after the launch in Eastern European markets post August 15th, 2024. Though the exact date isn’t known yet. Regarding the price of the Xiaomi Mix Flip, it costs even more than Galaxy Z Flip 6 in Eastern Europe where it is going to launch in mid-August after the 15th. As per reports, it is said to be equivalent to ₹1,20,800.

Xiaomi Mix Flip is still awaiting any official announcements for the India launch. So it is better to wait for any official announcements and confirmation to the Indian market. Nevertheless, we will be sure to update our thoughts here once more details are out.

After the launch of Honor 200 Pro in May this year, get ready for yet another upcoming smartphone launch in August 2024 from the formerly Huawei-owned company, Honor. The Honor Magic6 Pro as per some reliable sources is confirmed to launch in India. The upcoming mobile phone in India is said to boast a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 paired with a special Honor Discrete Security Chip S1 under its hood with MagicOS 8 based on Android 14. For the camera on the back, you get a 50MP primary + 108MP telephoto + 50MP ultra-wide + 50MP selfie shooter. Both the rear and front cameras can shoot 4K video recordings at 60fps and 30fps respectively. The phone maker company is also promising 4 years of major OS updates + 5 years of security updates. On the battery front, you are likely to get a 5600mAh capacity.

Honor Magic6 Pro launch date in India is confirmed to be August 2nd on Flipkart. This is further hinted by an Amazon listing spotted for Magic6 Pro. As per the listing, it seems Honor's flagship device could be bundled with a gift bundle that includes the Honor Watch GS3, Honor Choice X5 Pro Earbuds, a premium phone case and Honor VIP Care+ service.

Honor Magic6 Pro does look pretty solid to us except for one thing and that is its (expected) pricing. Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 performance combined with the good camera quality that we have seen from Honor in the past, the Honor Magic6 Pro can be an attractive phone if it comes under the right price segment as per the Indian markets.

Last but definitely not least on our list of new smartphone launches in August 2024 is the HMD Crest smartphone (formerly known as Nokia). After dropping the “Nokia” branding completely, HMD is once again trying to enter the Indian smartphone market. This time with a “smartphone with good cameras and hands-free selfies” instead of a featured phone. We are talking about the HMD Crest phone which is priced at Rs.12,499 (special launch price) and packs in a Unisoc T760 processor. Now, this is definitely not something to write home about but hold on it gets better. No, no, not on the specs front but on the reparability aspect of the phone. HMD claims that “HMD Crest is designed for self-repairability. That means that battery swaps, replacing a broken charging port, and even replacing the display can all be done at home – all you need is a toolkit and quick tutorial.”

Jean Francois Baril, CEO and Chairman of HMD on the launch of HMD Crest said:

“We need to bring super affordable products to this market. We have all the necessary specs for this segment, and they are competitive. But what’s amazing about these phones (Crest) is the user experience, which is best-in-class for this segment and even adjacent segments.”

Along with HMD Crest, there’s one more new phone launched. It's the Crest Max variant which interestingly has the same chip as the HMD Crest phone. Both phones will run on Android 14.

Do note that HMD is not promising any major OS updates for both phones as of now (only 2 years of security updates) So do consider before buying.
