Amazon India's quick commerce is coming soon to challenge Blinkit, Zepto and other quick commerce apps in the country. “The action in quick commerce just can’t be ignored any more” - an Amazon executive close to the development team allegedly informed. While Amazon’s talks with Swiggy to acquire its Instamart business continue, the tech giant is hinting towards launching its very own “Amazon quick grocery & supermarket service” soon in India.
Many e-commerce experts also believe this Diwali, quick commerce will be the real game-changer, not traditional e-commerce.
Amazon Quick Commerce Entry is now Closer
One of the biggest strengths of major quick commerce companies is having a big network of dark stores. Amazon with its large distribution if of course not new to this. As per several reputed sources, it's expected that Amazon’s Quick Commerce launch will go live in the first quarter of 2025.
Nishant Sardana, Amazon’s Category Leader for smartphones and accessories is expected to lead the quick commerce vertical.
For context, Amazon is already delivering grocery & other home utility items through the Amazon Fresh app. However, with Amazon’s entry into the quick commerce space it aims to deliver groceries and other items in under 20-30 minutes.
The idea is to gradually bring it (delivery time) down to 20-30 minutes,” said one of the people aware of the matter. “Amazon still has its next-day customer base for grocery and non-grocery items, but consumer adoption towards 30-minute deliveries has changed the landscape for everyone,” said the source.
“The work (on a quick commerce vertical) has been in motion for some time, but now, there is clarity and a timeline” allegedly said an Amazon spokesperson who is close to the development team of Amazon’s quick commerce project.

Quick Commerce in India is soaring to new heights going from a gross merchandise value (GMV) of just $0.10 billion in FY20 to $3.3 billion in FY24.
The quick commerce trend is also giving tough competition to not only the retail offline market but also traditional e-commerce.
Many quick commerce apps that started only as 10-minute grocery-delivery apps are now entering the electronics space too. Amazon’s entry to quick commerce is at a time when the market is already dominated by players like Zepto who is in the last stage of pulling a $1 billion dollar funding in just a matter of 2 months, while Blinkit is already leading the space by holding the maximum market share and Swiggy Instamart giving a close fight to Blinkit by processing over 5.5L orders a day.
Flipkart, Amazon’s biggest ecommerce rival also launched Flipkart Minutes earlier.
Amazon's quick commerce launch in India comes with tough challenges, especially needing the green light from its US headquarters, as India would be the first market for this new vertical globally.
