In India, Netflix is actively expanding support for UPI Autopay payments. This allows you to pay for your monthly membership with your UPI ID. The UPI Autopay option is available first on Netflix.com and the Netflix Android app for both new and returning users. This is the second method of payment that Netflix offers on its own platform.
Prior to the implementation of UPI AutoPay, Netflix payments in India were limited to Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Diners Club credit and debit cards. You can also sign up with Netflix through a partner like Airtel, Jio, or Vi. The introduction of UPI AutoPay followed a limited test run by Netflix. Switch to UPI AutoPay if you haven’t already enrolled.
Pay Netflix with Google Pay, Paytm, PhonePe, etc
Since this is UPI Autopay, recurring payments are supported, so you won't have to worry about making the payment manually every month. Netflix might well be ahead of the curve in this regard, with India's central bank, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), set to impose new restrictions on recurring transactions on October 1 and card details storage [PDF] on January 1, 2022. Netflix, on the other hand, made no mention of the RBI's restrictions in its statement.
To start or switch to UPI AutoPay for Recurring Payments follow these simple steps.
Step 1 – Go to your Account Page
Step 2 – Select Manage Payment Info
Step 3 – Select the “Change Payment Method”
Step 4 – Select the second payment method “UPI AutoPay”
“Our goal is to give members more freedom and control over their Netflix experience – to watch their favourite stories whenever they want, without ads,” Gunjan Pradhan, Head of Payments, Netflix India, said in a prepared statement. “We hope that the addition of UPI Autopay with our existing payment options – credit and debit cards, as well as Airtel, Vi and Jio – will give our members even more flexibility.”
