Rooftop solar: has anyone installed it? What panels, inverters?

503°
Deal Cadet
jingalala

Starting this discussion to understand about the various components like panels, inverters, cables, distribution boxes etc, in terms of their quality & price.

Focus is on a grid tie setup because govt provides subsidy of upto 78000 for 3kw system. People can also go with a hybrid or offgrid system depending on their choices (but without subsidy).

Also, mention about the installer, location and the costing details if you have installed one.

Non subsidy plant

3 kw non dcr solar panel = 39000

3kw Ongrid inverter 16000

DCDB,ACDB,LA, EARTHINGS,CABLE, STRUCTURE=14000

Netmeter 1500

Netmetering expense 2000-3000

Total 73000 rupees without subsidy

Savings 400-450 units per month lower in winters and cloudy days

Subsidy plant

For subsidy plant approved EPC may charge you as per his wish mostly they charge 180000 for 3 kw plant, (and many EPCs charge upto 2 to 2.5 lakh for the same)  considering plant cost 180,000 and 78000 subsidy net cost comes around 102000

I recommend using DCR panels without claiming subsidy to support indigenous solar manufacturers

@drupal how to get non-subsidy ongrid setup installed & commissioned? The discom approved vendor/EPC will ask us to buy stuff from him, at his inflated prices. They are quoting 2.5L for a 3kva setup

It's very easy

EPC intervention is not needed in case of non subsidy plant

Installation can be done by any local iron structure installing expert or welder as per your wish iron structure is cheap GI structure is easy to install and takes less time

You can yourself apply online+offline for netmetering, download application  form and netmetering agreement (to be printed on stamp paper) from respective electricity regulatory commission website

buy a netmeter and get it tested and installed by discom

No need to take help of any EPC if it's non subsidy plant

For full help pay some fees to me and I will help you to get your netmetering done with all step

Pmsurya is full scam .

As only ongrid system is eligible for subsidy and vendors provides 3rd class panels .

It's better to install hybrid or off-grid solar system is good as compared to ongrid.

If you want 1kw offgrid plant i suggest you to buy 24 volat 400*2=810 watt waree solar panel from Flipkart or Amazon

Cost will be around 12000 and if you have existing inverter buy an MPPT SMU at Around 5k and convert your existing inverter into solar inverter

800 watt off-grid plant is ready in 17000 rupees no grid will be needed for batti pankha tv laptop etc

for rural areas this is best small set-up

Will keep in mind all this.

And please suggest things for 2kw plant also .

Monthly consumption in summers is 200-250 units.

And I have luminous inverter.

Don't have any battery.

So please advice accordingly.

Thanx in advance.

Subsidy - consider you are not going to get it esp State ones. Had seen tons of persons installing these and not getting a penny. Ofcourse you will gonna get less bills.

And do you know if the main electricity is down - those solar are useless and you will still need to rely on other inverter with 1/2 batteries.

No backup plans:

Get a hybrid inverter if not have like Exide Solar Hybrid with 1 battery (12V)

Get 2 (atmost 3) solar panels of around 180/200 watts. Luminous/Waree/Loom Solar. I got Zunsolar mono from Flipkart 5K each

Even running in non hybrid mode - they will still charge your batteries during power cuts. (why non hybrid mode - want to save batteries or increase their life)

And with this setup. Add some wires etc you will be spending max of 11K + 5K (if inverter not available)

What you got: 1 FAN (2 Fan if BDLC) plus your laptop/mini pc and some lights.

I bought these during an extended power cut of around 5+ days and i never need to worry about laptop shut down during work form home. Bought these in 2021 (corona time)

If there is insurance get it. One of my neighbours grid flew during cyclone and one of the panel hit a parked car.

Finance Mentor Finance Mentor

Roof Ground (non height)  mounted solar plants are also an option in such cyclonic areas as they are less affected and installation is also cheaper and sturdy, I seen in a video where in a high rise structure installer not used any fastner to tighten solar panel into roof rather used only cement cakes and panels flew with structure one should beware of such frauds

Non subsidy hybrid plant

3 kw non dcr solar panel = 39000

3 kw Hybrid inverter 40000

4 batteries 150 AH 40000

DCDB,ACDB,LA, EARTHINGS,CABLE, STRUCTURE=14000

Netmeter 1500

Netmetering expense 2000-3000

Total 137500 rupees without subsidy

Power Savings may vary as per power backup charging and drainage

I recommended 3kw plant as it would be beneficial and cheaper for you and will be able to push maximum energy possible to grid in whatever grid hours available during sunshine

Please keep in mind these 4x 150 ah batteries can store max 6 units in them if they are fully drained if they are half charged they can take only 3 units only from solar or grid in case of excess solar energy production with batteries fully charged and less load during power outage energy will still be wasted hence keep in mind these calculations, hybrid system storage limitations and energy losses during ac to DC and DC to AC conversions

How to permanently switch to Solar electricity?

Assuming minimum of 400~450 units per month.

Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

TIA

If you have grid connectivity and less power outage you can get rid of your bills using ongrid plant very cheap and minimal to no maintenance

But if you go off-grid you have to keep  paying large sum after every few years replacing batteries which will nullify its benefits in simple words

Off-grid plant = no free electricity (battery replacement after few years becomes very hectic and expensive task)

@drupal 800 watt off-grid plant is ready in 17000 rupees ?

Bhai installation, mounting cost, wire cost etc kon batayega ? Iska kitna lagega woh bhi batao.

Total batao kitna lagega, agar normal inverter and 1 battery system already ghar me hai toh.

Buy this high efficiency mppt controller 4600 rupees use other tricks get even cheaper

https://www.amazon.in/UTL-24V-Automatic-Charge-...

It will convert your normal 12v/24v inverter into solar inverter

Buy 6sqmm Aluminium cable 20*10= 200 rupees

You can also buy expensive copper cable as per your wish 800-1000 rupees

Installation is not rocket science you can do yourself

Make a ms mounting stand through local welder install it using fastener in roof 1000-1500 rupees for 2 panels

Or put them on roof ground for free

Got it installed at 1.80 Lakh before subsidy for 3KW system. A bit expensive, i would say. Panel: Loom Solar Inverter: UTL.

Generate on average 15 KW per day. Shoot your question if any

Finance Mentor Finance Mentor
Link Copied

UTL inverter has easiest zero export facility during emergency and longer power cuts you can use this feature to utilise solar energy by giving refrence voltage through your battery inverter and your gti inverter will on during suntime

All you need to buy a clamp CT available in market at around 1200-1300 rupees

@M.MAHI

Hybrid Solar plant is always better than off-grid

Reasons

1.You get subsidy on hybrid solar plant and no subsidy applicable on off-grid plant

2.Excess energy can be fed back to grid which can be utilised later in hybrid system while in off-grid there is no other provision to store excess energy except into limited capacity batteries

3.in off-grid plant  batteries has limited capacity to store units in case of fully charged batteries and less load extra produced units go waste

4.Hybrid plant is a little bit costly than off-grid plant but subsidy compensates that extra money spent
