What is typically the diameter/radius of the hole needed to create in wall for a Split AC installation?
I am 100% sure none of the AC installation guys in India use a hole saw. Not sure what their problem is. Either they are not aware of such a tool or AC companies are just too cheap not to invest even a 1000 bucks for it. I do not want horrible unprofessional work like the image below. I will buy one hole saw myself of the required diameter.

Hole is about 3-5 inches depending on the brand and capacity.. Generally the pipe goes from behind the unit unless the outdoor unit is not behind the wall.. It’s a messy process but doesn’t look bad once it’s done.. Tell them to fill the hole with POP. The picture you have given is truly unprofessional and shabby work.
2.5" dia, more than sufficient.
Ur picture shows 100% unprofessional work. If done by company authorised person. Complaint to company immediately.
Today I bought the outdoor unit stand from a AC parts supplier. He asked me if I wanted people to install the AC. I said yes. He said he will give give me numbers of some installers. There were a couple of installation guys buying something in his shop at that time. I told them that my condition is that the installer should have core drill. Unanimously the supplier and the other guys spoke at the same time….no one has core drill, sir…core drill is there only with few company’s own installers and that too at a premium price…you won’t get such installers easily….don’t worry sir, we will “manage”, you won’t be able to see the hole (as it will be behind the indoor unit)

That picture is from Kenstar AC reviews at Amazon.
Unfortunately this is the way AC installation is done in india. Ask them to close the hole properly with POP after installation.
