RuPay should just work with GPay so RuPay debit cards and credit cards can be added/tokenized like Visa/MC in GPay for tap-to-pay. These fancy products are not required when you have your phone with you at all times

Very few selected phones have NFC and very few banks card supported on Gpay.
For example - PNB Visa/mastercard and IDFC first bank Visa/mastercrad is not supported on GPay.
It won't matter if RuPay launches in GPay for tap-to-pay unless the bank supports it.

Kind of old news for me.
I do have Rupay Platinum debit card at PNB .
But City Union Bank (CUB) has a keychain debit card (contactless) . it used to cost .so I did not apply. I do have Rupay Platinum physical debit card at CUB also . (all for amazon milking 😌) Then CUB gave it to me as a FREE gift. I did not link to my sb account and using as a ordinary key chain. I use only credit cards over the counter (or phone pe UPI with Rupay CC's )and use Rupay Platinum debit
cards mostly online at Amazon or at Swiggy etc (recently used Bob rupay platinum Rs 100 off on 399 or so & DBS Rupay platinum Rs 100 off on 599 order value )
Note : yesterday I walked to near by Axis, Federal and Union bank home branches and surrendered 3 Visa debit cards (not platinum ) . next on the chopping block IDFC & CSB rupay platinum debit cards (catholic syrian bank ) .Au Platinum visa is Free. we will get to know amazon's plans for rupay platinum offers by march last week.

CUB key chain has to be platinum variant as my debit card is platinum only. I have thrown away all papers that came with the card . later I will check CUB app. since I did not register and link to my sb , may not show as active Key chain debit. so I wont know . iam using it like a table weight (in a sense) flat duplicate key in key chain.
