Heeramandi OTT Release Date & Platform (Streaming Starts May 1st)

After making cult movies like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Devdas, Black, Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, Bajirao Mastani, Padmaavat, and Gangubai Kathiawadi, the prominent Indian director and music composer Sanjay Leela Bhansali is all set to make a digital debut with Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. The Heeramandi OTT release date was confirmed by its makers on March 27th at a drone light event show in Mumbai. The eight-episode series is premiering on Netflix on May 1st, 2024.

Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar revolves around the story of courtesans and pre-independence (1940). The series features romantic and political drama and was announced in April 2021. Since then, diverse cine freaks and TV enthusiasts have been waiting for the Heeramandi OTT release date, but now both Netflix and Bhansali Productions have confirmed the Heeramani OTT release. The first song from “Sakal Ban” from Heeramandi OTT is out and it is sung by Raja Hasan with lyrics penned by Sufi lyricist Amir Khusro.

As the Heeramandi OTT release is near, several Bhansali fans are excited to know about the lead actresses and their characters. I remember when I was a four-year kid and my father had taken me to a shoot to watch. He had gone to meet his friends. And he said you just sit here and I’ll just meet my friends and come, and I was sitting in the studio and I thought that this was the place that seemed the most comfortable to me. More than a school, or more than a playground, or more than a cousin’s house. Or anywhere in the world. I thought this is the most beautiful place in the world. And I was watching a cabaret being shot. And they kept doing it again and again and again. But what I actually remember most of that evening is when my father told me, sit here and don’t move, and don’t go anywhere. Today I look back at it and I realise that 24 years I’ve been there. And for that matter the whole life after that, I’ve been dreaming to be here. And I’m glad that I’m stuck here and doing what I have to do. I still as a child remember going to the theatre, and watching that…Those projectors used to have that beam of light that falls on the screen across. And always my mind would never be there. My mind would be here and watching those particles float into it, and say one day my story would float. My characters will float. And that’s how I want my film to be. All these films that I’ve made, I think nine films I’ve made and tenth one is the one I’m making. It’s been 25 years and I hope 25 years more.

"Heeramandi was something that my friend Moin Baig got to me as a 14-page story... 14 years ago. And then finally, when we presented it to Netflix...they loved it. They thought it had great potential to make a mega-series. It's very ambitious, it's very big, it's very vast. It tells you the story of courtesans, pre-independence. They kept music, and poetry, and dance, and the art of living. The politics within the brothels and how to emerge as the winner. It's a difficult one, but I hope we come across with flying colors this time."
