I've been trying to optimise our diets and finding out that we're terribly deficient has made me jump into a rabbit hole of nutritional supplements lol. What do y'all take and where do you get the best deals and highest quality stuff?

I'm taking neurobion forte, evion 400, limcee and vit d shots...but I'm thinking to buy this 👇🏻

All the vitamins with 100% rda value plus extra minerals and probiotics... 180 tablets for just ₹699....

1000020928

For other like omega-3 and extra vit d u can take this from Jan Aushadhi kendra online/offline , its ₹150 for 30 tablets.... i think combining both products will cost much less than ur calculation and several products...

Don't buy anything from Carbamide Forte, they sued that Trustified guy when he showed that their product doesn't actually have what it claims to have.

Don't take supplements on your own at least not without performing the necessary tests. Issues with excess intakes  in case of fat soluble vitamins especially Vits. A & D is well-known but not the risk of accelerating the growth of dozens of different types of cancerous tumors. Even Omega 3 supplements aren't without side-effects.

Vitamin K (don't need to bother about it's sub-types) deficiency is extremely rare as it's abundant in green leafy vegetables like Spinach, Cabbage, Broccoli etc. Same applies to Biotin.

Vitamin D is the only one that might be necessary although many fortified foods like packaged milk, edible oils etc do include some amounts. However a prior test is a must. For those avoiding dairy and eggs B12 supplementation might be required although the liver stores upto 5-6 years worth and hence symptoms due to it's deficiency can take upto a decade to manifest. Rest vitamins and minerals are easy to get from a balanced diet comprising a variety of whole grains, fruits and vegetables.

Edit: How did you come to conclusion that the requirements of the abovementioned vitamins and minerals weren't being met? Did you carry out the tests? At the very least measure the raw ingredients for a week or so and check in Cronometer.

No supplements ever taken till now.

If have to relocate to some Scandinavian region or wherever it is 20 hours of darkness or permanent dawn/dusk for six months..
.THEN .. might think of whether I too have to pop pills.
(Acquaintances, friends there do take Vitamin D etcetera. And this, despite being locals.. whose bodies are more attuned to such climate and weather.)

Other health issues do come and go or sometimes stay.

But i never had the urge or even felt the need.. to make it a habit to pop pills in my mouth (or any other orifice, for that matter.)

in our kitchens.. have long been avoiding packaged spices, whole wheat flours since decades.

Thus there is aomewhat more control on the kind of, hygiene of spices or other items getting consumed.

Entirely skipping the evening meal/ night meals or only taking something light (at-least three hours before hitting the bed) too is now becoming.. standard routine.

Being vegetarian, although eggs, meat do not form part of my diet..
my fresh fruits, vegetable, salad eating habits could easily get me mistaken for a hippopotamus. (Or my size surely will... ... .. get me mistaken for a hippopotamus.)

Last I remember finishing a complete (small) bottle of an aerated soft drink.. was when 'Gold spot' brand was still available. Maybe two or three times.. later in life.. i was compelled to hold a glass of some (soft) drink.. in my hand.. where others were enjoying and bonding over alcohol.
ao..might have taken half a glass or so.. of Dew, Limca type things on those two three occasions. I try to minimise it, if I cannot avoid eating at functions or in community kitchens, langar etcetera.

I never look for deals on grains, pulses, dry fruits.. but rather get the best that I can afford or source.. if I am in the mood.

Even if that means.. having someone export a small cargo of dry fruits from Isfahan, Tehran, Baluchestan.

Or fresh dal-chini/ cinnamon, cloves from Bandung, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur.
(This is an exception though and not the norm. I am fairly comfortable and prefer having.. whatever is within the region, pantry i am in.)

Consuming a lemon .. almost everytime I eat outside is a forced, yet natural habit.
NOT consuming curd/dahi products outside, but regularly having fresh, homemade curd/dahi.. too is routine.

If after all this.. i still have to pop pills, pop fake/real powders daily.. then I might as well put a bullet THROUGH my cranium.

Mum was diagnosed with a Vit D and B12 deficiency. I did the whole cronometer thing (we're vegetarians, but I can at least eat eggs, she doesn't like the taste at all) and we were coming up short + trying to meet RDAs had me coming up with a super carb heavy, high calorie diet sad we don't drink much milk since we're not sure it isn't adulterated. Vit K2 is for heart health and because of short-term high-dose Vit D3 therapy.

Where did you see RDA for Vitamin D as 10000IU?! RDA for it varies from 400 - 800IU. Upto 4000IU/d is safe. After tests if there's deficiency the doctor would prescribe an initial loading dose of upto 60000IU once a WEEK for a few weeks depending on the degree of the deficiency. Thereafter if the levels reach the normal values one can continue with 1000IU/d. I take 1000IU every 2 days.

Edit: A typical North Indian diet (whole wheat, lentils, dry fruits etc.) should have no issues meeting the Mg requirements.

Barring Vit. D and in certain scenarios B12 the amount you have earmarked on supplements of dubious necessary can be much better spent towards a healthy diet.

mum has terribly low vitamin D and was prescribed 60k once weekly for 4 weeks, but lately we're trying out short term high-dose therapy. if you watch Dr Berg's videos, it'll make sense what we're trying to do biggrin we don't eat an indian diet at all. too carb heavy. and we never use cooking oil either

if your goal is longevity and healthy life, you should look up to former president jimmy Carter and his wife, their household has outlived everyone, even their own parents.

Maybe one big reason for his longevity is due to all the genuine good work that he and his organization have done in Africa for eradication of diseases.

Even if one does not believe in positive karma from religious viewpoint, doing good things can lead to a sense of happiness and fulfillment in seeing others happy - especially the downtrodden.

Nah, we don't eat a typical Indian diet. When you look up the nutrition, it's not particularly good.

There was a phase when I was a hardcore regular at the gym - I must have been taking almost 6-8 (legal) supplements back then. Not sure if every one of them worked but overall  they produced really good results. Looking back I probably wasted money on some of that stuff and could have just stuck to the basics. 😌
