Understanding Dimes
9. What are Dimes?
We wanted to give recognition to our Dimers, who make such sincere efforts to share the best deals they find on the internet with everyone, and also to encourage our new users to experience the joy of sharing. Hence, these Desi Dimes (mainly known as Dimes) were introduced.
Dimes are a token of appreciation for contributing to the community. They can be considered as a new currency which you can use to buy goodies from our Gift Shop.
1 Dime = 1 Rupee
10. Cool! So how can I earn Dimes?
Contribute to the DesiDime community and you will be able to grab Dimes daily.
You can earn Dimes for the following activities:
Register/ Sign Up with us (for a limited period) – 50 Dimes
Follow us on Facebook – 10 Dimes
Follow us on Twitter – 10 Dimes
Follow us on Google+ – 10 Dimes
Post a new deal or offer that is not a repost – 1 Dime (Hot Deals, Coupons, Freebies forums)
Post a new coupon – 1 Dime
Post a new deal that gets promoted to front page – 20 Dimes
You can also check out how to increase your Dimes here.
11. Fine, so what after I’ve accumulated a billion of them? How to redeem them?
Congratulations on becoming a billionaire! To redeem your hard-earned Dimes, log in to your account and you will find ‘Gift Store’ on the topmost bar of the page, click on it. Here you can choose any store you wish to shop from; browse and select a product for yourself. Then click on ‘Redeem’ (right above the list of stores), fill out the form given and submit it. Your gift will be delivered to your doorstep.
Please make sure you have sufficient Dimes to purchase the desired product.
However, if you are feeling a little generous, you can be a hero and donate your Dimes to charity. At present we have two agencies CRY and UNICEF, where you can make a donation. Every time anyone donates Dimes to these organisations, we add 10% additional funds to the amount, from our side.
Please note that minimum 500 Dimes are required to make a donation, otherwise it becomes expensive for these organisations to process it.
12. Are there any limitations on redeeming Dimes?
To redeem your first gift, you need to have minimum 200 Dimes. Future redemptions have no limitations.
13. Can I redeem my Dimes for hard cash?
Sorry, but that option is not available, however you can get the next best thing… Free gifts!
14. I submitted a deal but my Dimes aren’t increasing?
To maintain the quality of deals submitted and for the benefit of other members of the community, we have enforced a cap on the number of Dimes, every member can earn daily, based on their Rank (discussed here). Once you have reached the cap on a given day you will not be able to earn more Dimes. However, it does not prevent you from earning 20 Dimes in case your deal reaches the front page.
Here’s a list of members of which rank can earn up to how many Dimes in a day:
Deal Newbie – 3 Dimes Maximum
Deal Cadet – 5 Dimes Maximum
Deal Subedar – 10 Dimes Maximum
Deal Captain and above – 15 Dimes Maximum
Also note that Dimes are only credited for posting a topic in the following sections:
Hot Deals – Online (All Current Deals)
Daily Coupons Update
Local Deals and Offers
Coupons (Coupon Codes)
Hot Deals – In Store (Offline Offers)
Freebies and Contests (Free Stuff)
15. Hey, I woke up today and somebody stole my Dimes?
Relax; nobody can steal your Dimes. When a faulty post is deleted, one Dime is deducted from the balance (which the user received for submitting that topic). Posts are only deleted if they are duplicate or invalid, contain referral links, etc. You can read more about the reason why a post is deleted in Question 23.
16. I can also see some users with negative Dimes. What does this mean?
A user displaying negative Dimes indicates that the person already redeemed their Dimes before the deletion of duplicate posts took place. When their duplicate posts were deleted the Dimes balance ended up in negative.
Creating A New Post
17. I want to submit a topic, how to go about it?
We really appreciate that you want to spread the joy of sharing. Creating a new topic on DesiDime is pretty simple.
Go to Forums > All Forums and select the appropriate forum and click on the ‘Post a new Topic’ button, located right above the list of topics, on the right hand side. This will open up the new topic page, wherein you need to enter a relevant title for your topic; add price, retail price and discount percentage; select category; give detailed information on the topic; and add tags. You can also select and add certain products to automatically show price comparison for your deal.
Make sure you cover all necessary points about the deal/ coupon and then click ‘Post Topic’. Voila! You’re done!
Similarly, you can also use the Submit Deal button, found on our Home Page, on the right hand side. You will have to scroll down the page to find it.
To submit a coupon, use the Submit Coupon button, which is found right below the Submit Deal button on Home Page. You can also go to Coupons > All Coupons (bottom right corner of the drop down menu) and use the form given on the right hand side of the Coupons page to submit a coupon.
18. Is there anything I need to keep in mind while submitting a deal?
The main thing to keep in mind is to provide the correct URL of the deal, and enter the appropriate details of the product/ service and its pricing.
