Is there any cheap recharge or any other option to achieve this? By cheap I mean less than ₹50/month ideally.

Airtel is not cheap anymore.. Infact its not in past too.
Switch to bsnl, provided you get enough signal in your area.
Move to Jio. Recharge with ₹119/14 days once and recharge it every six months.

I'm also using Airtel as a secondary sim and 99 rs is the minumum recharge for Airtel for 28 days to keep the sim active. It can be combine with the offers 30/40/50 Rs cashback for a good offer.
I recharge 455₹ once, then i keep adding data add ons whenever I find any offer.
99 is the minimum recharge with 28days validity + 7days grace period with incoming calls, in another 60days SIM can be deactivated by the Airtel
