I have dell light laptop, and battery degraded in the first or second year. and when i want to use, the way battery drains within couple of hours, it almost feel like it was designed to keep always on charge like electric toothbrush and trimmer, and the battery was only meant to be used outside or where there's no plug available.

does anyone have any idea. how are we suppose to use laptop so the battery doesn't degrade faster and we can get more years from the laptop

Not a problem if you using your laptop always on charge but make sure to fully charge and discharge battery atleast once in a month to keep battery cells healthy. If most of the time using off the charger then keep battery percentage around 30-80%, don't charge over 80% and don't let it discharge below 30% frequently, otherwise it will degrade your battery capacity faster.

if possible always use direct power even if laptop. if your battery reaches 100% the machine doesn't use battery power and yes laptop batteries degrade over time. there are various ways to increase the battery performance but you laptop will be slower than usual. hope it helps.

I think batteries lose capacity over time regardless of how they are used.

  1. Heat is a major enemy. If you leave your laptop plugged in and it's running heavy tasks, the heat accelerates battery wear.
  2. Full charge cycles (charging to 100% and draining to 0%) put stress on the battery, leading to faster degradation.
  3. High charge states (80-100%) and deep discharges (under 20%) strain the battery.

So yes I think it's not whether to keep the laptop always on charge or not. It's more about when to unplug the charging or plug it in...