Also, while posting a deal or coupon, you may sometimes get an error which reads “Sorry but the domain xyz.com is currently blocked. Hence, you cannot submit the deals for the same.” This is because we have banned certain websites on DesiDime, and if you post any deal or coupon
from these sites and use their URL, the system will not allow you to post the topic.
Apart from this, to maintain uniformity in the forum and to make accessing deals more convenient, we request every member to take the following steps mentioned here.
We appreciate your cooperation.
19. Why are those URLs/ websites blocked? Where can I see the list of sites that are banned on DesiDime?
Basically, the error message appears for our competitor sites.
However, kindly note, we do not display any such blocked websites list on the forums (for internal reasons). We have instead designed the system in such a way that you will end up getting the error message for links from all those websites.
20. I want to create a topic besides deals, offers or coupons. How do I make sure I am in the correct forum?
As mentioned earlier in Question 2, each forum has a short description that will help you easily identify where to create your post. For example, if you need help comparing/ deciding/ buying a product, you can make use of Deal Baba if you want to have a light, casual discussion about something with friends, you have Dost and Dimes section; if you need to share your experience with a particular product, you have Product Reviews forum; express how you feel for a store on the Store Reviews forum, etc.
Go to Forums > All Forums, to have a look at all the forums currently live on DesiDime.
Always post in the correct forum to avoid inconvenience to others and to get quick responses to all your queries.
21. Can I make any changes to my posts or topics?
Sure, Dimers can edit their posts and topics submitted by them within 24 hours of posting. However you will not be able to edit posts in a sticky topic.
To edit a post, click on “Edit Post”, located at the bottom right corner of your post/ topic. This will allow you to make changes to your post/ topic, and once you are happy with it, click “Save Changes” to save and update it.
However, kindly note that, the edit option is available only for up to 24 hours, after which users cannot edit their posts. Also, users cannot delete a topic once submitted by them. This is done for security reasons.
If you want to delete your post, you may notify the admins/mods or simply comment in the topic and we will do the needful.
To notify the admins/ mods about your topic or a topic posted by any other user: Check right below the title of the topic; you will find a few options: Here, click on ‘More’ and select ‘Alert Admin’ from the drop down menu.
22. I see many people adding images in their posts and even writing in different fonts. How can I use different fonts and images in my posts?
The different fonts you see are created with the help of short codes called HTML. Even posting images is done with the help of these simple codes. You can find out how to do it yourself with ease here.
Also, we have a dedicated topic on posting images here by Dimer neo479.
23. Help!! The monster ate my post…
Well, we don’t have any monsters in our forums, so don’t worry. A post/ topic is deleted (or edited) mainly because of the following reasons:
· Duplicate topic or re-post (the most common).
· Violation of Rules.
· Referral links in post
· Spamming in forums.
· Posting objectionable content
· Abuse in forums
· Third party links
· Post having URL of websites blocked on DesiDime.
· Posting shortened URLs (links).
· eBay deals with seller feedback less than 50%.
· Posting same deal/ topic in different forums.
· Posting in wrong forums even after repeated notices.
If you feel your post has been deleted, even though none of the above reasons apply to it, you can always ask us for help in the Questions, issues and suggestions for DesiDime forum.
24. Who determines a re-post? Are there any specific criteria?
Dimers receive Dimes for posting new deals, so needless to say we get a lot of deals posted on a daily basis. We believe in first come, first served. The Dimer, who posts a unique deal, first, is the one entitled to the reward, and so s/he gets his/ her rightful Dime for it. The details about how to differentiate between a post and a repost are given here
You can avoid reposts by making use of the search option before submitting any deal. We suggest you to at least search ‘twice’ to be absolutely sure. You should search using the product name, relevant keywords, and also the store URL (link). When you are posting coupons, search with the coupon code itself.
25. Ok, I am really sure I posted my deal before the other user. I want proof of the exact time of his/ her post.
To know the exact time at which a deal was posted: check the top left corner of the first (post) box below the title of the topic, you will find a clock-like icon. Hover your cursor on the text next to this icon and you will be shown a small box with complete time details mentioned in the following format:
Day, DD-Month-YYYY, hh:mm:ss +0530
Note: Since, we use the Greenwich Mean Time format, hence +0530 is mentioned at the end. So, add it up and you know the Indian Standard Time at which the topic was posted.
26. Hey, I want to share my views on a particular product/ website, how to do it?
That’s a great thought! We have two dedicated forums for this: 1. Product Reviews (where you can express your views about any product) and 2. Store Reviews (where you can share your experience with any store).
You can also write a review for a store on their store page. Go to Coupons > Top Stores or All Coupons (bottom right corner of the drop down menu); select the desired store and click on ‘Write Review’, located on the sub-header bar. Here, you need to give a title for your review, give a star rating to the various aspects mentioned about the store, and write your experience in detail.
