Product quality has been degraded?

Used lenovo thinkpad X201T for 13 years and sold 6 months ago as I was not able to find its battery.
Not a single problem in 13 years.
Bought ASUS three years ago. Battery dying, body cracks, hinge openings, BIOS corrupted one time.
Even in other electronics i feel there is no quality left compared to what we used to get 10 years ago.

Earlier companies uses to make durable products. Now in this cut throat competition such products are very hard to sell.

And, companies can sell more products by not maintaining such quality 🙄 😑

Fast change in technology is also a factor playing important role here.

Planned obsolescence is the term used to describe what you are facing.

Somehow everyone is facing same early or lately but nobody takes stand for it, nobody supports you when you raise your voice.

Teams/members of company despite being users of similar products hide unethical conduct of company without hesitation.

At times these manufacturers drive the market and most of the time they are driven by the market. Cost is the biggest consideration for masses and to meet the cost, manufacturers will cut corners. Also there are norms around usage of 'recycled' or 'eco-friendly' material etc which apparently does not hold up as it ages. And the mindset of 'upgrading' to latest instead of using until 'broken', ensures lot of constraints, eg. availability of spares, which pushes one to buy a new product.

Look at the thickness of laptops. Its marketed as a feature!! Do we understand the impact of such design?

Having said that, there are still 'quality' products available out there but they will be at a cost.

@1_DAY_U_MAY - By the way how much you paid for Lenovo back in the day and how much did you pay Asus 3 years back?

All thanks to Indian cheap mentality , placing cheapness & quantity over quality

Also we are paid low and taxed more. Cost of living is hitting roof so have to make compromise in product quality because of budget.

Yes. The subject of quality product is dead. I mean they really don't exist anymore. I still cling to my beliefs from decades ago and keep buying the most expensive product up to my affordability, but I have been mostly disappointed. They all stop working after a while. Therefore, it's only practical to just buy a cheapo sh!t and go along with the typical indian mindset of use and throw or quantity over quality. This mindset is the root cause of this problem to start with. It's disgusting AF, but like i said, it seems to be more practical nowadays.

This thing too serious, I mean I honestly lose sleep over it.

No its not the same , other countries have govt in place who will bamboo the companies , for example european commission forced apple to bring USB 3 , and microsoft too of something , also giants like google paid compensation for data theft

there food safety rejected mangoes from india of export quality over pesticide

singapore food safety raised banned over MDH masala over presence of chemical

developed nation take safety and rule safety ,its not like u buy some official or govt there

you can not even imagine such thing in india with even local shop keeper

From Consumer electronics to IT products lifespan have almost halved to 1/4 th of  1990's, 2000's due to product becoming cheap and companies compromising on quality manufcaturing like previously

Earlier AC will last up to easily 7-10 years  now is reduced to 1-2 years  and gas starts leaking and others issue , same with televisions , mobiles  and other components

I brought lenovo laptop and after a week its camera stopped working. On call customer service tech forced me to format. Wasted a day in backup and formatting and noting happened. Upon my next call a guy came and opened my laptop and changed its camera wire and told me it need a windows format again that i can do again by taking backup. After 2nd format it remained same. Called again customer service and a new guy came and opened laptop 2nd time and told me that its camera sensor is faulty that he dont have. Later after 15 days a guy came and opened my new laptop 4th time and changed the camera.

Meanwhile i wasted hours in calling mailing to escalate my issue. I hate lenovo.

For the larger audience, I still believe that

  • A good PC still costs Rs. 1L which was the case decades back
  • A good laptop still costs Rs. 1L which was the case a decade back

Price has not changed, if you think things, especially PC/Laptop/TV/Phones/Gadgets etc are cheaper now, they are cheaper at the cost of quality!!

No hard feelings.

Sorry but I can't agree. I have seen laptops worth 1L even becoming useless after a few years(4-5), even if it is handled by a careful person. I believe companies have stopped making durable products.

If quality, reliability & durability are so critical to you, purchase a business laptop:

https://www.hp.com/in-en/shop/business-l...ps

This is because business laptops are bundled with 3/4/5 year on-site repair/replacement warranties. Therefore, manufacturers will ensure fewer compromises, to minimize their financial liabilities

the reason i go with desktops and workstations, you get quality hardware but no portability. Although the laptop quality is degraded especially with soldered gddr memory i always try to find a laptop wich doesn't have soldered gddr memory, doesn't have cheap quality hinges, doesn't have less than 30Whr battery, have scissors keyboard instead of membrane chiklet, have easy to open chassis so i can repair if needed. Lenovo ThinkPad is still a solid choice also the acer travelmate is quite good too but you cant be 100 percent sure about this.
