The Sabarmati Report (Hindi Movie) - "Unpaid" Movie Review

TL;DR - I do not think it is worth a visit to the theatre due to the sketchy plot and too many of those "This couldn't have happened" moments. In terms of execution, while it wasn't as torturous to watch as The Kashmir Files, it was nowhere near as good as as Article 370 or, the best of the lot - Uri : The Surgical Strike. Based on your political leaning though you might be willing to look past all the flaws and even thoroughly enjoy the movie.

Long Version -
Movies based on true events need to be tightly edited and the storyline needs to be watertight. This one falls short on those counts. The movie tries to portray what happened on that fateful day in Godhra in 2002 and how it was covered by the media after that. The crux of the movie is the constantly changing narrative of that day as an "accident" v/s "conspiracy". While some facts are undeniable, the movie seems to suggest that there was only one news channel that covered (up) the events and only the management and a couple of journalists at that channel who knew the truth. That to me was taking creative liberties way too far. There is a lot of over-simplification and dumbing-down of things and many plot loopholes. May be a less discerning movie watcher might not even notice those.

All the negatives aside, Vikrant Massey as the Hindi patrakar Samar does a fine job and almost carries forward from his 12th Fail-like role. He is like 2/3rd of the glue that just manages to hold the movie together. He has the best dialogues with some humour thrown in too. Ridhi Dogra as the English journalist / newscaster Mahika is stunning in her role (looks as well as execution) and is the remaining 1/3rd of the glue that makes the move bearable. She is a cold person who treats journalism as a business. You are continuously tempted to equate her with a (in)famous English news reporter from back then. Raashi Khanna as the third reporter Amrita who tries to retrace in 2007 what happened 5 years ago is passable.

My bad I was aiming for the 💙 reaction, but it went 😂 instead.

The 🤍 would have been for the (old days) tweet sized mini review.

The highest authority has praised the movie

The praise is for the messaging of the movie. It isn't for how well the movie has been made (direction, storyline, editing).

Point but they do know how to make proper entertaining or meaty movies as well. Plus they are the producers, not the directors or story writers.

Balaji Telefilms as a producer has made some fine movies too -

whitewashing at best and confusing the common public from the ideology and mindset of criminals.