We ask you to give a star rating out of 5 for the following parameters of the store: Product and Service Pricing, Shipping and Packaging, Returns and Replacement Policy, Chance of Future Purchase, Customer Service, and Website’s Ease of Use. Your overall 5 star rating is an average of all the above.
27. Why has my deal been Voted Down? I will spoil the face of the person who did it!
To know why your deal/ offer was voted down, go to your deal page, and right below the title of your post, you will find some green or red coloured flame-like smileys; hover on it and you will be able to see the reason/s for which your deal was voted down.
On our part, we ask our Dimers to choose one of the following reasons, when they are voting down a deal:
- Repost
- Self Promotion
- Referral Link
- Better price elsewhere
- Product not good/ not worth the price
- Other reasons
- Bad Reviews for website/ seller
- Invalid/ user specific coupon/ deal
When a Dimer chooses ‘Other reasons’, he is asked to state in short what the other reason for down-voting the particular offer is.
Other possible reasons for which a deal gets voted down in our forums are:
1. It is from a worthless/ unreliable site.
2. The deal is posted in the wrong section/ forum.
3. The OP (original poster) of the deal is continuously posting “Please vote up and make this deal
FPD”.
4. An inappropriate title has been used for the deal.
5. The deal/ review has been posted using a fake profile. This is more specific to reviews.
6. The OP is acting lame or starting fights in his/her topic.
7. The OP is spamming, especially for Dimes.
8. The product mentioned in the deal carries Seller/ Dealer warranty rather than a Manufacturer warranty.
9. The store offers poor customer service.
Please note, all this is to make sure that the deals and coupons that do get voted up are truly great in every sense of the word. For, we Dimers, as a breed, are very fussy about getting the highest value for our money while shopping.
User Profile and Settings
28. I don’t like this default display picture; can I change it to something better?
Definitely. You can change your display/ profile picture (also called avatar) to any image of your choice in few simple steps. And yes, did we mention, we support GIFs, too?
Once you log in, you will see your username in the top right corner of the screen: hover your mouse on it and click ‘Settings’ from the drop down menu. You will be taken to the ‘Edit Profile’ page, where you can upload a new avatar. You can either upload a file directly from your computer or upload via Gravatar (especially helpful in cases where direct uploading returns error).
If, for any reason, you are unable to upload the image, you may try the following steps:
1. Make sure your browser has JavaScript enabled.
2. Keep your image size to minimum possible. (Try uploading a small-sized image. If it works, then problem was with the image size).
3. Log off. Clear off your complete cache and then log in. Try changing display picture now.
4. Try on a different browser.
5. Upload via Gravatar option.
29. Can I change my username and registered email id?
Take your time while choosing a username, because we do not allow Dimers to change it, for security reasons.
We do, however, allow you to change your registered Email ID. After logging in, check the top right corner of the page: go to ‘Your Username’ > Settings (from drop down menu); and you are taken to the ‘Edit Profile’ page. Then click on the ‘Sign-in-option’ tab on the left hand side of the page. Here, you can sign-in with your alternate email accounts through Facebook or GooglePlus.
30. How can I change my account password?
Log in to your account; go to the top right corner of the page; hover the mouse on your username, click ‘Settings’. Then click on ‘Reset Password’ tab located on the left hand side of the page.
Type in your new password, confirm and save changes.
Setting and Receiving Deal Alerts
31. Do you guys provide email alerts for deals?
Yes, all you have to do is sign up with us and voila, you are added to the DesiDime Newsletter/ email subscribers list.
However, if you voluntarily opted not to receive daily deal alerts via email while signing up with us, or if for some reason you are not receiving the daily emails from us, then go to Coupons > All Coupons; scroll down this page and you will find the ‘Subscribe’ section on the right hand side of the page. It is between the ‘Recent Trending Deals & Offers’ section and the ‘Contribute to Community’ section. Type your email in the box provided and click on Subscribe, and you will start receiving daily deal alerts in your Inbox from us.
You can also follow us on various major social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Google+, and you can also get notifications and stay up-to-date with all the hot and happening deals through our mobile phone apps available for Android and iOS.
32. Are there other ways in which I can receive deal alerts from DesiDime?
Sure, there are. Following are the ways, in which you can receive specific Deal Alerts through us:
Deal Alerts For Personalised Deal Alerts
We understand that you may be interested in certain types of deals more than other deals. May be you only prefer all the FPDs for shoes, or all book deals from Amazon or you only care for Mobile phone deals with a 10+ rating, or for all deals that have the words Buy1Get1/ BOGO in them. In this case, you can use Deal Alerts.
To set a specific Deal Alert/s of your choice, go to Deals > Deal Alerts; scroll down this page and click on ‘Let’s Set A Deal Alert’. You will be taken to a page where you have to enter a name for your deal alert, type in the keywords you want to follow, select a rating, forum, category, and store you want to keep an eye on. Then you can select whether you want to receive the alerts via Email or Chat and you can choose the frequency of the alert. Click ‘Save’ and you will now receive deal alerts customized as per your needs.
