Garena Free Fire Banned in India among 54 Chinese Apps

The government of India has once again banned some Chinese apps from Google Play Store and Apple App Store. There are 54 in total Chinese apps that were banned on 14th February 2022.

The main reason for this is the same as the earlier one i.e. threat to sovereignty and integrity of India. One of the popular names among these apps is Garena Free Fire Illuminate which is a battle royale game. However, the Garena Free Fire Max is not banned and can be downloaded from the Google Play Store.

Till now, India has banned 273 Chinese Apps including the likes of Garena Free Fire Illuminate, PUBG Mobile, PUBG Mobile Lite, TikTok, AliExpress, Weibo, WeChat, UC Browser, CamScanner, and Shareit. Garena Free Fire is made by a Singapore-based gaming company, but due to noncompliance of norms have faced the ban.

Garena Free Fire may also face ban from other countries due to a lawsuit filed by Krafton (maker of PUBG Battlegrounds India) as per News18’s report. According to Krafton, Garena has copied game opening, airdrop feature, game structure & play, style of weapons/armor/objects/locations, and color schemes from PUBG.

Makers of Garena Free Fire assured its fan base in India that they will be back soon by meeting Indian Government’s policy norms.

Garena Free Fire among the 54 Chinese Apps got banned in India due to the following violations and reasons:

• Getting critical permissions

• Assembling sensitive user data

• Security and Privacy threat to users

• Misusing user data

• Data transmission to hostile country servers

• Espionage and Surveillance activities via camera/microphone/GPS

• Network malfunction

• Threat to security of the State and Defense of India
