Dear Customer,
At Jio, your safety and digital experience are our top priorities. We are reaching out to inform you about a growing scam that has been targeting mobile users across India – the Premium Rate Service Scam. This scam involves missed calls from international numbers, and we want to help you understand how it works and how to protect yourself.
What is the Premium Rate Service Scam?
This scam happens when you get a missed call from an unknown international number. Out of curiosity, you call back, only to connect to a premium-rate service. The charges for calling these international numbers are usually very high.
How Does the Scam Work?
Missed Call from an International Number: Scammers use unfamiliar international numbers to initiate the scam. You might receive a brief missed call from one of these numbers.
Returning the Call: If you return the call, you will be connected to a premium-rate service, which may incur hefty charges even for a short conversation.
How to Recognize the Scam
Missed Calls from Unfamiliar International Numbers: If you notice a missed call from an international number with an unfamiliar country code, it’s best not to return the call. Scammers often use international numbers to make it harder for you to recognize the scam.
How to Protect Yourself
Here are some simple steps to keep you safe:
Identify International Numbers: Any incoming call from a number starting with a country code other than "+91" is an international call. Avoid calling back unknown international numbers to prevent unnecessary charges.
Block Suspicious Numbers: If you receive a missed call from a suspicious international number, block it immediately to prevent future attempts by scammers.
Be Cautious of Unsolicited Calls: Always be cautious when receiving unsolicited calls, whether from unknown international or local numbers. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
Educate Yourself and Others: Share this information with your friends, family, and colleagues. The more people are aware, the less likely the scam will succeed.
At Jio, we are committed to keeping your experience secure. Stay safe, stay informed, and protect yourself from scams.
Warm regards,
Team Jio

We should not receive international calls unless we are familiar with the number like friends and family.