You can set a number of different alerts with Deal Alerts. Just click on ‘New Deal Alert’, which you will find on the right hand side corner of the Deal Alerts page, after you have created at least one alert.
Also, once created, you will be able to pause these alerts, change their frequency and change where you want to receive these alerts, with a single click. You can also edit or delete them or see matching results for them, whenever you like.
Note: ‘Immediately’ in Alert Frequency means you will be notified about the offer the moment it goes live.
Whatsapp Deal Alerts
We realize how much it hurts to miss a truly good deal or coupon just because you could not keep constant vigil in the forums. So we came up with a way to keep all our members updated about at least the unmissable offers of the day.
Thus, if you are one of those people, who feels actual physical pain on missing a great offer, sign up for the DesiDime Whatsapp Deal Alerts and get three of the must-grab deals of the day directly on Whatsapp, daily.
To sign up, go to Deals > Whatsapp Deal Alerts, click on Subscribe and add the DesiDime Official number, shown on the page, to your mobile phone contact list. Now when you open your Whatsapp and refresh your contact list, you will find DesiDime Official in it. Type ‘Start’ and send it on this number.
To unsubscribe from Whatsapp Deal Alerts, type STOP and send to the DesiDime Official number.
Channel Alerts
As the community grew, we found that some of our members were so good at this deal-hunting job that they could run their own show. Thus, Channels, and consequently Channel Alerts were born.
A Channel is a Dimer’s own little platform, through which they send their subscribers the deals and offers, they think are the best and worth grabbing. A number of our experienced Dimers are currently hosting different types of Channels; you can subscribe to any of them if you wish to.
To subscribe to a Channel, go to Deals > All Channels (bottom right corner of the drop down menu). Here, you will find the list of all the currently active Channels on DesiDime run by various Dimers with a short description about what each Channel has to offer and a Subscribe button. Select a Channel/s, you are interested in, click on Subscribe. In case, this is your first Channel Subscription, you will be asked to verify your mobile number. Once that is done, whenever you click on Subscribe, you will be asked to choose how you want to receive the alerts, via Email or SMS. That’s it. Now, you will start receiving deals from your favourite Dimers on a regular basis.
If you want to unsubscribe from a Channel, go to your Profile page (click on your username in the top right corner of the page). Scroll down this page a little, and you will find the ‘Subscribed Channels’ section. Click on the Channel you want to unsubscribe from; you will be taken to the profile page of the owner of the Channel, where you can click on the ‘Unsubscribe’ button to stop receiving alerts in future.
Or you can go to ‘Your Username’ > Settings, and click on Subscription tab on left hand side of the page. Here, you will see your list of subscriptions; click Unsubscribe.
33. Since Channels are run by users of the site, can I start my own Channel, too?
Sure, you can. However, you need to have minimum 100 Karma points (explained here) to be eligible to create your own Channel. To know more about how Channels work and how to create them: Go to Deals > All Channels (bottom right corner of the drop down menu) and read the details given on the right hand side of the page.
34. Do you send Price Alerts, too? I found something that I like, but it was available at a bigger discount yesterday. I want it at that same price!
To avoid such disappointments in future, you can use Price Alerts, which will notify you whenever the product is available at the price you want it.
To set a Price Alert, go to Price Comparison > Price Alerts (green coloured tab in the drop down menu). Scroll down this page and click on Let’s Find Your Favourite Product; select the category your product falls in like Mobile Phone, Tablet, Camera etc.; then select the product you want. You can use the filters given on the left hand side of the page. Once you find the product you are interested in, click on it; and you will be taken to a page showing the current price and store it is available at. (You will also be able to see a chart of its price history, a little down this page.)
Click the Price Alert button, enter the price at which you want it and click Set Alert. Now you will receive an alert via email whenever there is a price drop on this product.
To set more alerts, go to Price Comparison > Price Alerts. Type the product you want in the search box given below the header bar of the site. Select the product you want, and click set alert.
Note: Currently, you can set alerts for only Electronics and Fashion products only.
You can edit or disable your alerts using the buttons given in the bottom right corner of your existing alerts.
Community Features
35. What is the difference between Front Page Deals, Featured Deals, and Popular Deals?
1. Front Page Deals: These are the deals that have surpassed the rest in popularity and worth to make it to our front page and are considered to be the best (till another better deal comes along to take their place). As a reward, the original poster (OP) of the deal is credited with 20 Dimes (in addition to the regular 1 Dime) for discovering and sharing such a gem with everyone.
