Hello guys can someone elaborate me how gold jewellery brands charges on making. I'm find it more costly then buying raw gold.
So it will be more helpful to know about Tanishq making charges and how can I get discount on tanishq making charges as maximum possible?
Also want to know is it better to shop Jewellery from local stores or brands like Tata's Tanishq which one is best ?
I'm asking all these as we are from middle class family and now need to buy gold for my Sister's marriage 😀, So hope you can understand every penny we can save is very important for us. So, kindly suggest best from your side.

Go for Tanishq
Local jeweler if they give hallmark jewellery. making charges are negotiable
making charges on tanishq or other brands depends on design and always on higher side.
One can buy gold coins on discount from ajio/flipkart/amazon from time to time with max discount. It can be adjusted 100% as per prevalent rate while buying jewellery by exchanging

but paji making charge to fir bhi lenge na jewellers? + @tank_u_m8
i have never bought gold ornaments but I do have some gold coins can I give them to jeweller and ask them to make ornaments and pay only making charges?
Yes but if you ask for a bill they will charge you 3% GST on total cost again.
Making charges of Tanishq is very high. Check charges at TBZ , malabar or Kalyan jewellers
Reputed chains used to offer KDM jewellery, in which no ‘khot’ was charged during buyback.
But due to cadmium risk to craftsmen, government banned the sale of KDM products.
Now for variety in designs, one has to hop from chain to chain (brand).
And getting offers or spot offers for 50% to even 100% discount on making charges IS possible both with branded showrooms and normal shops.
But if one has time and know the right artisans, getting it made .. to me.. still feels like the best option for heirlooms.
A sister-in-law did it for a few years.
Got customised jewellery made by overseeing every bit of operation and then her close friend or a relative would take it to North America and sell it among their circle.
If multiple sets are being sourced from the same shop or brand, then getting a partial (or full) waiver on the making charges IS possible.
Except for few basic sets, letting her have mental peace with digital gold.. makes more sense.
Costs of insurance and safe keeping can be avoided with Gold bonds or dematerialised holding of bullion.
Buying gold coins and giving to local maker definitely saves money. In my place fir 916kdm or 22k gold ornment they charge 500rs per gram.
If you dont ask for hallmark then it will be cheaper but you end up getting 20k gold only.
compare prices based on above and decide youself.
note that reputed jewellers use machine cut, so you get nice designs. Not all local makers can do it.
I used to buy from tanishq and khazana. But with in last month i was able to save 32k on gold bangles of 35.48gms by giving it to local maker wit hallmark.
calculation:
33x5100(24k gold rate)= 168300
500×35.48= 17,740. With hallmark
for every 100gm gold 8gms copper is mixed.
kazana told me that 28% wastage and making charges +3% gst. So price for same in khazana is 224,528
tanishq only if you want to buy solitaire diamonds.
I visited few days before my birthday . That time I got 20% discount on making charges.
This on on gold jewellery purchase.
@Best_Deal_Hunter Checkout this site. It’s selling 22K gold coins without any making charges (akshaya tritiya offer) and 2% card discount. I don’t have any first hand experience of this site but it’s from a reputed jeweller.
Can someone share current offers on 24k gold coins from trusted sites? I’m also in the same boat as OP and need to buy jewellery from Tanishq soon.
Also, does this work with digital gold on gpay, phonepe, etc. too?
check ajio.com 5% discount on all prepaid orders
I’m a little confused how this works. If I check the current price for 24k gold, it’s around 5350/g. Even after the discount, most of the listings on Ajio are coming to 5600-5800/g. Then where exactly is the saving? 🤔
Is the 5350/g spot price? While selling, final price = making charges (in %)x spot price * 3℅ (GST)
If op is from delhi ncr than i can help with the jewellery as i am myself in jewellery business but do keep in mind that as i work in small scale so can’t provide large items ready but can make as customized for you in a week’s time
@bohemian today I went to nearby Tanishq showroom to buy jewellery with Relaince coins bought from ajio but they are not exchanging with prevalent rate of 5300/g rather asking 3% deduction on this value.
