[Review] Yatra.com Hotel bookings

I happened to book a Hotel for my friend who was coming to Mumbai. I tried finding a Hotel on various websites and zeroed upon one listed on yatra.com . same hotel was listed elsewhere too but it being listed gave me a sense of security about it. Though I must mention other websites were offering a fabulous discount on such bookings. But this sense of security prevailed over me and I booked through Yatra.com even I had to pay a premium(as compared to other websites)

Today was the date when the guest had to check in. My wife and she reached the hotel and was horrified to see the location filled with dirt and garbage. So much almost petrified she was that she returned back to the station(which in most cases is also filthy but you can imagine how much dirtier the hotel would have been given the choice she made) . My wife who accompanied her called me up and told me about it. I was literally shocked that how could a slum hotel be listed on such a reputed website? And If at all it is listed then why isn’t there any indication regarding that?
I checked the pictures of the hotel before booking and looking at those pictures no one can even imagine it is so shoddy from the outside(one thing I do notice now that no outdoor pics were there should have ringed bells then and there)

One can not even Imagine by looking at the picture mentioned above that hotel is in such a shabby place like slums.

I contacted customer care and narrated them the concern.
They have asked me to wait till their area manager comes that is around 10:00 (date today 31/08/201) today before providing me a solution.
I am at loss to understand what solution do they plan to provide?
I am at loss of reputation due to this mistake of relying on yatra.com blindly.
How in the world can anyone provide a solution for that?
Will wait and listen to the solution they have to offer me and update it here accordingly.

But this episode has taught me lesson to avoid booking hotels through such portals.
Reason being.

The portals offer you nothing different from what one can get from browsing through directories even just dial would provide a list of hotels and you can book on them even without paying anything in advance.
you will be taking as much risk as booking by using a directory infact higher as you have already paid to the portal in advance which in case of booking through directory would have costed lesser.

You do not know about the hotel just like while booking through phone you do not have a clear picture about the services you are going to receive on your booking.

There is no quality check in listing of hotels so just because it is listed on a reputed(farce as i think over it now) Do not believe it will be of any quality.

I hope this review will be helpful for people who rely for booking hotels through travel portals.

I have told customer care representative regarding the same and I have requested them to make amendments such as delisting hotels like the one I mentioned and having atleast a certain quality check before listing the hotels.
Hope this will help them to improve and customers like me to get a better service if at all (I decide to transact again with yatra.com)