2. Featured Deals: Sometimes a deal is good or way above average but not superb enough to make it to the front page yet. In such a case, the deal is promoted under the Featured Deals & Offers section, found on the Home Page. Please note that no extra dimes are given to the OP, if a deal is featured in this section. The aim in featuring a deal is to prevent it from getting lost in the ever growing flow of topics and to keep it easily accessible for all members. This also makes sure that the original poster’s efforts are not wasted. Sometimes, there are chances that a Featured Deal, turns out quite worthy and becomes popular enough to be called an FPD, then the OP gets 20 Dimes for it.
3. Popular Deals: All recent deals that are being liked/ discussed by a lot of members, at a time, are displayed on the Popular Deals page. You will find them in Deals > Popular Deals or you will find them on the right hand side of the Home Page, below the Featured Coupons section.
This is again to make life easier for those users who are unable to stay on forums for long. So, whenever they come online they can easily find the Popular Deals without having to search through the forums. You might see all above average deals eventually in this category at some or the other point of time. No additional Dimes are credited for this either.
36. What are Featured Coupons and Recent Trending Offers and Deals?
Featured Coupons: You will find these on the right hand side of the Home Page. Featured Coupons are the top coupons of the day, currently trending among shoppers.
Recent Trending Offers and Deals: These are the most recent offers and deals, which have become popular among the users in a very short time. These offers are also found on the right hand side of the Home Page, on scrolling down a little.
37. What are those green and red flame-like smileys seen in the forums and on individual deal pages?
On entering a forum or clicking on a deal/offer/ topic, you will find some green and red flame-like smileys next to or below the title of the offer/ topic.
As you must have already noticed, when you hover your mouse on these smileys you can see the number of ‘Score’ and ‘Votes’ the topic has received. While ‘Votes’ simply means the number of Up Votes the deal/ topic has received, ‘Score’ refers to the popularity score of the deal.
A popularity score is a parameter to determine how popular the deal is amongst Dimers. This score is determined automatically by the system, using a complex algorithm, taking into consideration the number of views, vote up/ vote down, user comments, store rating/ reliability and many other such factors of the offer/ topic.
The green smileys mean the deal/ topic has received a good positive score, and the red smileys mean the deal/ topic is getting a lot of flak from other Dimers.
Do not confuse this Score as an indication for Front Page Deals, it is only one of the factors, which helps in selecting FPDs.
38. Can I stalk the offers or topics that I find interesting?
Yes, you can choose to follow any offer or topic you like. To follow it, check right below the title of the offer or topic: Click on ‘More’ > ‘Follow Topic’.
Now, the offer/ topic is added to your ‘Topics I Follow’ list. You will find this list on the right hand side of your profile page. (You can access your profile page by clicking on your username, located in the top right corner of the site, after logging in.)
Now you won’t have to comb through the ever-growing forums for your preferred topic again. You can directly access it from your ‘Topics I Follow’ list.
39. Do I get an email notification once a person replies on a topic that I am following?
Currently you do not, however we are working on making it available for you. You can let us know if you have any more suggestions for DesiDime, by creating a topic on the Questions, issues and suggestions for DesiDime.
40. Can I have private chats with specific members of the community through DesiDime?
Absolutely. Since we are a community that thrives on conversations, we have come up with our very own chat option called Private Messaging or PM.
To send a Private Message to a user or to PM a user you need to first go to their Profile page.
You can visit the profile of any user by clicking on their username from any of their posts on DesiDime. There you will find a blue-coloured ‘Chat’ button, right beside their profile image. You will also be able to see whether the user is currently online or offline. Click on ‘Chat’ and you will find a chat box open on bottom right corner of the screen.
Alternatively, or in case you cannot find the profile page of a user but remember their username, you can still send the user a PM. In this case, click on the Chat icon on the top right corner of the page, to the left of your notifications icon, and the Chats page will open. On this page you will be able to see all your read and unread chats. Enter the username (including any special characters or mixed cases) in the search box given on the right hand side of the page. It will prompt you a list of similar usernames; select the one you are looking for and start chatting.
Note: Sharing contact details in topics is not allowed, however you can do it via PM.
Karma, Ranks, and Badges
41. Apart from Dimes, what more do I get for contributing to the community?
We appreciate the efforts of our Dimers and thus, besides giving them Dimes, we also feature them on our ‘Leaderboard’ which can be seen on the Home Page. Scroll down the Home Page, and you will find it on the right hand side.
The Leaderboard shows you a list of the most active and most enthusiastic contributors of DesiDime along with the number of FPDs they have posted in last 30 days, the number of fans they have in the community and the Karma earned by them so far. When you click on ‘More’ at the end of the list, you will be able to see many more details. (Here’s the link to the main Leaderboard page: https://www.desidime.com/leader...d/)
Karma is another reward you receive for investing your precious time in the community. It is a measurement of how much other Dimers trust you and how beneficial you have been to the community.
Karma is a non-monetary compensation, given to Dimers as recognition of their valuable contribution to the entire community, which helped people save money. You can know more about Karma and how it works, here.
