There's no component shortage and transportation delays in SSD foundries it's an artificial made shortage, samsung and wd shut down a couple of factories manufacturing ssd chips to create a pressure on distribution nodes to increase the price every corporate wants profits and they will fall to a new low every now and then.

Because of increased demand and reduced supply.

Increased Demand:

  1. AI requires massive amounts and great speed of storage for data processing and training models.
  2. Global tech giants are expanding their data centers, driving up demand for SSDs to store increasing volumes of data.

Reduced Supply: Ongoing global supply chain issues, including component shortages and transportation delays

Last year some ssd manufacturers came to the brink of bankruptcy due to very low ssd prices so obviously they have to stop production to correct the demand supply dynamics. It takes billions of $ in R&D & mfg facilities for nand flash used in ssd. Btw, hdd prices have increased a lot too since last year but that's because consumer mkt demand for hdd fell while enterprise sector demand rose due to increasing data storage requirements.

There was oversupply in the market due to which SSD manufacturers have reduced production hence the increase in prices.

I purchased a SP 256GB NVMe for 1499/- at the end of the last year and today the same drive is selling for 2499/-. My research told me that prices will increase soon so at that time I purchased another NVMe the price of which has now increased by 500/- something; wait for sometime for the prices to cool down.

Why nobody is talking about the 18% GST applied on storage items by Government of India, I bought external HDD of 2 TB worth INR 6000 from amazon in which more than INR 1000 was GST, Do you still think companies are looting public or government is taxing heavily on various products causing high inflation in almost every category ?

Completely imported products need to taxed heavily to promote local manufacturing, atleast local assembly, which creates a lot of blue collar jobs.

Otherwise there will be lot of cheap Chinese electronic dumping in Indian market, which will not only not create jobs, but also flood market with inferior quality products with no control over manufacturing capabilities or policies.
