What is Jio AirFiber?
Jio AirFiber is a wireless 5G hotspot device that can provide broadband-like ultra high-speed internet without the installation of any wires or cables. Customers need to plug the Jio AirFiber into a power connection, complete the installation process digitally and start using Jio Fiber internet wirelessly. Because customers are not required to install any kind of wires and the connectivity will be provided via air, Jio has named the 5G hotspot service Jio Air Fiber.
Jio AirFiber Benefits & Use Cases
Jio Air Fiber will provide completely wireless high-speed 5G internet
Being an end-to-end wireless solution, there are no wires coming into your house
Jio AirFiber will deliver Giga-bit speed
Jio says that with Jio Air Fiber’s ultra-low latency, multi-player gaming, and cloud gaming will work smoothly
Using Jio AirFiber Home Gateway, customers can host a virtual PC on the cloud. Jio calls this concept Jio Cloud PC.
Homes and places where Jio Fiber cannot be set up will now finally have the option to use Jio Air Fiber rather than relying on local ISP(s).
Jio Air Fiber can also be used commercially
While these benefits of Jio Air Fiber do sound exciting, there are a few important questions that the customers are starting to have regarding the Jio AirFiber.
The first question is will Jio AirFiber come with unlimited data similar to Jio Fiber?
The answer to this question isn’t confirmed. But there’s a possibility that Jio Air Fiber will not come with unlimited data benefits and will work similarly to the JioFi Hotspot device.
The next question that many of us may have is will Jio Air Fiber 5G Hotspot devices will have similar Jio Fiber broadband-like plans.
While the tariff plans of Jio AirFiber are not revealed yet, it is expected that Jio Air Fiber will have similar tariff plans to JioFi 4G Hotspot device, i.e limited data per month plans. Though this is only speculation and we hope Jio brings its exciting unlimited benefit plans to its Jio AirFiber device too.
The last question that Jio Air Fiber interested users may have is can we install Jio Air Fiber in an area where Jio Fiber is not available?
The answer to this question would most likely be yes. Because Jio AirFiber is an end-to-end wireless solution, customers can install it even in areas where Jio Fiber broadband isn’t available. However, note that Jio Air Fiber is a 5G Hotspot device meaning it would require the given area to be Jio 5G enabled.
Jio AirFiber Launch Date
Jio AirFiber as per reports is set to launch sometime this year in 2023 and we can expect the commercial launch of the Jio AirFiber 5G Home Gateway services pitched to Jio Fiber customers soon.
“In the cities where we have deployed 5G, we are already seeing that there is a great increase in consumption, as high as 3-4 times even from a very high consumption base that we have with 4G and even without any change in tariffs. This means that we can anticipate ARPU growth just driven by consumption alone,"
said Kiran Thomas, director of Jio Platforms on Friday, during a presentation showcasing the carrier’s results for the quarter that ended March 2023.
“You can literally offer that service (Jio AirFiber 5G Hotspot) in a matter of hours. We are looking to launch this as soon as we hit critical mass with our 5G rollout," Thomas said. Furthermore, he added that the carrier was targeting 100 million homes through Jio Fiber and Air Fiber services over the next two to three years.
Interestingly, Jio is not the only one working on bringing fixed wireless access (FWA), Airtel is also planning to soon bringin Airtel wireless fiber service.
What are your thoughts on Jio Air Fiber? Do you think it would be able to match the quality of services comparable to Jio Fiber broadband?

It is just like jiofi hot spot device the speed entirely depends on the network availability and strength of the 5G network of the location in which we are keeping this jio airfiber device. So basically it is network dependent not directly connected to the satellite like starlink.
We do not have good internet coverage of jio in my locality. We need to go outside of the house to do a phone call, the Internet speed is more or less 200 to 500kbps per second. I have a broadband connection but it's a private vendor and costly. Will this Jio Air fiber work in area with low network latency?
Since mobile connectivity of Jio is bad inside your premises, most probably AirFiber will give poor connection too. As it will be using those mobile towers only to provide connection. If you get 5G connection at your home, test that out, you will get to know how good is 5G indoors.
For example we get 500-1Gbps on 5G at our location, however some friends have complained of getting very poor speed on Jio 5G at their home (same city).
Your best bet should be to get some Fiber based broadband connectivity, whatever provider is available.
I understand this device will be portable and one connection can move with you, rather than having more than one fixed connection, if you are living in more than one city and are on the move all the time... so one can max out the connection, using the allotted GBs to full advantage ...
