Not all doctors are good bhai. It depends on the department you want to visit.

Getting appointment is difficult without knowing someone (either a politician or a doctor who has known contacts here or some other govt servant). But that's also subjective, some departments are overloaded while some have comparatively lesser waiting times.

The experience without any connection is pathetic in pgi. Never been to aiims so no idea.

No idea why everyone praising AIIMS here, get to real fact, you will either need a resource or stay in line for long hours to even get first appointment. After the appointment, in case of surgery, you have to wait for months depending upon the case history and resources available.

If the patient issue is complicated, get it treated by private hospital like Max or Fortis.

Getting appointment isn't a problem there but getting treatment is.

Long ques, over utilised capacity of patients, dynamic behaviour of staff, negligence, carelessness, etc etc. are some of characteristics.

Don't forget to post your experience.

From where I am from, it is considered that doctors in government hospitals are the best in the country in terms of experience and brilliance. Since these are people who get admissions to these medical courses based on educational merit,.

First, figure out who the doctor is that you want to consult and see if they have a private practice. Some of these doctors have their consultations at home after their working hours. See if you can go that route; it might be easier to reach them that way.

There are strict rules regarding private practice for doctors in both aiims and pgi.

I have heard govt doctors doing private practice but none from these institutes.

A personal visit will be required unless you have any connection to any person in the hospital.

Treatment/cost wise aiims is top tier. Another option is tata hospital if in Mumbai but personal visit is req. there too

Staff capacity to no of patients is very poor hence even with low level connections you might have to visit no on call appointment nothing

Don't know about AIIMS but the doctors are good in govt setup as their clinical acumen due to sheet number of patients is very high. But I noticed usually they may not spend much time on patients/reports. Sometimes they don't even wait for full reports yet give conclusions. I think initial visit will happen same day if you get tokens early in the morning. But if the condition warrants a surgery then it can take weeks or months.

If you are asking for personal reasons, It is always safer to get 2nd opinion or even 3rd opinion. Identify a major hospital and take virtual consultation. If that's not possible just buy a 1 month plans of medibuddy, lybrate etc then ask for specialist consultation online with all the reports.

If u are Indian middle class, then getting treatment in aiims is not that easy, especially, if the patient needs immediate/urgent treatment.

In AIIMS delhi, One has to stand in queue for 24 hours to get an appointment to see a doctor, only if he is not on leave. Next, u will get the appointment and dr will ask u for some tests which will take atleast another one week times to get it after roaming counter to counter

Then, stand again in queue for another 24 hours to see the doctor( hope, Dr is not on leave and if he is on leave then believe me, no one has any idea when he would come. In that condition what will u do next is to Wait and wait for him to come, u will have to again stand in queue for another 24 hrs to see the dr if he comes)

You can take an appointment online. Waiting time is longer than usual but doctors are extremely smart and brilliant.

Delhi AIIMS have these issues of long queues when there was only one AIIMS in the country. No seats were available at that time.
..

Now every state have AIIMS so i don't think this issue is there now. I visited Patna AIIMS 2 years ago for complete eye checkup. It was done within 2 hours and great service (not like old government hospitals)

Bro.. doctors there are good not only because they are top of the cream, but also because give most optimum opinion. Private doctors may give extended treatment.

Three options-

1. Visit Aiims Pgi etc. Without contacts, treatment will be very hectic for family members.

2. Visit big private hospitals. Issue is cost.

3. Get opinion from private practice of reputed govt doctors. Will get better idea on how to proceed.

I would suggest you to take a loan instead and go to a private hospital (if patient is bed ridden or cant move efficiently) ...

Taking such patient (whose already weak) to a gov. Hospital..would be dangerous.... Since rate of hospital acquired infections are very high among gov. Hospital (since lack of cleanliness, and all patients are merged in same ward, & the equipment aren't sanitized since the load of patients is huge...)

Patients condition goes worse not for what they had been admitted for but due to pneumonia, etc (contagious, hospital acquired!)
So be it aiims or any other gov. Hospitals ... Sab k sab same he ..... Donot take risk ....
I always suggest this to everyone ...
If u wnt to protect ur loved ones .....
Take then to private hospital... Loan lelo chalega m.. money can be earned again but a lost life is a lost life ......!

Also gov. Hospitals me senior doctors ki main shift sirf ek baar hoti he .. doctors jyada attentive bhi nhi hote .. aur jo dr. He vo sab students hote he .... ""
And all the patients are their "subject" to experiment....!

Not so hard. You can take online appointment. You need to ask for security to show you the counter needed for online appointments. Queue is shorter in length in comparison to other.

AIIMS are the flagship group of medical Universities of India. Doctors appointed there are extremely capable and brilliant. If you can't take an appointment in AIIMS then you can check your nearest state sponsord hospital.

The issue with AIIMS is that you might not be able to visit the professors there. Mostly PG students will diagnose you, who are extremely brilliant as well but not as experienced as the professors. State govt sponsored hospitals are extremely good. Things have changed drastically. If poor people can get quality treatment there then we should get it too.
