Over the years, there have been a number of attempts by BJP-led governments of Uttar Pradesh to rename Allahabad to Prayagraj. In 1992, the planned rename was shelved when the chief minister, Kalyan Singh, was forced to resign following the Babri Masjid demolition. 2001 saw another attempt led by the government of Rajnath Singh which remained unfulfilled. In October 2018, the cabinet of the Yogi Adityanath-led government endorsed the move which now awaits approval from the central government.

Ganga teer jo Prayag station hai, uska vyarth ‘downgrade’ sa ho gaya.
PRG serves to reduce the load on the main station of the town and is already well known. if similar new name comes, it’ll clash or create confusion.
of-course PRG is closer to the banks of Ganga and not in the city heart, so locals will know.
