If long term means 6+ years, then avoid bending phones, under that should be fine
with the current trend of software updates, I don't think a phone will perform at its best after 2-3yrs max as either the software would advance or manufacturers will screw the phone via software updates so that people move on to get the latest device..
earlier we were demanding more years of Android and security updates and now premium phones offer at least 4 OS and 5yrs of security updates but after one OS update itself the phone doesn't perform to its peak when it was purchased..
plus with the foldables, we have this hardware constraint as well so long-term expectancy should not be more than 3yrs (assuming battery doesn't worn out in 2-3yrs)
so spending close to a lakh for max 3-4yrs of long term usage is not that great if your friend is going for the latest flip from Sammy or he can spend half of it and get last year Moto Razr Ultra or Samsung Flip when it goes below 45-50k during sale and have it for 2-3yrs
The question is how long is 'long time' for your friend. A lot of people in the premium segment dont keep their phones for too long. They will be tempted to exchange it for the next big thing within a couple of years - and if he can afford the phone there should be no crease/flip issues in this period of time
fold and fold 4 users. both phones had problems by 11 months and this is repair cost if you dont have accidental warranty
