A man in Bihar's Khagaria district received Rs 5.5 lakh in his account by a bank error, but refused to return the amount, claiming the money "was sent by Prime Minister Narendra Modi". The Gramin Bank in Khagaria had mistakenly sent the money to Ranjit Das, a native of Bakhtiyarpur village under Mansi police station, and despite several notices, Das refused to return the amount, saying he had spent it. "I was very happy when I received the money in March this year. I thought as Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised every one of depositing Rs 15 lakh in their bank account,I thought that it could be the first installment of it. I have spent all the money. Now, I did not have money in my bank account," Das, who has been arrested, said in a statement to police. Mansi Station House Officer Deepak Kumar said: "We have arrested Ranjit Das on the complaint given by the manager of the bank. Further investigation is on."

True. Banks always say transaction cannot be reversed and so n so things usually. Now that the mistake is of who initiated the transaction probably bank employe in this case should be held responsible for this. The person who has recieved the amount is within his rights and ethics to return it if he wishes to.If there is any law that says he should return it then only he can have a case against him(reciever). Anyone has idea about if there is anylaw for this do share info on it

I think he will be jailed now for spending this money .
Coz
According to the Penal Code, the retention or use of monies transferred erroneously, where the receiver has been informed of the wrongful transaction, is an offence that can attract a jail sentence, a fine, or both.

Is this rule applies only for wrong transaction done by bank executive or even if it’s between 2 persons (can we file a complaint against other person if he won’t return the money for the wrong transaction) ?

Banking system is getting weird sometimes back I issued a cheque of Rs.20000 to someone. Bank only transferred Rs.2000 to his account after 10 days they sent me a message that Rs.18000 has been kept on hold then after 2 more days they transferred Rs.18000 to his account. They never called me or informed me properly what went wrong with transaction.

Money will be recovered from the Bihar man. Departmental proceedings will happen against the concerned official. If bank does not recover the money, the money might be recovered from the official. It happens in the cash counter as well. Newbies shell out at least 500₹ couple of time while being behind cash counter. It’s not a joke.

In the first incident, Ranjit Das, a native of Bakhtiyarpur village under the Mansi police station, received the money in his account due to some technical error. Once the bank detected it, he was sent as many as six notices to return the money, but he refused.

Pretending to be buddhu, turning blind to obvious facts and then arguing makes the man spend days in jail...

All people by now have known about the fraud and shitty promise about that 15 lakh... And yes, I have heard, seen and do believe that if big things somehow go to undeserving people, they kind of "massacre" it, cannot control themselves - "bhog, bhog and bhog..." Ab jail mein khaa sasure-15lakh ka bhog, aur kal haagna sone ki biscuit... 😈
