Why Are we headed for higher GST rates?

rajeevmasand...

GST on apparel, textiles and footwear up from 5% to 12%, effective Jan 2022. (confirmed cry )

New considerations :-

  1. GST Council to consider raising GST slab of 5% to 7% and 18% to 20%. confused
  2. Examine the "feasibility of merging 12% and 18% to one single slab at 17% (yeah not even 15%) rage
  3. Increasing the taxes on precious metal (gold/silver) from 3% to 5% rolleyes

Already we are paying higher prices on Oil, vegetables are expensive & household expenditure is already up.
What is the govt. even thinking ?

The govt is on a hike spree.
They have specifically raised GST rate for garments under Rs 1,000, 85% of market in India buys garments less than Rs.1000.

Already

  • Clothing Manufacturers Association of India,
  • Retailers Association of India ,
  • Indian Bullion Jewellers Association
are urging govt., that their businesses were affected severely by COVID and now this move would again impact the business by derailing customers to buy

I think current Tax earning is enough but State and Central govt, municipality are spending on unnecessary and useless things (inclusing salary to useless employees).
- Foot path/Road banao – todo – banao – todo
- Cash for vote like scheme to get votes
- Expense on advertisement
- Give tender on higher price for which good quality item are available on low price ( Kalmadi is every where . on friend was in one small software company involved in developing software for govt. for small software of cost ~10L , collector was forcing them to give tender of 1.5 to 2cr. same is hapening with 90% of the tenders )
- Expense on inaugration and ceremonies ( it is not just expense but waste of time of man power which can be used in some other way)
-for last few years i see many beautification projects are run by govt. There is lack of basic infrastructure and govt spending on beautification.
