thereafter i simply tried the manual edits for filter subscriptions

I tried it and it worked, although i do not know for sure if the flash ads (or whatever those Google Ads are) stopped by this method.
sadly, since a few months now even on Desidime those ads are unstoppable. unsure if it is to do with a foxy new site update or
changes due to new ownership of AdBloc http://www.slate.com/blogs/moneybox/2015/09/24/... which resulted in some policy changes and new revenue model.
