Just read this:
99.9% of prepaid telecom services users in India have no idea that their number being idle costing company Rs.15-25/month
1.How it is costing the company?
Company has to maintain your data for last 1 year no matter whether you using it only for 1 second every month. This maintenance activity costs company Rs.7-10 on an average per month. Your data is updated every month and with every recharge you do or every call you make which takes up space on system. So nothing is free here. If company de-activates 1 idle customer it gives them space for handling 3 active users with Rs.50/month usage. It may surprise you but that is the truth.
Same time, you are using network too although it is for incoming only for calls and sms. Yes, when you pay nothing and use network for say 1 hour. It is putting load on network and at same time somewhere a high paying customer of company suffering. Network usage without any income from idle number adds to company woes.

2. I am recharging my number so company is earning a lot from me.
This is the biggest misconception all users have. For a company if your balance of Rs.500 is idle, it is not a revenue but just a debt on them. It turns into revenue only when you use that balance. Before usage if it is kept idle it is your property not theirs.
Have you ever read lines after recharge? Your account has been credited with Rs.7.47 with recharge of Rs.10. The word CREDIT means negative balance to company. It only turns positive when you use it. Company can’t take it as a revenue or report it as revenue until you use it. They pay taxes on every recharge but their revenue will start only when that talktime is being used. If it is idle it is a burden on them as debt although they aren’t giving you interest.
Suppose: 5 customers have Rs.100 balance in their account and in a month 4 users used Rs.20 each and 5th one nothing so revenue for that month is counted as Rs.80. Though record has to be maintained for this 5th customer too but no revenue means a loss to company. When subscribers are in crores, this loss is tuning upto crores every month.
3. The word prepaid has a deep meaning which never means revenue to company.
The prepaid users are paying in advance but every thing is credited to customer account not company account. In mobile service, your prepaid number is your account number just like banks. It transfers to company’s account only when you are burning it. Although settlement is done every week or 15 or 30 days depending on company’s accounting system.
It is just like bank where 0 balance account have to maintained by banks and it costing them heavily like record updates, mailing statements etc., SMS sent to customers.
Similar thing with DTH also. If you take annual pack of for e.g Rs. 2000 in one go it becomes a revenue immediately for company but if your plan is Rs. 150 per month and you keep Rs.1800 then company earns only 150/month as revenue. Ever read the word Cr with balance? DishTV these days started showing balance in negative these days. So if you have say Rs.3000 in DTH account and your plan costs Rs.300/month then for compete revenue company has to wait 10 months for same altthough you have paid them but it is credited to your account not company’s account. It transfers to company’s account once statement is generated.
It may be a annoying matter for customers but idle customers are a big loss to companies no matter whether it is mobile or dth or bank or even ecom companies.
So that’s why telecom companies like Jio are pushing daily data plans with calling combined because in these plans nothing is credited to user account, all goes to companies.
nothing changed
anyone else part from OP got validity increased?
Oh, never thought about an expiring sim, they might extend it automatically if its in use though right? would seem stupid for them not to and make a customer get another

My Vodafone number now has both outgoing and incoming barred. Even outgoing and incoming SMS is barred, so I can’t send a port request
Question – if I charge with 1 day data pack of Rs 9 or say Rs 5 for 1 hour data, will I be able to send outgoing SMS (I have some main balance)? Please do inform, if anyone knows.
