WhatsApp continues to wear the crown as the largest social media messaging app in the world with its 2.6 billion user base. Apart from revenue & growth, a large user base like that also brings massive costs to data storage. Whatsapp users until now could easily backup their unlimited chats to Google Drive. However, the feature would be gone soon. Whatsapp users now can backup their chats to Google Drive only up to 15 GB as Whatsapp ends Google Drive unlimited backup and puts a 15 GB limit.
Facebook acquired WhatsApp in 2014 for $19 billion and since then the messaging app has grown from 400 million users to 2600 million (2.6 billion) in 2023. This makes Whatsapp the largest social media app in the world.
