Is this even a Scam?
So, I have put few stationary item for sale on OLX.
Someone messaged me on OLX, and asked is it available then he quoted the same price as I had mentioned on olx in the chat.
He asked me for my number, Which I directly gave him.
Then he called and asked me again if it's still available, then he asked me for final price to which I replied him that unlike others I don't believe in infiltrating the prices and then lowering it down.
I told him that the price is reasonable. Then he told me that he is a reseller and tomorrow he will send someone to collect it asked me for payment method, to which I replied UPI/cash.
Then he said share your UPI ID, I will pay and then worker will collect tomorrow, to which I replied that no need as of now first see the product and then you can pay, he replied that you have shared clear images so there is nothing more to see. Deal is fixed now, I will pay and then tomorrow worker will collect it.
I retaliated again and then he asked me to send my location, and also told me that now don't deal with anyone, if you want I will pay you 4000 as well.
Then I shared my location ( By that time I hadn't realized that it might be a scam) with him on whatsapp, then after 5 minutes he asked me for paytm /phone pe/ gpay number ( Spelling mistake in writing). To which I replied wait, let your worker visit here and then you can pay. Then after few minutes he called me on whatsapp asking my UPI number I will pay to which, I replied him that now I don't want payment right now. I want cash only now. Then he disconnected the call and no further communication.
Is he trying to do some UPI dispute kind of scam or something else? Does anyone knows what could have happened next? If I would have agreed.
I am not hiding scammer number here. If admin wants then he can delete image or hide it.

He will send you a Pay Request for the price of the item and tell you that he is trying to transfer the money to you and you have to enter your PIN to accept it. People who aren't tech savvy fall for this scam because they've never received a pay request before.
Few other things worth consideration.
Olx account: opened today at 10:43 am
Whatsapp Account: Just one month old
Fake scammers beware of newly opened account and deal done at price which is quoted these people agree with the price mention ask location and say their person will collect it
had put a sofa for sale and i immediately got a call and he said he is ok with lriceand to confirm he will put 5 rs to my account.
Knew this was a scam since the all 2as from north and he said some Nearby place and said its too close by.
I honestly gave my number and i said u can drop 5 rs, I'll confirm.
He said he has dropped, pls check and confirm.
I opened my banking app from another mobile and told him haven't received. He said openmy gpay app and check, i said doesn't matter, if i open gpay also it won't show since you haven't sent any.
was quite busy and hence i just cut the call, else i would have had some fun time with him.
Scammer wanted me to open gpay, but anyways even if i did i would have opened in the other phone.
I always give a spare number for this kind purpose.
They send "your account has been credited with xxx amount" type sms from mobile number with phonepe/paytm written and Truecaller would send you alert like you have received sms from phonpe Paytm. Then they say i have sent you extra amount by mistake, please return the remaining amount. Many people don't check banking apps for txn confirmation and may fall for this scam.
Actually Most of the resellers would not pay you first without seeing the actual condition of the product or atleast they would bargain and try to add some charges to pick products. Seems very strange to me that he is "Reseller" and insisting to make payment first.
He was about to send u a upi req. And u got looted after entering upi pin.
In India if someone doesn't bargain then he is 100% scammer
@TridentDG bro how did you check the number details?
Someone I know had encountered this scam. Basically there are two ways to scam this way.
1. They will send you payment request. Innocent people overjoyed with the deal will accept it by entering the pin. Money gone . For this scam most apps have removed payment request option. Now it is mostly available with merchant accounts.
2. They will send few rupees as trial first to win your trust. After that they will send drafted message saying money credited from thier account but it may take time reach your account. And will ask you to return it.
Scammer alert : They would never meet in person and only discuss about UPI/CC payments.
Note : I don't consider them scammer (Its a disrespect to scammers as they have more knowledge), these are the type of people who collect polythene or garbage from the drains.
How to avoid all types of online fraud : Never click on links in emails/sms/websites.
Never buy from website who dont offer CoD and are lesser known.
Do not entertain any customer care call, just don't share info even if they are genuine.
Avoid putting CC/DC /UPI info for 10-20-30-50 etc cashback.
Always check the OTP description in sms before sharing it with anyone.
Check website /link/file /attachment on virustotal.com
Please don't take any amount from these guys , say 5-10 or 50 rs .
As its tainted blood money ... and your account will be frozen .. including complete chain of accounts .
Avoid taking payments from strangers .
dont post on quickr and olx. you will get tons of scam calls. facebook groups or better
Red Flags:
Scammer account in olx shows time instead of date or year
They never negotiate
They are ready to pay in upfront
Sometimes the number of messages we get after posting an ad will be like 5-10 within 10 minutes but all those accounts will be suspended in a day.
Real dealing in a buy/sell is a headache process, so if you are not facing any headache means something is fishy
A fairly common and routine scam on OLX. The scamsters initially agree to whatever rate you display without any negotiation. He would also insist on taking the payment without inspecting the product or visiting ur premises. He would initially ask for your upi id/code and send a token Rs. 1 or 10 amount to gain trust.
He would finally send his own payment QR code and ask you to accept it by entering ur UPI pin, to receive the payment. QR code is actually meant for paying him. If you fall in that trap, you will end up paying the scamster 10 times the deal amount, instead of recieving the payment.
Worker, money transfer, collect are usual words by fraud buyers on OLX if you are used to it.
1. Location should never be our location. It should be near by shop
2. No advance amount and always full amount.
3. Strike conversation with those who has time to visit
4. If it's a small item the seller always meet at near by shop and confirm name of buyer and pay account while transferring.
The scam will be pay request scam or your account will be used for money transfer and immediately they call that they mistakenly transferred and ask to refund. When you refund high chances your account will be freezed.
If none of these work out and OLX and UPI numbers are same , they transfer 5rs and make you part of their gang.
All theses are happening and victims who lost money and whose account got freezed queuing up at cyber crime offices.