Additionally, there are Vote Ups, people commenting on your deals/ topics, and people suggesting your deals/ offers for FPDs, which show how much your efforts are appreciated by others on DesiDime.
42. Why am I shown as “Deal Newbie” while some other members are presented as ‘Deal Lieutenant’ or ‘Deal Captain’? How do I move up the level?
Deal Newbie, Deal Lieutenant, Deal Captain and other such terms are a representation of your activity level on DesiDime. You are given these titles, according to a ranking system that we follow on DesiDime to value the loyalty of our Dimers. Currently, we have 11 Ranks to reach out for.
All new users join us as “Deal Newbie” and the ranking goes up gradually based on how active you are in DesiDime forums. This is not just limited to posting deals, but it also depends on your overall contribution to the entire community. The ranking is determined by your Karma, a reputation system developed by us. To know all about the Karma system kindly refer here.
You can view all the Ranks on your Profile page.
43. I also see different titles written under the names of some users. What do those signify?
The titles you see are the ‘Badges’, these members have earned through their wonderful contributions to the community over the course of time. It is a symbolic gesture to show that just the way our Dimers consider this community special; we consider them equally special.
We have 55 Activity Badges and 24 VIP Badges for our Dimers, who distinguish themselves by their uniquely valuable participation. You can view all these Badges, on your Profile page just above the list of Ranks.
44. How can I gain these Badges?
For gaining Activity Badges: go to the Activity Badges section found on your Profile page, click ‘View All’. A page showing all Activity Badges will open; hover over each Badge on your Profile page and you will be able to see the various degrees of contributions you need to make to the community, to earn them.
On the other hand, for VIP Badges, the team of admins and moderators select suitable achievers after thorough observation, analysis and discussions; although you will know what each badge represents based on its name. The VIP Badges are given from time to time. So, we recommend you keep up the great job that you are doing, and it won’t go unnoticed.
Warnings, Suspensions and Content Filters
45. Do you give out warnings as well?
Yes, indeed we do. To maintain decorum in forums and to prevent spamming, we give out warnings to users, who fail to abide by the Rules and Regulations of the forums. Please remember that when you are using DesiDime, you are agreeing to our Terms of Use.
If you fail to honour this agreement, you will receive a warning from us. Repeated warnings might result in permanent suspension from DesiDime.
46. When do you suspend a member?
We have a strict “Ban on Sight” policy for:
- Spammers
- Self-Promoters
- Fake Accounts
- Besides this we may also ban:
- Repeated defaulters (users who received several warnings)
- Members abusing others in the forums
- Referral link posters
47. Can I post anything in the Dost & Dimes forum? After all it sounds like a casual forum.
Objectionable or inappropriate content in any form will not be tolerated in any of the forums. Doing so will attract a strict warning.
So, we highly suggest you to avoid posting such topics, even if it’s done in good humour.
48. I want to report an inappropriate content/ user, whom can I reach out to regarding this?
If you wish to report any content posted by a Dimer or even a Dimer, himself for that matter, you can make use of the alert administrator icon, which is the Flag icon present in the top right corner of every post. Alternatively, you can send us the link of the post or user profile via PM (Private Message) or simply comment in the topic and tag an admin, and we will do the needful.
(How to tag a user or admin in your post: type @ in the reply/comment box and wait for a few seconds; you will get suggestions of usernames in a drop down menu, select the username and then type your comment or reply. You can also type @@ at the beginning and end of a username to tag someone.
Note:
i) Usernames are case sensitive.
ii) If you don’t tag someone properly, they will not get a notification about it and this may cause a delay in their reply.)

49. I just received a warning; it says my post is a re-post. Help me, I did not mean to do it on purpose, honest!
Calm down, we are not going to file a case against you. The re-post warning is a reminder, in case you have stopped using the search feature to check if the deal exists or not. Nobody likes to see duplicate posts all around the forum and hence, repeated defaulters are given warnings. It may not matter much if it is your first warning, but we suggest you take the warning seriously and avoid posting duplicate posts thereafter. Getting repeated re-post warnings will lead to a fall in your Karma and your Ranking Level, and finally might lead to account suspension as well.
Merchant Partnerships and Jobs
50. I am a merchant. Can I bribe you to feature my deal on the front page?
No way! We have made a promise to ourselves and to our Dimers that we’ll never post paid advertisements as Front Page Deals. Our Dimers and we, collectively, decide which deals are the most deserving and worthy enough, and only those shall earn their rightful place on our prestigious front page.
51. I am interested in a partnership. Whom to reach out to?
If you mean serious business, you may reach us at the links given below:
- E-commerce Merchants, fill this form here
- Or sign up on DesiDime Merchant Hub
- If you are interested in becoming an Affiliate, fill this form here.
