Nothing like best IMO.  Go with the tag which is issued by your bank so that top up etc is relatively easier and you can get statements from your bank portal.

All tags are the same because you can load money from Amazon nowadays.

Bank account linked tags have an advantage of automatic top up if the amount goes below a set number so that you don't have to sorry about forgetting to top up.

Any bank/ app which lets you utilize the same Fastag balance for other things is better than the rest. Paytm was awesome in this case but since it isn't here anymore, the next best that I can think of is Amazon ICICI. So, you will be able to utilize that unused balance for almost everything. Another benefit is that you don't need to have a minimum recharge amount associated with it, just load whatever you want into the Amazon wallet. I'm new to this since I bought my first car 3 months ago, so I'm not sure if other banks have some min recharge criteria or not. Mine is IndusInd and while the portal says the criteria is 200, I can even send ₹1 to my Fastag wallet using the UPI QR on the same fastag portal.

I've also read that ICICI Fastags (Not Amazon ICICI) enable you to pay at petrol pumps too, but that too is a very limited scenario and I'm sure that many petrol pumps will refuse to do so citing technical issue every now and then.

If you're not going with Amazon ICICI, then I would suggest you get Fastag from your bank for added benefits like linking to the same mobile app, auto recharge and no KYC issues. And whatever you do, don't ever go with IndusInd because -

1. Once you purchase, you can't close it until you do full KYC

2. Their portal sucks, and the banks and even their customer support won't be able to help you, blaming each other and what not.

3. It finally took me nearly 2 months, tons of emails and visit to each of its branch in my city to luckily find the only person in my and two other neighboring state who can physically handle that. I went through all this mess for my uncle between Jan and March, and then why I bought my own car in April, the dealer too stuck IndusInd's on my windscreen, thankfully I knew the procedure this time, but it still took him nearly a month to process the full KYC. 😭
