I am one lf the earliest customers of 1mg (starting from when it was Healthkart and then spun off into healthkartplus). In the beginning they delivered only in Gurgaon followed by expansion into Delhi-NCR and then into other cities. However their growth has led them to adopt customer unfriendly tactics now. In the middle they had stopped delivering medicines in Gurgaon itself. However while we get sms/email notifications about delivery, promotions are only email based. Here too they had started out promoting themselves as a site that allowed you to find generic equivalent of your regular/doctor-prescribed medicines and save a lot of money. I extensively used the feature and ended up saving quite a bit of money. Non-OTC medicines needed a doctor’s prescription. However they have recently changed their policy of not delivering the generic equivalent if the name of the salt or the medicine is not mentioned in the prescription. That defeats the whole purpose of ordering the generic equivalent because it is unlikely that the doctor will list all the equivalents of the medicines or even know each and every salt of the medicine prescribed (one salt based medicine it is still possible but what will they do if there are multiple salts in the medicine). So as usual when I placed my medicine order today I got a call from their cc saying that since the generic equivalent was not mentioned on the prescription they would not deliver the medicine. They asked me to get a new prescription from the doctor – so now I need to travel 40 km to the doctor and ask for a new prescription (and God knows if he will charge a fee for the same or not). Funnily there was no email from 1mg to its customers in this regard. Also since they have a tie-up with a pharmacy in your city/location it is expected that they will deliver fast but they take 48 hours or more to get the medicines delivered. I have now decided to stay away from them (also there are a lot many players in the market in this segment now).

its not their fault bro. they are under lot of pressure from the goverenment due to chemists assosiation. if government rules, they may have to shut down their medicine business. they are making their rules stricter to be able to continue doing business. it is shame but its fault of your local chemist

Its saddening to see these developments…
1. Awareness about generic drugs have been spread to public after a great effort (Aamir Khan’s TV show, various posts shared in social media etc)
2. Earlier generics-selling shops were hard to find, now online services have made it very simple.

But moves like these, likely fuelled by pharma giants themselves in their own interest, are preventing the fruit of these movements from reaching the public.

It wouldn’t be easy to ask your doctor to prescribe a ‘Generic drug name’ instead of the brand name they’re familiar with.

Govt. on their part should not penalize the general public in the name of safeguarding the interests of brick-and-mortar shops. (who would again prefer selling expensive brands as their commission increases with price).
