How do you decide if the offer price in the sec market is lower? I find that most of the offers (any series) are on the higher side compared to the day's gold price. Note that we get a discount of Rs.50 in the primary sale.

If you want to invest for long term (8 yr lock in period) SGB is the best option for gold. Experts suggest 10% of your portfolio should be in gold.

Price decided from ibjarates.com (999 purity).

I bought 20g just in December so avoiding this one. You can expect  at least 12-13% of tax free returns in the long run easily. Its a good way to diversify.

If someone wants to exit before that can be done via secondary? Is this a good option to invest?

Yes if you buy it demat format, you sell it anytime after it's your demat account.

But it's not a guarantee that you will be able to sell it at the price you want.
