[Updated on 27/03/2019] 1. What is Karma? Karma is a non-monetary reward you receive for giving your precious time to the site. It is a measurement of how much other Dimers trust you and how helpful you have been to the community. Karma is measured in ‘Karma points’ which is visible on each and every user Profile page, and also, right below the username and display picture on every post and topic on DesiDime. In simpler words, Karma denotes your contribution to the entire community and how you have helped people save money. (+Note+: We also have a monetary reward called Dimes, for contributing to the community. You can know more about them here.) 2. How can I earn Karma points? On signing up with us, you get 20 Karma points from DesiDime. After that, the best way to gain Karma points is to keep posting great deals and coupons, starting interesting and useful discussions, and helping members of the community, in general as well as in making informed and best shopping decisions. You will not get Karma points on simply posting deals or comments; they should be truly worthy, helpful and valuable to the community. You might also gain Karma points by up-voting others’ posts. +Note+: Don’t try to acquire Karma points. Post great deals, help others find great deals or guide them in buying the right stuff, and let Karma points simply be a reminder of your legacy. 3. How can I give Karma points? You can start giving Karma points only after you become a Deal Cadet (explained in Question 4). To give Karma points to a fellow Dimer: Check below their username and display picture on their post; click on the plus sign besides the third icon and figure displayed there. A popup overlay will open, where you have to add a comment and select whether you want to give the Dimer ‘Positive Karma’ or ‘Negative Karma’, before clicking on ‘Give Karma’. 255103NqFGBk0 Other Dimers will vote and comment on your topics/ posts/ deals to gain Karma. Who gets Karma points from you is totally your decision, but we recommend you to be fair, keeping the best interests of the community in mind. However, once you have given Karma to a user, you can’t give Karma points to him/ her again until you have given Karma to 14 other users. Also, you cannot give Karma to yourself. How people treat you is their Karma; how you react is yours. 4. How many Karma points can I give to someone? Your Karma Giving Power depends on your Rank. Ranks are titles given to users at various stages of their participation in the community. Your Rank is decided by the Karma points you have earned so far. Everyone starts out as a Deal Newbie with 20 Karma points received from DesiDime on signing up, and then as you receive Karma points from other users and reach new thresholds you move up the Ranks. E.g. A Dimer needs 100 Karma points to become a Deal Cadet; 1000 Karma points to become a Deal Subedar, and so on and so forth. Currently there are 11 Ranks to reach out for. Here’s a table showing the 11 Ranks, how many Karma points are needed to reach each of them and what is the Karma Giving Power of each: 25510315676dt So, basically, the Karma you’ve earned dictates how much Karma points you can give to others. (You will be able to view all these Ranks on your Profile page. You can visit your Profile page by clicking on your username in the top right corner of the site, after signing in.) 5. Who can give Negative Karma points? Negative Karma points can only be given when you reach Rank 5 (i.e. when you become a Deal Major). Your Rank and your Karma are a mark of your contribution and your reputation in the community. So use them wisely. As they say- With great power comes great responsibility. 6. Why would someone give me Negative Karma? You may receive Negative Karma for re-posting, spamming, self-promotion, being offensive, posting topics in wrong forum, posting referral links, posting deals from worthless sites, using inappropriate title for the deal/ topic, starting fights in the forum, and other such reasons. Basically, you are likely to receive Negative Karma if you do not follow basic forum etiquette, and if you threaten the decorum of the community. 7. Should I worry about Negative Karma points? What if someone decides to spoil my reputation? Each and every Negative Karma point given requires a well defined, valid reason and it is moderated. Thus, there should be no fear of receiving unfair Negative Karma by someone. Don’t worry, good karma always stays with you. +Note+: Receiving Negative Karma may lead to going down the Rank levels. Also, Admins and Moderators do not need to be Rank 5 and above to give Negative Karma. So beware those who do not follow the rules, someone is always watching. 8. Can I beg for Karma? Should I ask for Karma? Karma is earned, not begged for. Begging for Karma is a sure way to get negative Karma from Admins and/ or other members. Repeatedly begging for Karma points can lead to blocking your account from receiving or giving any further Karma points, and even account suspension eventually. This also applies to any user, who is found asking for Positive Karma through Personal Messaging or other means. 9. I don’t understand anything. How does it all matter? As we said, Karma points only show your reputation in the community. If you don’t understand anything yet, simply be nice to the community, contribute through good deals and helpful insights, and the community will take care of the rest. Good Karma always pays. 10. What happens after I reach Rank 10? Nirvana.

So from Subedar onwards, promotions happen at (previous promotion x 2 + 1000) karmas?

Level 6-10 are merely impossible considering the Karma Power. Even Admins have ly KP of 50 https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif

Karma giving power has increased as of 21st December, 2014. Exactly double the values mentioned in the table above.

Why can’t we see the feedback of a person? I just see the karma points and people leave negative and positive karma for no reason which is so wrong. I have got karma from people with whom I have never had any deals and plus I don’t even know who left me karma. That’s why I don’t believe in all the karma points and the status of a newbie or senior member. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_rolleyes.gif

I don’t agree with this karma system as people who have given me karma (whether positive or negative) haven’t traded with me. It doesn’t make a person trusted if he/she has a high karma. Please change this system as I’ve seen so many people get free karma by giveaways and they beg for it too.

What I dont like here is “do not ask for karma.. earn it”

But many new bie’s don’t know how to give karma…. they just go through the post and say VU or thnx.. they do not know that they can give karma by clicking on user karma number..

I think it is okay If we put a statement “GIVE KARMA IF U LIKED THE POST ALOT” at the end of post…

Any suggestions………

Some told me that When someone gives karma then it is subtracted from his own karma. Please clarify this.

I am also here since 6 years but rank will change with contribution to community. So don’t get upset.

Just contribute more if want higher rank or be happy with what you have.
