Pushbullet Help, SMS Snyc app.

I installed the pushbullet app, it is asking for these 4 permissions for syncing messages.

  • Call loga
  • Contacts
  • Phone
  • SMS

I don't really have much problem in sharing these 4 permissions. The only issue is, I don't want to be able to send messages through their online interface. I want to be able to only see the messages there. But right now, I tried and I am able to even send messages through my pc.

If someday, the pushbullet / google account gets hacked then someone can easily screw me as they will be able to send messages through my number. A lot of things can be done with bank accounts and other services by just being able to send messages. Even SIM swapping is a possibility

Is there any way to make it just see / read only.

I don't believe there is an option to only sync SMSes but not send them from desktop. Just enable 2FA on your Google account via an app (Google Authenticator), review your recovery phone numbers and emails. It is 99% more secure that simply using a password. Tech websites and social media generate a lot of fear around SIM swap but especially in India it is far more difficult to do that. Firstly, your SIM will go offline for hours. Secondly, sending/receiving SMS will be enabled only after 24 hrs or so.Thirdly, this requires next level of expertise and only if you are really rich (say top 1% amongst all Indians) you are likely to be a target.
