Hey guys,
We are completely re-vamping the Forum design on Desktop and M-site after around 5 to 6 years… Its one of the major change which will get rolled out to you in next couple of hours…
Why such a big change suddenly?
To be very frank, its not a sudden change and we have ourselves used the new layout/design for past 1.5 months before rolling out to all… And yes we have been contemplating such a change from a long time…
The forum page in its current form was very unhelpful for New Dimers or new visitors to the website… With around 8-9 sticky, the sub-forums etc.. all the real deals were very much down and was lot of inconvenience for New Dimers to figure out the deals.
Also many never figured out how to see Latest deals in forums etc.. So we are hoping the new design will solve some of the pressing UX problems.
Why no votes? Why only hotness?
Over the last one year, we have worked a lot on Hotness algorithm and we will continue to evolve it to push better and better deals up the chain irrespective of simply “votes”
In current Forum page, 5 green smileys would show up even for deal having 40 votes vs one having 6 votes… It was never intuitive enough to understand the hotness of the deal..
With hotness, we are trying our best to automatically show the best deals on very top and Hotness currently is not depndent on what your “best friend” in the community thinks.. it considers clicks, views and much more…
While moving away from smileys may feel a bit odd, you will strongly feel the difference after few days or a week.
(Don’t forget to Try out HOT, NEW tabs in the latest design)
Easier switching of Forums
We understand many users would like to switch between forums and we have tried it to make it as much easier as we can.
Improved Search
If you are searching for deals, you wont find discussion clutter when looking for deals.
Choose your layout and it applies site-wide
If you prefer to see deals in a Grid format, simply select that layout and same layout will apply in Home page, Forum page, Search page etc..
If you prefer a less image heavy Text layout, We have got you covered too.
Hope you guys enjoy the change… While it may become slightly difficult initially (specially for hard core users out there), We can assure you that you will appreciate the change as time passes by
As always feel free to share your comments and we are keeping a close eye at your feedback as well as Data which we gather.
Cheers!
Sorry but I am unable to find the option to post a new deal in Hot deals section in mobile web browser.
Can anyone help me please?
Okkk..got it it’s the + icon on top of page
New layout…Its utterly butterly confusing
Terrible layout and design..app was very confusing after the update so switched to desktop site. Now desktop site is the same ..ugghh.
There should be an option to move to back to old layout.
i regularly visit DD just because it’s a forum.. and not like those other weird sites who stuff it full of ads…anyone has any other sites in suggestion which has a forum ?
I want those animated emojis back
What was the problem in that old design??
This design is little bit confusing
I don’t really understand the reason for opening this thread when they don’t really care our opinion.
I feel the meaning of FORUM is lost here.
Old layout was far better than this. This is not user friendly.
Old Hot Deal Forum was better than new look.
Hey guys,
Thanks for the feedback… We would like you to give 3 options and help us select what you find is better:
Objective is to bring back the forum feel, make text layout as default since many of you like the forum feel, make it more compact and reduce white space, giving you same ability to glance things faster…

Old layout was far better than this rollback old again
Old UI was really good, new one is cumbersome.
Guys don’t quote the whole message/post. Tag admin instead.
Option 2 and 3 feel more structured but somehow feel Option 2 would be better preferred for me.
Option 3 has the hotness indicator dominating the deal worth, which is what it’s supposed to do anyways, but the other content seems too sidelined.
Option 2 has the hotness indicator on the right corner and is less distracting.
I think it would be interesting to do a simple A/B test between Option 2 and 3 and see which one turns out to be more pleasing to the users.

Third option seems just ok from the given options. Can you please limit the scroll and add page numbers. Scrolling the page is eating up the RAM.
I still prefer old layout. Please provide option to switch back to old layout for sometime.
@admin
I prefer the 3rd option as well.
BTW are there any reasons to not have a option like “go back to old version”? Old dimers can stay with the old one and new ones or those who don’t care get the latest layout which is something that your teams prefers as well(assuming this as you said you guys are using it from last 1.5 months)
yes, we dont want to go back to old layout as we want to provide options like adding hotness directly from the forum page itself etc..
And unfortunately, its not possible with old table format layout..
PS: even I feel that the older version was lot friendlier. Why fix something that’s not broken?
To be very frank, its not a sudden change and we have ourselves used the new layout/design for past 1.5 months before rolling out to all… And yes we have been contemplating such a change from a long time…
Noted
The forum page in its current form was very unhelpful for New Dimers or new visitors to the website… With around 8-9 sticky, the sub-forums etc.. all the real deals were very much down and was lot of inconvenience for New Dimers to figure out the deals.
Maintain max of 3 stick posts and rest in a separate tab of some sort
Also many never figured out how to see Latest deals in forums etc.. So we are hoping the new design will solve some of the pressing UX problems.
Why not? Aren’t the posts by default sorted by time of last comment? So by default any users will see the latest posted deals as soon as he reaches the hot deals section isn’t it?
If new users are unable to navigate to hot deals section from the home page in a friendly manner then why not rather fix the flow from home page to All Deals (hot deals)?
i would prefer the 1st optio to give some sort of old layout design.
As I said above, Hotness is flop idea bcoz it takes time to update. I would be more happy if u guys add option of Switch to old view.
I will manage with any option Old or New. Will be happy in har haal..
I protest against this design.
Its not worth it.
I condemn this step by desidime without taking forum members prior consent on this design.
I just dont feel like comfortable in it. Earlier style was simple you could have added some new buttons on it but this one just killed the forums section and the way we used to connect easily.
Thumbds down to those involved in suggesting this idea.
Give me the option to be on the old design for like forever.
Is it really worth replacing the entire layout for “hotness”? What does it mean anyways? Some good deals are at 0°. Worthless threads (like this) are at 2392°
Its like I already bought ladies underwear ( already paid to developer for new UI ) so I have to wear it whether m gents or ladies.
Would prefer option 1 with the top portion to be removed (which details on the steps to navigate through the hot deals section)
@admin
There’s hardly any visible difference in the given 3 layouts.
3rd one I see that the hotness Meter is in between however 1&2 I can’t spot any difference. Seems I need to get my eyes checked.
Offtopic suggestion, please provide us option to upload product pic directly while posting a new hot deal.
This new theme and layout is messy, old one was decent could have changed just colour scheme and few basic changes.
User backlash is common and expected for any big UI changes. Even facebook’s newsfeed, timeline, chat, check-in’s, game invitations…..all these changes faced strong negative reaction and negative comments when introduced. But now we used to them & can’t imagine without these. Like zuckerberg, I hope @admin
well researched & confident enough before introducing this. @ithehappy “Facebook is not broken before introducing newsfeed”.
