Flipkart UPI Payments is coming soon! Flipkart today on February 25th announced the new Flipkart UPI Payments in a banner spotted on the homepage of the Flipkart app. However, the news isn’t as surprising for those who know that launching a UPI payments app has been in the books of Flipkart for some time.

In January, Flipkart was rumoured to have launched Flipkart UPI payments for select 10,000 users. Seems like, after a successful pilot launch, Flipkart is all set to bring its own Flipkart UPI app. Here’s all you need to know about the Flipkart UPI Payments launch in India and its benefits.

Flipkart UPI Announced! Now do UPI Payments with Flipkart UPI

Flipkart UPI Coming Soon!

Amidst Paytm Payments Bank havoc, new players seem to be finding the UPI Payments segment a golden opportunity. Recently, Google confirmed to bring its Google Pay Soundpod in India soon which would compete with Paytm’s Soundbox. Now, Flipkart has announced to bring UPI Scan & Pay, Money transfer and Online UPI Payments on the Flipkart app.

Interestingly, some users are wondering if Flipkart already has PhonePe, so why bring UPI on the Flipkart app? Well, the answer can be found in the separation of ownership between Flipkart & PhonePe that occurred in the year 2022.

Yes, PhonePe is no longer a part of Flipkart. At the time, Flipkart had said that it was not very keen about entering into the payments market. That seems to have changed now as Flipkart since January 2024 has been in rumours to launch its own UPI Payments facility on its app.

Flipkart UPI Payments Features & Benefits

Flipkart UPI is officially announced today. However, it's not known yet as to when the feature will be rolled out for users. Flipkart users as per the announcement banner present on the app will be able to use Flipkart UPI for Scan & Pay, Sending Money, and online shopping. The benefits of using Flipkart UPI are as follows:

  1. Get ₹25 instant discount for the 1st Flipkart order made using Flipkart UPI

  2. Get 10 Supercoins for the first 5 Scan & Pay transactions

These Flipkart UPI benefits are introductory offers that would only be available for first-time users. It would be interesting to see how Flipkart UPI stands the test of time against some strong players like PhonePe itself, Paytm, Google Pay, Cred UPI, etc

So this was all about sharing the announcement of Flipkart UPI on the Flipkart app. While there are not much details out yet, we hope you found this article

Wonder why Flipkart wants to get into this game when PhonePe is already established and both are owned by Walmart. I wonder if it is the same game that the BBK group plays with OnePlus, OPPO, VIVO, iQOO and RealMe!

Even though both PhonePe and Flipkart are owned by Walmart, they're actually separate companies. They don't own any part of each other's business, and they're allowed to compete against each other and other companies in the market.

In the flipkart app, you will find the banner of Flipkart UPI on the homepage itself.
As for finding an option to use it, currently, it is available on some 3rd party apps..for example, in Cred, if I try to pay my CC bill, the option to pay via Flipkart UPI is visible

Flipkart does not own Phonepe. But Walmart owns both flipkart and phonepe. Technically they are "related companies"