52. Do you guys have any job opportunities?
Since we are continuously expanding, we do keep hiring new talent from time to time. You may send us your resume at jobs@desidime[dot]com and we will get in touch with you. Current job openings can be seen here.
53. My wife/ hubby left me because I’m on DesiDime 24×7.
Don’t worry, we’ve got your back… we’ll find you an awesome deal so that you can gift them something spectacular and beg their forgiveness.
Jokes apart, we advise you to use your time wisely; DesiDime is highly addictive and even we can’t help it!

Hey @Kaleidoscope free for coffee? we both can go to @DealSeeker home as he got new coffee maker a year ago. i hope it’s still working fine DealSeeker?
Yarr:shock: 210 karma par admin Bana diya , mere to 2000 + ha mere Ko bhi admin Bana do:-P
What you are missing is that they were hired as admins first and then registered on the site as admin users. I don’t think DD includes (/promotes) general users as admins. General users get promoted as mods.
It’s a different matter if you, as a general user, apply for a job at PCPL, get hired, and are then given admin privileges here on the site.
Miss @DiscountManiac style of writing and presentation
Sorry but dint like this topic, the way it’s presented. Not that readable

Using DesiDime:
1. What is DesiDime? What’s in it for me?
DesiDime is completely free and user-driven online shopping community for the ‘Aam Janta’. It is a platform where online shoppers from all around can find and share the latest online deals, coupons and offers with each other.
However, what sets us apart are our forums, where all shoppers collaborate to help you grab the best bargains in town; give you genuine reviews on products, stores and sellers; offer you some expert shopping advice; and help you make the most informed shopping decision ever. Furthermore, you can also make friends, begin new discussions, ask questions and voice your opinions on topics apart from shopping in these forums. It’s like going shopping with a chatty friend/ relative, only online.
You can check out some stats and user comments about DesiDime, here.
2. I see so many forums. What are these all about?
Since almost everything under the sun can be discussed on DesiDime, we decided to segregate these discussions under different forums to make life easier for all our visitors as well as Dimers. (Our members are called Dimers, you can be one too, by simply signing up! J)
The main purpose of so many different forums is that you know exactly where to look for what you want and easily access it without having to go through things you are not interested in. This is also the reason we are particularly fussy about what is posted under each forum.
To visit any of these forums, go to Forums > All Forums. Here, you will find all the forums currently active on DesiDime with their descriptions mentioned under their names. Most of the times, the names of the forums will tell you what each forum is about.
For example, you can find all the latest deals and offers under the Hot Deals Online forum, all coupons are collated in the Coupons forum, and you can discuss everything apart from shopping, politics and religion in the Dost and Dimes forum (politics and religion are not allowed, because it can get a little messy). Similarly, there are other forums which have all similar types of topics and posts sorted under each of them.
Besides that, we also have sub-forums, under some of the forums. These had to be created to hold a bunch of same kind of posts within the forum, under one heading, for our users’ convenience. E.g. under the Hot Deals-Online forum, we created the Exclusive Deals and Discounts sub-forum to host all offers, exclusively available for DesiDime members only.
3. How can I search for a deal on a particular thing of my choice?
This is the main reason you are here. The best deals of the day/ hour/ minute, are right where they should be, on the homepage. You will find many more latest and craziest offers of the day in the Hot Deals Online forum.
However, if you want to search for a product or brand, specifically, here’s how you can find the best deal for what you want:
The Usual Style
One way to find deals for what you want is to search it by Categories. Select the category under which your product falls like Fashion, Electronics, Groceries etc.; and you will find all the deals and coupons of that category listed chronologically, on one page. With the help of the filters on the left hand side, you will be able to filter the results by types of offers i.e. Deals or Coupons and by Merchant Names.
Similarly, if you are looking for an offer from a specific store, go to Coupons > Top Stores or Coupons > Top Coupons (bottom right corner of the drop down menu). Then select the store of your choice and you will get a page full of coupons, promo codes and offers arranged in chronological order. Here, you can filter your results by type of offers i.e. Deals or Coupons and by Product Category. In the same way, you can also search for an offer in Deals > Popular Deals.
The DesiDime Style
Go to Forums > Hot Deals – Online Forum or Coupons Forum or any other forum that you think will have what you are looking for.
Every deal/ coupon listed on DesiDime starts out as a topic in the forums, from where it is voted up or down and promoted by the whole community before ending up on the Front Page or Popular Deals section or Top Coupons or any other section. Thus, in the forums, you will find not just the best offers, but offers discovered only minutes ago by our Dimers.
In all these forums, you can filter your results by ‘Merchants’ and ‘Categories’. You will find the filter bar a little above the list of topics.
Also, exactly on top of the list of topics, you will find that you can click on Newest Topics and Popular Topics to access the most recent and the most increasingly popular offers conveniently.
