Netflix one of the biggest streaming giants in the world might hike its price soon. Yes, you read that right, a Netflix Price Hike might be around the corner. After bringing the password crackdown in India and pushing over 100M+ users to turn from free to paid Netflix subscribers, Netflix might have one more bad news in store for its avid watchers & fans. Here’s all that we know so far about the possible Netflix Price Hike in India and other countries.

Netflix Price Hike Soon

Netflix Price Hike Soon? A Little History of Netflix’s Growth

On July 20th, Netflix officially ended its password sharing in India, and at the time, many users expressed their demand for Netflix to bring Netflix ad-supported plans to India. These ad-supported plans cost approximately 7$ per month and are only available in select countries like the US, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, etc.

Netflix launched its ad-supported plans on November 3rd, just a month before the Disney+ Hotstar released its ad-supported plans. However, these ad-supported Netflix plans didn’t prove to be as successful in helping the streaming giant to attract more subscriber growth.

With barely any subscriber growth in the ending quarters of FY22, Netflix brought the ultimate password-sharing crackdown in India on July 20th.

Thanks to this unprecedented move, Netflix subscribers’ growth got a boost of millions of users. Now, after bringing such positive growth in FY23, another challenge seems to have come forward in front of the streaming giant, Netflix. The Netflix ad-supported plan is getting sidelined when compared to its ad-free plans which is affecting the platform’s commercial revenue growth. Following the history of Netflix and other streaming giants, a price hike is a strong possibility to bridge the gap.

Why Netflix Price Hike is a possibility?
  1. As per a report, Netflix ad-free plans are gaining more traction among users as compared to ad-supported plans. Ad-supported plans are a great way to bring in extra commercial revenue for the platform. Hence as a result Netflix might soon introduce a price hike starting with countries like the US.

2. Disney+ Hotstar in the last 12 months has increased its prices twice possibly in an attempt to save the platform’s revenue growth after losing 12.5M users. Netflix on the other hand is still yet to make a price hike move which also somehow adds to the possibility of it happening now anytime soon.

Regardless, you can still save some on your Netflix plans by using Netflix Promo Codes & Offers

Netflix Might Increase its Prices After Hollywood Strike Ends

The 3rd biggest reason why Netflix might increase its prices soon is due to the momentous event happening in the entertainment industry. The Hollywood Industry including renowned names like Tom Cruise, stars of Oppenheimer & Barbie as well and about 65,000 actors & writers are marking a Hollywood strike mainly for 2 reasons: 1) Pay disparity with respect to what the giant studios (Including Netflix, Sony Pictures, and others) make vs what the actors & writers are paid and 2) The growing threat of generative AI in areas such as script-writing in the entertainment industry.

The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) including Sony Pictures, Universal Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Walt Disney Studios, & others as well as broadcast television networks FOX, NBC, & ABC; and streaming giants like Netflix, Amazon, and others might need to revise their pay due to present strike. As a result, there’s a high possibility that Netflix might bring in a price hike.

Do share with us your thoughts on this. What do you think, would Netflix increase its prices?

somewhat true i guess..even when it launched in India in 2016, it was some 500 bucks per month which from that point in time, sounds quite expensive
