Internet firms ask for Aadhaar to provide services
BENGALURU: Internet companies are now making Aadhaar —the 12-digit unique identity number—mandatory for customers to avail their services. Amazon has asked customers to upload their Aadhaar numbers to track lost packages, while Bengaluru-based car rental platform Zoomcar has said it won’t accept bookings without Aadhaar as proof of identity.,

They cannot force this. Why do we share Adhaar other than banks and govt institutes
In India, even your local grocery store can force you to show Aadhaar before you can buy your daily milk.

Amazon or at-least ATS has now implemented compulsory ID proof for all orders of 3000 and above.
and all prepaid orders too. or so i could see in the latest app that the ATS vendor/ third party guy was carrying.
May be they had it for a while but he said recent change. to help tie loose ends if in case investigations are ever required. @desidude2013

Simply de-activate the Aadhar/s of those Hindus ordering things without first ‘producing’ four kids.

this can only be justified in case of wallets/ financial transactions fraud investigation, but NOT as a generic measure.
so @jackpison’s case was not an isolated incident after-all.
The problem (besides the obvious case of buyer side frauds increasing exponentially) is that now over half (rough guesstimate, could be as high as 70%) the work of Amazon’s India ops. are outsourced or delegated to third-party staffing partners.
this happens across the board: be it contact centre (internally they call it direct site versus indirect site), catalogue/listing teams (the people supposed to create all those 5-6 million listings on-site (sometimes as a PAID service taken by the seller), the fake/third-party ATS hubs or the software/ internal tools designing teams.
sorry to say this, but a lot of these young staff are so raw or from such economic backgrounds that they talk in the same way a PDS (ration) shop keeper or staff of telecom companies talk.
It becomes very normal for them to assume things and talk of UDAI ‘card’ just like ‘PAN number’. They are so uneducated or unaware at times that they aren’t even aware that private entities can not demand the copy of the actual card (which has lot more detail apart from the number).
In recent weeks, one such stupid CSA asked me to ‘upload your Aadhar card’ to our site Amazon.com and had to be corrected that she works for dot in. later her lead almost accepted that theres was an indirect site. and this was after she explicitly understood that Delhivery couriers had returned the parcel from the pick-up city itself and marked it as ‘cancelled by seller’. Item was amazon fulfilled.
even off-line Sulabh International outlets demand Aadhar. #comingSoon