The Google Style
No matter where you are on the DesiDime website, you will find a Search Box on top, right beside the DD logo. Use this thing like you use Google.
Type just about anything in this box; be it product category, product name, brand name, store name or any other term related to your need, and DesiDime will give you results in three to six different tabs, with the number of results mentioned in round brackets next to each tab. Let’s know what you get under each of these tabs:
1) Deals: This tab gives you a grid view of the all the deals related to your search term.
2) Forums: In this tab, you will find a list of all the topics where your search term has been used. You can join in on the conversation and give your opinions or clear your doubts; for all you know, you might leave with a better offer than you intended to find!
3) Stores: This will show you all the Stores related to your search, of which you can select the store’s offers you wish to view.
4) Coupons: This tab shows all the coupons across all the merchants relevant to your search term.
5) Price Comparison: Here you will find all products related to your search term, available at the best price on a store. When you click on any one of the search results, you will be able to see the different prices at which the product is available on different stores, and its specifications.
6) All: By default you are taken to the ‘All’ tab, which has the above mentioned tabs and their search results, listed one below the other.
4. No, no, no… these are not the deals I was looking for, I want a specific deal; how can I find it?
We understand that a basic search throws up an over-whelming amount of results sometimes, and it is frustrating to find one particular offer from among the thousands available.
Here is where ‘Advanced Search’ comes to the rescue. Once you run the basic search, and get the results segregated in different tabs; you will find an Advanced Search button on the right hand side, right above the search related tabs.
When you click on Advanced Search, you will be taken to a page, where you can enter your search term again, and then add seven different types of filters to it to get more accurate search results. The Advanced Search allows you to filter your results by date, by ratings, by forums, by categories, by stores and even by users who posted about your search term. And finally you have the option to see all these results either as list of topics or as list of individual posts.
5. What if I want to know about a particular store’s reliability? Any help?
Certainly. Go to Coupons > Top Stores or All Coupons (bottom right corner of the drop down menu) or select a store directly, if it shows up in the drop-down menu. When you click on any of the store names, you are taken to that particular store’s coupon page. Here you will find a sub-header bar with the store’s logo on it, which reveals everything about the store in a glance. It shows you how many Dimers, so far, have recommended the store; how many reviews have been written about it by shoppers; what is the average star rating it has received and the number of discussions happening around it.
Click on ‘Reviews’ in the sub-header bar and you will be able to see all the reviews written by users, who have shopped on the store, along with the individual ratings they have given to the store. To write your own review for the store, you have the option of ‘Write Review’ in the sub-header.
If you’ve had a good experience with the store and would like to recommend it, too, click on the heart shaped icon on the sub-header.
Finally, click on ‘Discussions’ to see all the topics created around the store. It is particularly helpful because here, you get to see all the on-going offers of the stores and also the various comments of users, who have been served by the store in diverse incidents and situations.
PS: Customer experience with each store might vary with every user.
6. I like a deal. Can I rate it?
Of course! DesiDime is a democracy and we heartily encourage people to voice their opinions, especially in case of online shopping and saving money. So, you can definitely rate a deal if you like or dislike it, which we, at DesiDime, term as Vote Up or Vote Down.
On every deal, coupon, offer or topic on DesiDime you will find the thumbs up and thumbs down button. Click on either to give your vote, but when you Vote Down a post, you need to state what you do not like about the offer or topic. The various reasons for which a post can get a Vote Down are listed here.
On the right hand side of the title of every topic or offer there is the ‘Buy Now’ button and the ‘Reply’ button. So, apart from grabbing the deals; we also encourage you to voice your opinions on all topics that interest you, share any useful information you have about an offer or store, and tag our admins and Dimers (refer to Question 48 for more details on how to tag), whenever you need any help shopping online, so that they can help you out.
You can also find a Reply button on the sticky bar on top when you are scrolling and a Reply box at the end of the all the comments on the page.
7. What is a Front Page Deal? How does a deal become a Front Page Deal?
As the name suggests, Front Page Deals (or FPDs) are those top deals from the forums that are chosen to be displayed on DesiDime’s front page. We handpick these best offers using an extensive process so that the users have access to truly amazing deals, in one place. As a reward for bringing up such a great deal, the original poster (or OP) is given 20 Dimes for each deal that makes it to the front page. To know more details on how our admins and moderators process and select FPDs, please refer here.
Since we are a user driven community, we give some of our members the option to suggest any deals, they find worthy enough, for the front page. This can be done by clicking on the “Suggest FPD” button located right below the title of every post.
8. What is this Hotness I see on every deal?
The hotness of a deal is determined based on a combination of various factors, some of which include the views of the deal, the relevant comments on it, the votes awarded to said deals by our Dimers, how many Dimers have clicked the links of the deal, session time, the price factor, etc.
The hotter a deal, the more likely it is to be marked as a popular deal and showcase on our front page.
